Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I don’t know if anyone remembers, but back in the day when Greece applied for EU membership, there was a long list of criteria they had to meet, including economic bench marks. Come to learn after they were admitted, they had cooked the books and willfully misrepresented their fiscal situation. Oh well.
Greece is the North Korea of the EU. Let ’em go. It’s never going to get any better.
Hurry up already…..i wanna see this domino fall.
makes the green back not look so bad now does it?
I hear that Euros make lousy toilet paper, even.
I agree hairyhanded…the issue is if they go it could be a domino in the great euro union expierament. as well how will germany get its money back?
there are alot of questions and uncomfortable truths the will come to for. And i am a huge supporter of greece leaving and setting alight the powder keg.
It was Donald Trump that proved that the Banks will not foreclose when all the money is theirs. The “too big to fail” is a direct consequence. The EU will not foreclose on themselves, it’s all EU money in Greece…Germany would be the big loser
The fruits of socialism. Looks good on them for voting for commies. I just feel sorry for those who did not vote commie.
A greek tradigey in the making
I guess the Greeks won’t inherit the earth after all.
Ken (Kulak) >
Yup, Socialism and Open Borders have done the Greeks wonders. Now it’s our turn.
The Greeks are as stupid now and were smart 3000 years ago when they were the greatest minds on earth and to some extent not much has replaced much of what they came up with ….. However … that was then and this is now … they got stupid, went socialist and now bankrupt which is the destiny of all socialist regimes.
Capitalist regimes are also broke, but not because of the capitalist system, rather, because they allowed too much socialism into the capitalist system … and that is like mixing Arabs and Jews.
I would have gotten my money out of those Greek Banks .. like … duh … year ago!
Lined up like Turkeys on the day before thanksgiving … the Greek people are about to get stuffed.
The reporting on this issue sucks. The Greek government has run deficits every year since 1973. That’s over 40 years of continuous deficits. This is not a recent problem. The underground economy in Greece (no tax) is estimated to be 25% of GDP. Greece is the most corrupt country in the EU.
And all we get is “if the bank won’t open on Monday how do I pay my mortgage”. Do you actually have to go the bank in Greece and withdraw money in order to give that money back to the bank to pay your mortgage? They don’t have electronic withdraw services (bank to bank) there? You can’t transfer money using the Internet?
The only saving grace with this debacle is that Germany is paying for it. Although it’s entertaining listening to socialists blaming capitalists for the fall of socialism. If we only had more money…we could do great things…

“that was then and this is now … they got stupid”
Greeks didn’t get stupid, they got overrun.
Compare art and sculpture of the classical greeks to the demographic of today – They are NOT the same people.
Open Borders, liberalism and by extension socialism the products of hard earned conservative success destroys the society that founded it.
@bartinsky:”I guess the Greeks won’t inherit the earth after all.”
Ha ha, good one. Just the Meeks will inherit the earth. No, I take that back, ISIS will make short work out of the Meeks.
So the Socialists ran out of other people’e money. Never seen that before.
For the folks lining up at the ATMs it’s too late; the roof has already started to fall in. One of two consequences will happen. Either massive capital and currency controls will keep peoples’ money locked up in banks or they revert to the drachma which then devalues through the floor. This is the day the overdue credit card bill starts to come due.
Steve from Rockwood is right. This is NOT new. Since the mid-19th C, Greece has gone bankrupt at least three times. Since the revolution separating Greece from the Ottoman Empire Greece has never shown itself capable of managing its financial affairs.
No, Paul in Calgary, it won’t bring down the Euro. Greece is tiny, barely 1% of the Eurozone. It’s Spain, Italy or France that are capable of bringing down the Euro if they collapse. Greece is less than a pimple on an elephant’s behind.
They’ve been going broke for 3 or 4 years now. Never seems to happen.
Keep your eye on Greece from now until we go to the polls in October, it’ll serve as a reminder of what we’re in for if the NDP or Liberals are elected to power. Of course we need to hope people will get their brains in gear and inform themselves there are more problems beyond their own front door to consider.
Liberal/Librano Ontario is already headed down a slippery slope, can Alberta be far behind? Then, not to forget the attempt by Duceppe to raise the Bloc from the near dead in Quebec and make mischief for the ROC.
“… we need to hope people will get their brains in gear …”
Like Jesus said, “Go in through the narrow gate; for the gate that leads to destruction is wide and the road broad, and many travel it; but it is a narrow gate and a hard road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”
The people in Germany, when Mr. Hilter (see Monty Python) was working on his power take-over, completely lost their brains and brought him to power.
The people in the United States, when Mr. Ubah-mah was working on his power take-over, elected him TWICE.
I suspect that most Canadians will be sucker-punched by Mr. Trudeau or by Mr. Mulcair. Mr. Trudeau has nice hair after all and he makes kissee-kissee with women. Mr. Mulcair has a nice beard.
