Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Count yer blessings ‘an all that.
It’s fine for a woman who is happily married to a guy who doesn’t care about her looks.
But if 5 years from now we read that her husband dumped her for a 25 year old…?
Women who talk like this don’t HAVE to worry about what they look like (or think they don’t.)
She’s a character actress not a leading lady (or a TV host.)
But some women do have to worry because men (and women) are hardwired to judge women based on appearances.
I look like neither but I would rather look like Couric than McDormand. Sorry.
A friend of mine , a pharmacist ,used to mix cold cream with the active ingredient for preparation h ,whatever that is. Sold it as special wrinkle cream the babas loved
Seriously? You’d rather look like an obnoxious commercial realtor than an attractive woman? Why?
Katie needs BTOX for those stretch marks around her mouth!

Could have been worse. Could have been the Walter Duranty of women, BaBa WaWa doing the interview.
Honestly, are most women that insecure? Sorry about what happened to you, Kathy, but you are better of without the louse.

“…… men (and women) are hardwired to judge women based on appearances”
Maybe true to a degree, but I’m thinking most men eventually mature past that phase to find higher qualities in their spouses, aside from losers. What wrecks it for men is older crabby women that try and dominate a relationship as their flair for life dims.
I’d say more often than not it’s the “youthful attitudes” that attract older men, especially when they dote on the man. Attractiveness is the bonus. This works for both young and old women.
IMO.
Well said.
Aging? So what does it matter that what one spent all night doing now takes all night to do.
It could be that many spend way too much time looking on their reflections in that looking glass.
Those that don’t make it their life purpose and glean now and then into that mirror some times wonder who is it that’s looking back.
Look and put some minimal effort to find some fine points.
Depending on how critical is one of self, can say, Hey self you are looking fine for your age.
Not that you can do anything about that. You can mask it though the morning could be brutal awakening.
Anyway, the old age is what you make of it.
When you get to it, suck it up and be on your journey, you may find the life more breezy.
Heh, don’t know where this cam from, though here it is.
Favourite expression at the shop: The alternative to aging is not very appealing.
Visual vanity has existed likely as long as man has. Powdered wigs and face defined what class you belonged to at one time.
THE only difference between then and now is a much larger segment of society have more time and money to spend on it than in the past. IOW it is a sign of societal affluence that everyone looks so good.
Why would you want to look like a hack instead of someone who has demonstrated that she has talent?
Couric needs the Botox because being a hack is really all she has.
Knight 99 I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU.
She’s [Frances McDormand] a character actress not a leading lady…
‘Laurel Canyon’ proves that McDormand is a ‘leading’ lady
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOBzSFozkwY
Frances McDormand has never been an actress one admires for her classic female features, it’s her ability to radiate feminine sexuality, which is a real turn on. She’s my choice for the cover of ‘The Girl from Hateville’
And of course in Fargo McDormand was the very definition of a leading lady.
Kathy’s comment confirms my experience that most women have a pretty inaccurate idea of what men find attractive. I think this (mild) dysmorphic disorder has to do with the sheer volume of misleading “beauty” information out there. It’s easy to forget that female fashion models (for example) are used to sell merchandise to women, not men, so they’re chosen/screened to be attractive to women, not men.
The same (sorta) thing applies to putative female role models like Lady Gaga or Madonna. A lot of women think that Madonna is a sexy, strong, attractive woman — maybe because she’s brashly trying to make the case at every moment — but in my experience straight guys think she’s gross, bordering on repulsive.
Gay guys are very much attracted to her, probably because they want to be her.
An interesting point, EBD. I’ve never considered Madonna attractive and I’ve never known a man that did. I have known men (not that many) that thought she was interesting or likeable, and quite a few who respect her as an artist and businesswoman, but nobody who thinks she’s good-looking.
I’ve had occasion to reflect on matters of beauty recently, and the way I’ve put it to friends is: many women are born with gifts of natural beauty, sometimes very great gifts. Every such woman thereby gets a choice. She can be beautiful. Or she can be a worthwhile person, and do that beautifully. Men in general are much more likely to appreciate the second choice, while magazine editors and photographers are content with the first.
