Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Mr Trudeau, please let us know how it felt being raised by a loved Canadian icon like Pierre Elliot Trudeau?
Mr Harper, other than your radical Tea Party like love of large business and hate for science, what do you think will need to be cut that Canadian’s now enjoy?
Fair and balanced.
Good for them!
Screw CBC and CTV…they are just going to CONTINUE to trash Mr. Harper and the CPC regardless.
Macleans is a waste of space also.
I agree 100% with the headline.
Yep, the media shriekers will attempt to pull out all the apoplectic stops to primp and fluff for “True-Dope-ia 2.0” as if he is some boy wonder.
No wonder PM Harper doesn’t bother with the PPG dinners as there is nothing to be gained; and painting a bulls eye on your back when they already have their arrows drawn isn’t going to help your cause.
The media in general, with the odd exception, are too busy drinking the left’s used bathwater.

So the CBC wants to approve political ads? Getting a bit big for its boots, I’d say.
Yes!
I’m sure effin Lizzy May will have something to say on this given her affliction with Harper derangement syndrome. It was very evident in her lush mouthed diatribe she thought was comedy at the PPG dinner.
Remind me again why a government funded network has a political news bureau?
Pathetic liberal wanks thinks shaking hands will end all hostilities and make your enemies your freinds Just how how much stupid weed they have been smoking
I have never understood why CTV/CBC/Global had a monopoly on the debates. Why should they dictate anything? This isn’t 1970 where there are 3 channels and no internet. It’s interesting that the NDP are also out in front on this likely because Mulclair probably feels like he won’t get a fair shake with Trudeau there.
I am shocked a conservative didn’t line up like Charlie Brown for another kick at the Lucy held football.
How many generations of conservative schmucks has it been?
The problem with the CBC is the Regressive Conservative’s own fault. They should have cut CBC from the trough. They have no one to blame but themselves.
‘……..led by an experienced journalist-moderator with fewer interruptions: “Letting the conversation flow without all the stopwatch strictures of the consortium model,” said a source, who suggested Trudeau, “is not exactly an unaccomplished public performer.”‘
Heh, so part of the plan is to let Trudeau talk more.
Brilliant. 😀
Progresivists is just another word for Soclaists/Communists/Leftists/Liberal its just they use a different name
Well. well, well about time the Conservatives quit playing on an uneven field.
I well remember Lizzy effin’ May screeching and caterwalling, sticking her pudgedy fingers in Stephen Harpers face.
The CBC is being “punked” in Canada, in our cities, we are not allowed to make this up LOL
How much does Peter Mandsbridge make anyway?
The light bulbs go on! The Networks are past their best due date. The CBC has been rigging & rehearsing the debates for years… The stealth Camera angles ready to catch PMH if he
makes the slightest slip. Gotcha bagging
In the last debate CBC provided Liz May rehearsal training with Key word queuing of Camera shots to capture response. She thanked the CBC Moderator, at the end, for all the help & training.
I only hope the Republicans are smart enough to take the Hint & drop CNN,MSNBC, NBC & ABC debate participation in 2016. The CNN debate debacle in 2012 could not have happened without Republican betrayal. Yes I said Republican! It is too easy to stack the deck by both sides & the public is ultimately deceived.
Harper only needs to talk past the court eunuchs of the msm to get to swing voters. Everyone else is concrete bound either “conservative” or more statist. The Eunuchs just want more air time to cheer-lead for the Spawn or Mulcair.
Harper should encourage May to participate as she will draw the wackos away from the NDP and Liberals in greater proportion than the Conservatives.
The Media Party – nothing to do with Journalism folks.
When this story hit I was sure I had heard a loud bang from the direction of Toronto that sounded like head explosions
After the appause and cheers Elizabeth May received after her stupid/drunk/vulgar remarks at the Press Gallery dinner, why would any conservative government further indulge those clowns? And poor Lizzie was so sleep deprived after flying back from Victoria to get loaded on someone else’s dime – not to mention the $3000 tab for her (one way) flight Victoria-Ottawa.
Yes, it IS about time the Conservatives stopped playing into the hands of their enemies.
And Liz May’s embarrassing performance at the PPG affair is typical of any zealot who takes herself too seriously and essentially has no sense of humor.
The idea that the person is supposed to “poke light-hearted fun at herself and others”, is completely lost on this vicious, egotistical enviro-loonie.
To NO one’s surprise, at CBC comments most agree with what May said, disregarding completely her state of intoxication.
At all the main TV networks, it’s “hate Harper” 24/7.
Deft move by PM/Tories showing they have lots more surprises in store and a feeling of resignation is setting in amongst their foes, save the more shrill, delusional and hysterical elements.
The NDP seemed to take everything in stride, but the response so far from the Grits was this rather lame comment from their “senior advisor” Gerald Butts, who “lambasted the Conservative decision to skip the consortium debates via Twitter, noting Mr. Teneycke formerly headed up the right-wing Sun News. “What a joke. The Conservatives sent the head of Sun News to ‘negotiate’ this for themselves,” Mr. Butts said on Twitter. “This all shows how badly we need a truly independent governing body for debates, as they have in the US.”
Like the CBC for instance eh? Let’s harken back to their comments prior to 2008 debates, from their then Commissar Tony Burman who, commenting on Elizabeth May’s inclusion, “called the process “a sham” and called for an independent body to govern the debates(Wiki).” Sound familiar?
Butts comments were via Twitter, so like that makes him really cool, right? Might we expect more illuminating wisdom from Butts? Not really IMO. Meanwhile “the Globe and Mail is one of the organizations that is submitting a rival proposal this week to host a full leaders’ debate.”
Perhaps the CBC could have their very own debates with Elizabeth May standing in for PMSH. Here’s hoping the new consortium doesn’t let her anywhere near these debates. If you thought her latest rant was embarrassing, her 2008 debate “performance” was a train wreck which deprived voters of a chance to evaluate the other party leaders.
The debates should be moderated by Mark Steyn and Ezra Levant. Justy would cry for his mommy. Dizzy would have to knock back several cocktails to combat her sleep deprivation affliction.
You’re preaching to the choir about CBC bias. But unless they’ve got internal memos or something detailing how the debate was going to be staged as a hit job, the perception is that Harper is running away, and that’s not a good place to be.
Laughable if anyone believes the perception that Mr. Harper is running away.
Looks more like the Top Dog is scratching some annoying fleas.
It is going to be fun watching the MSM whine.
Anyone believe most people give a rat’s ass?
‘running away’ is not the feel i got – they’ve offered 5 other venues. They’re just not playing their game.
This move is an encouraging sign to me that the Conservative brain trust is alert and active. This forces the others to scrabble and adapt.
Seriously, who needs the BQ and Lizzy May getting equal time? It corrupts the whole idea.
I doubt PM Harper even needs a debate – he’s a known quantity. The only thing i’d miss is J.T. spontaneously decombusting on air – the chances of which diminish with a crowded field in witch he can hide.
I haven’t watched these ridiculous shams of debate staged by the consortium for several elections now. There’s just too much screeching, interruption, one trying to outshout the other, and media preening for them to even be dignified with the name debate.
I would watch a good one-on-one, say, Harper vs Mulcair, debating an issue on which they disagreed and offered different visions for the country. Such a debate on Canada’s position on the war against ISIS could be informative and even entertaining carried out by two worthy adversaries. I disagree completely with Mulcair’s position, but I have no doubt he would articulate it well and that Harper would rebut well. Above all, have just a single monitor to assure fair debate, but otherwise keep the media noses out of it entirely.
Not wanting to exclude Justine, of course, he could be given the opportunity to be sequentially demolished one-on-one against both Harper and Mulcair.
“And now it’s time for the CBC news headlines :
Steven Harper was seen channeling Hitler again as he ate a bowl of clubbed seal pups at a racist street celebration,
Rob Ford was seen at a local watering hole matching shooters with Lucifer, where the porcine tory was herd to say; “you toss a mean shot for such a nice guy”
And finally, the entire CPC caucus is responsible for the bad weather that snowed out the global warming celebrations in cottage country.
In sports Harper makes the Leafs lose again.
This article describes a bit of the workings of the “consortium”.

I have been saying for months that ponyboy must be thoroughly gelded before the debates, doesn’t matter where they may be held and by who.
Justin shows up and he has likely won. The media is very powerful in determining the winner. Many will believe the media ,especially if their message is broadcast continually from the end of the debate to voting day.
The boxing analogies are in the works. This election is vital to the survival of the CBC. I have no doubt that the questions will be leaked to Trudeau if the CBC has a hand in it. They have little to lose if caught. Who will talk about it, certainly not them, and certainly not their friends.
The Conservatives are right to be very wary.
‘Running away’ was the consensus amongst my own offline circle. These are people that unanimously despise Shiny Pony, and are unconvinced at best about Mulcair. As for Harper, we range from lukewarm to disgust. None of us has any particular party loyalty, and sit in the center to the right. I’d say we’re a sampling of reasonably ordinary Canadians. Take that as you will.
I know the CBC is in the tank. You know they’re in the tank. But so much of this story revolves around political minutia and inside baseball. Remember Kate’s Venn diagram a week or two back? The one that illustrates how 95% of politicians’ and the media’s lives overlap, while it only overlaps 5% with the general public? THAT’S what this story feels like. Of my aforementioned circle, only 2 of us are political junkies who would parse the nuances of this situation. The rest would tune out.
Don’t get caught up in an echo chamber, like the left.
I always thought Pamela Wallin was a Dipper.
In the 1988 debates, the three leaders debated in pairs. I’m sure I recall her (as moderator) asking Mulroney and Turner why anybody should vote for their somewhat ethically-challenged parties when there was a “clean alternative” available.
That was the year someone decided it would be a good idea to have a half-hour for wimmin’s issues. So the party leaders talked about whatever the hell they wanted while explaining to each other why it was a wimmin’s issue. It was at that point that I turned the TV off.
I am suspecting this is a trend originating from the US.
That Obama/Crowley, so obvious, planned, tag-team thing has poisoned the TV debate well for Republicans…..
