When SDA commenter Plainzfyre posted tonight’s video in the tips about a month ago, a fellow commenter — can’t remember who it was, sorry! — pointed out that the original version of this popular country music toe-tapper was in fact Australian, which might explain why it sounds so right with all those funny town names (“Birdsville, Emmaville, Wallaville, Cunnamulla…”).
Here are Australia’s bouncy Clabburn sisters, aka The Sunny Cowgirls, singing a sunny-side-up cover of the Aussie original I’ve Been Everywhere.
The comments are open, as always, for your Reader Tips.

EBD: Re: I’ve Been Everywhere. Thanks!! I’ve been to Australia, trust me when I tell you that it’s fabulous place!!
Of course I haven’t been everywhere man, but I’m working on it.
On my first trip, one of the places I visited was Bendigo, once a gold mining area. Temp was 42°C, we had rented a new Ford similar to the US Focus, however rear drive. It took everything for the air conditioner to keep up. At one of the abandoned mines, there was an old prospector who was running a museum, he had everything in a corrugated tin shed. Inside temp was 48C.
In the North, near Cairns, I experienced 38°C with 90% relative humidity. You can stand in the rain, it’s like taking a warm shower. Great place!!
The USA:
Allies no longer trust it.
Rivals no longer fear it.

Judge clearing way for niqab wearing woman to take citizenship oath is the top story in La Presse and the Journal de Montreal. It’s amazing how much legs (facetime?) this issue has and we haven’t even seen pictures of this woman taking the oath or voting yet. The gift that goes on giving.
I’ve worked there twice.im not so keen

Unexpectedly! Zerohedge reporting:
World’s Largest Sovereign Wealth Fund Is Forced To Begin Liquidating Assets
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-10-05/worlds-largest-sovereign-wealth-fund-forced-begin-liquidating-assets
Excerpt: According to Bloomberg, Norway could as soon as next year start making withdrawals from its massive $830 billion sovereign wealth fund, which is a nest egg for “future generations.”
The start of asset sales marks a historic shift for said “nest egg” which was not supposed to be tapped for many more years. Unfortunately for Norway, which has already spent recent years using a growing chunk of its oil revenue to plug deficits while at the same time building the wealth fund…
As Bloomberg calculates, taxes collected on petroleum extraction reached 138 billion kroner in the first three quarters of the year, down over 40% from 238.2 billion kroner in the same period a year earlier, according to Statistics Norway. But while oil-linked revenues are plunging, spending is going nowhere but up:
The government said in May its non-oil budget deficit, or spending in real terms, would be a record 180.9 billion kroner ($21.6 billion). With its crude output waning and prices falling, the government saw petroleum income dropping to 251.6 billion kroner this year, almost 30 percent lower than its October projections. Those estimates assumed oil at about $69 a barrel.
I thought that Norway was the smart way to run a petro-economy (according to the opposition and media parties). If only they had diversified and expanded their trade to 75% of the world’s economy via free trade agreements. How lucky would we be in Canada if we had a governing party that was so smart. Wait a minute…
Norway looked good because they didn’t have 33 million suckling at the petroteat
I’ve been trying to figure out how many candidates and from which parties we have had preelection resignations from

Article in today’s Belfast Telegraph re the Prime Minister’s stand on the burka. Would it have been better to not mention this until after the election, do you think?
Ex-Newfoundland and Labrador premier Danny Williams urged Conservatives not to vote for Mr Harper, who has made the Islamic face veil a focus of the October 19 election.
http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/news/world-news/
While driving home I was listening to former Liberal leadership candidate (twice!) Martha Hall-Findlay on some radio show discussing the new trade deal and explaining dairy/poultry/egg supply management.
Summary: deal very good, surprisingly large payments to dairy industry to compensate them for opening up less than 4% of their market to imports, supply mgmt is stupid and costs everyone, Mulcair is a hypocrite for supporting supply mgmt as resultant high prices hurt low income Canadians most.
Stunning that the Liberals picked the loser leaders that they have over her. She does sound more like a Conservative though–maybe that’s why.
Here she is talking about the same issue on BNN a couple days ago:
Danny was always a scoundrel, best known for practicing the nfld handshake a variation of the First Nations handshake , Palm up and slathered in cod oil
“Loser leaders”? They may take a lot of losing positions, but odds are that the latest Liberal leader will be in power in two weeks or so.
Not that I’m a fan of that.
The math is simple: unless the Conservatives win an outright majority, the NDP, Bloc, and the Greens have all pledged to topple Harper no matter what.
Even if the Conservatives win 168 seats, Trudeau will end up being prime minister as long as the totals of Liberal + NDP + Bloc + Green add up to 169.
So the stage may well be set for a rickety minority or coalition in which the Bloc or Greens (or both) use their leverage to hamstring Trudeau and compel him to enact their policies. Because another election would risk putting Harper (or someone like him) back in power, seeing as he’s the only remaining opposition.
Have you ever been to Cunnamulla, EBD?

Nore: This is one of many articles that has appeared on this topic today.
Let me get this right. I’m a fifth generation Canadian. I go to SGI to have my photo Id picture taken. I want to keep my eyeglasses on because like duuuh-hello Mr. photographer–I drive with these glasses on! He says NO. I apply for my passport, I go have my pic taken. I want to keep my eyeglasses on because when I get to the USA border, I will have my eyeglasses on if I drive there! He says NO!! So I comply. Both argue that photo IDs don’t allow glasses because they distort one’s identity!
Question: Could covering your face during a citizenship ceremony not change your identity somewhat?? Keeping in mind that the subject is not a Canadian citizen until the ceremony is over, therefore should have to reveal his or her identity when requested to do so?
As for the judges who rule against the majority of the pop. I believe it’s time that we started asking: ”Your honor–who’s side are you on anyway??”

I’m confident that PM Harper will throw an ace on the table at the last minute! He always has! I’m also confident that at the last minute, a lot of Canadians will see the light. Think Britain, think Cameron!

Many times. But I’ve never been to me.
Hope is not a strategy.
I really was seriously considering running for MP as a member of the Rhinoceros party. If there is a minority government that gets toppled right away and we have another election in a year or two, I might just do it. I relish the idea of seeing the faces of the Liberal and NDP candidates at the local debate on hearing that I would stimulate the economy by spending half my MP’s salary on “beer and popcorn” and “the massage parlour over on Dundas”, and asking the crowd if they remembered the big speech the incumbent Conservative MP gave in the house of commons…no…nobody? Or my plan to increase the funding of the CBC to one hundred trillion Zimbabwe dollars a year…

Ontario’s largest farm organization – the OFA – is unhappy that the expanded powers handed to the province’s Conservation Authorities are causing farmers grief.
And just in case you think that slashing the size and influence of the CAs might be a reasonable response, the OFA has a better solution: more funding for the smaller CAs, and agricultural representation on the CA boards.

Angry Tom will not submit to Boy Blunder as his DEAR Leader. Yes, they have all said ‘change’ and ‘take back Canada’ and ’10 lost years’, blah blah blah, but, those have all been their slogans, ON THEIR TERMS ONLY.
Contrary to media clips from some individuals, the typical Dipper hates Liberals, and vice versa. Co-operation between them? PSHAW
It is good to see such optimism, Plainszfyre. I think there is certainly hope — even for a majority, but I remain a real nervous Nelly about the outcome of the election. If there is to be an “Ace” thrown on the table, it may already have been thrown, and it is the niqab (and possibly related issues). Justin is promising to increase the family unification numbers, and Canadians were asked about this and seemed to agree that this would be a nice thing to do — but were they told that the family “reunification” under Justin includes parents and grandparents. I suspect not. And here is even more family: http://cnews.canoe.com/CNEWS/Canada/2008/02/08/4834833-sun.html
I think that most Canadians paying any attention to the issues arising related to immigration are not supportive of these measures. Looks like the niqab lady may get to vote — and I wonder if she is aware of the tsunami her vote may have precipitated. We will know on the 19th. Canadians are not bigots — and we are not patsies either.

Mainstream Research produces an IVR poll, on October 1, 2015, at the behest (and payment, to be sure) of Postmedia, which poll is 3-4 times larger than any other samples, and shows a Tory lead of 8 points.
And they sit on it for five days! And only obsequiously release it in the context of who should lead a coalition government.
Q: What’s that about?
A: Deliberate manipulation of information.
