Because we all know that being in a movie like “Barbarella” qualifies her as a chemical and environmental engineer. BTW, do they “drill” in the oil sands? Sorry for asking, but admitting ignorance is not a vice.
Even more pathetic than the Hollywood types who think they are “Experts” on anything other than reciting lines somebody else had the ability to write, are the masses who somehow listen to them as if celebrities had a greater understanding than their local plumber or hairdresser on, well, pretty much any topic. At least working people can actually DO something, rather than merely pretending to do something.
Did she even know what OPEC is?

She wouldn’t have had to leave home to protest heavy oil – lots in California. A couple decades ago, it outproduced Fort McMurray.

they do drill in the oil sands. but not in the ones they are up in arms about , other than evaluation holes that are used to map out and assay the sites. they are shallow holes that are just drilled and plugged, you cant leave steel in the ground for the bucket wheels to spark off of
the midrange oilsands are steam flooded ( as per the Nexen field)

Barbarella, made in 1968 (50 years ago). Visit to North Vietnam: 1972 (46 years ago). To millennials, this is ancient history. And none of them care about ancient history. Only people older than 60 remember her. (Well, maybe younger if they like old movies).
She’s an old women (77) struggling desperately to remain in the public eye long, long after her “best by” date. No longer pretty, no longer sexy, no longer relevant. (She never had a great intellect so I can’t say “no longer smart” and she was never a great actress so I can’t include that as a “no longer” either.)
She reminds me of one of the current U.S. presidential candidates, also well past her “best by” date and also struggling to remain relevant.
I rate Jane’s influence as a 1 …. on a 1 to 100 scale. No one cares what she thinks. Probably 90% of the crowd around her in the clip were her body guards and the press.
Oh, and her wealth is estimated at 120 million (much of it earned by way of divorce) so I’m pretty confident that she was not flying coach….. or even on a commercial airline for that matter. It’s all for the best though because on a private plane she can get her nap and her snoring won’t bother anyone.

I wonder how much the American oil companies paid Fonda to come to Canada?

Jane Fonda is so ignorant, and oblivious, she probably doesn’t know what OPEC means nor any of the members countries of OPEC.

The green theocracy needs a celebrity priestess every once in a while. It helps the morale of the common parishioners. Hypocrisy only maters to those who hold logic as of some importance.

Just by the way that Fonda responded to the question one can deduce that she had no friggin’ clue what OPEC meant or what the reporter was talking about. Not a clue. The so-called reporter that rushed to her aid was priceless. What could possibly motivate someone to act so stupidly? It’s quite obvious that Fonda has no concept of hypocrisy or irony and no amount of assistance from the media can hide the fact that she is nothing more than an ignorant old woman minding other people’s business.

Why would she take the time and fly in her private jet to protest the oil sands in Canada?
Certainly not because she’s concerned about the environment.
