  1. It appears that the so-called left in Alberta has realized what the so-called Right hasn’t, that splitting 50% of the popular vote down the middle equals 25%. The NDP gains have mostly been at the expense of the Liberals and according to the last couple of polls, the WRP.
Premier Notley and her sophomoric caucus has a real perverse ring to it. Personally, I would like to the the PCs throw in the towel but that’s not going to happen. Glad I don’t own any real estate in Alberta.

  2. Well now this appears to be the trend. Too bad. Alberta’s loss appears to be Saskatchewan’s gain. I’ve always thought of southern Albert to be the place to relocate to if I ever did immigrate to the west. Not any more!
I’m wondering now, how many of those smug Albertans who took pride in their “conservative” values, and looked down on us Easterners who were getting swept by the liberal tide are now wondering if they themselves should relocate?
How does it feel, Albertans? You’ll soon find out what it’s like to go through what we are now going through here in the East.
    Enjoy!

  3. Looking at the trend there’s a left wing association going on while vote splitting is happening with the right wing. Liberal support is moving towards the NDP while the Wildrose and PC’s quibble over who’s gonna drive the bus.
This is what happens when the establishment ignores the citizens. Get ready ’cause the gold lay’n goose is about to get cooked…

  4. Well, it’s a little premature to predict anything at this point. However, if the NDP do win, I’d like to see a study done about how many tough Alberta range – riders sneaked off to see Brokeback Mountain. :)))

  5. Why would anybody vote for a closet statist party (PCs) when they can vote for the proud marxists?
Perhaps a few years wandering in the wilderness would teach the PCs some humility… Although, the intervening period would be horrendous.

  6. I believe it when it actually happens on election day. Remember how the NDP were in minority government territory just prior to the 2011 federal election? Last time in BC the NDP won every poll except the actual provincial election. The voter lately has been exhibiting a strong incumbent bias with voting intentions changing right up to election day. Wouldn’t the Alberta NDP be a disaster for oil, gas and resources? What is their position on pipelines, for instance? Sorry don’t really follow Alberta provincial politics.

  7. Prentice had better call Jean on election night and do an agreement for Prentice to stay in power despite losing the election – King/Byng II. Perhaps a new budget that slashes the deficit in half might work. We will be no worse having pissed off media screaming about the lack of democracy that we would handing the keys to the treasury to the Communists.

  8. Martin – I think what you said is in part true. But the most the NDP and the LIberals could muster last election was 9 seats. No where near the support required to move up the middle and win.
The new support they are receiving are coming from the progressives who voted for the Progressive Conservative party. And there are a lot of them. Remember they selected Reford as their leader last time and Stelmach before that.
They’re fleeing and running to the NDP.
Plus voters don’t trust Prentice and they see the Wildrose as being in disarray and not competent to run a government. So now voters are about to commit Albertacide.

  9. Just check out a Stamps/Riders game at McMahon if one wants to see the success of the Sask. NDPee. But on the other hand, Mosaic Stadium could use half in red to bring some contrast and the feeling of Christmas like it always is when the Riders come to McMahon.

“Glad I don’t own any real estate in Alberta”
Why not? There are some great buying opportunities coming up as Alberta fiiiiiiiinally gets to dump out the deadbeats that have beating a path here over the last decade.
Real estate and business opportunities at fire sale prices sounds great to me. The oil and gas can just sit in the ground for a while longer. We’ll get to it, but first things first.

  11. It may be wishful thinking but I foresee a PC majority in the Alberta election. Prentice ain’t no Ralph Klein but he’s certainly not your typical New Democrat either. The something-for-nothing crowd that typically elects NDP governments is, in my humble opinion, still a small minority in Alberta despite what the polls indicate.
I think we all agree that an NDP government would be an unmitigated disaster for the province. If Prentice starts leaning too far to the left, there is still enough common sense within the PC Party to get things back on the rails. As for the NDP … not so much. Common sense and voting NDP simply do not go hand in hand.
I simply cannot see any traditional PC supporters unhappy with the party switching their votes to the NDP. That would be analogous with a Hab fan starting to cheer for the Leafs simply because the Canadiens haven’t won the cup in a while.

    “How does it feel, Albertans?”
    Like it’s about time actually.
I’ve been ranting about cooling Alberta’s hot “growth” for ½ a decade on SDA.
Aside from dumping out the riffraff including all Stalmac/ Redfrauds third world “Temporary” Workers that they’ve flooded Alberta with, there will be some good deals on plenty of properties and other assets over the next few years.
If the NDP should actually win, it couldn’t come at a better time. They’ll decimate an already weak economy and the real Albertan’s still remaining will kick their behinds into the next century as far as an electable party on the next election.
They Oil & Gas is going nowhere, sooner or later it will be drilled, completed, and then extracted – those with some heads up will do very nicely when that day comes. Ya gotta love free markets and the entrepreneurial spirit of Alberta.

  13. Anyone who believes that the NDP will garner more than 19 to 22 seats has been smoking some really good stuff.

  14. How is it?
World knows that socialism is a dead end politics.
There are past examples and current, of how degenerate the politics of socialism are.
Everywhere socialism ruled, people ended up with nothing, except for the ruling class.
As the wise lady said, in socialism you WILL run out of other people’s money, guaranteed, it is certain, no doubt about it.
When you think about it, it is those that vote for socialists, to vote themselves free stuff that will eventually pay for the free stuff in high taxes, perhaps fooling themselves in ignorance.

  15. Albertans have heard how well Ontario is doing with the left of the NDP Wynne Liberals are doing.
    Welcome to the back water.

  16. we have been infiltrated for about 20 years by the eastern bums and creeps Ralph warned us about . just never thought they would bring their values with them .

  17. There is no teaching a PCer humility. After all they are just socialists that are not in a rush, so to speak. They just want to head down the road on a more or less leasurely (‘Liberal’) pace.

  18. So, if the NDP takes control and wants to implement all the safeguards to prevent global warming, as promised, who will support Ontario and Quebec whose economies are already in the garbage can due to the same policies ? How will Alberta get its share of transfer payments when they are the only economic driver left in the country and it crashes permanently ? Without gas and oil from Northern BC that province would also be a have not province, as BC depends entirely on interaction with Alberta to continue development. Tom Mulcair must be smiling as he seems to hate anything that might create a job or opportunity relating to fossil fuels. At least Gore,Suzuki ,the indians, treehuggers, Neil Young and the IPCC will be ecstatic with the notion of a NDP government. Watching a province commit suicide is a small price to insure longer, colder winters. Like Ontario, the people of Alberta will get what they vote for. Good and hard.

  19. Cal 2 – recall the Florida example? Florida used to be solid Republican but the voters fleeing high taxes courtesy of a succession of Democrat governments, both state and local, in New York and thereabouts escaped to Florida but continue to vote Democrat. Dems/Libs are extremely ‘intelligence challenged’ folks.
Closer to home, I urge my friends and family at every opportunity to go to lloydminster and just drive thru. The Saskatchewan side is quaint. Minimal construction, some small projects started since the Sask Party came into power, but the Alberta side has almost expanded out to Blackfoot. The contrast is absolutely stunning! Why? A long period of NDP governments stifling construction on the Sask. side while the formerly Conservative (minimally ‘Progressive’ until recent times) and business friendly governments in Alberta have encouraged businesses to expand – to create jobs and wealth for all. Yes, people made money – and they spent it raising their families and providing other jobs for many other people.
My wife and I moved to Alberta when Alberta and Saskatchewan were roughly the same in population, Alberta just around a million and Sask somewhere under a million. Only in the past few years has Sask surpassed the million mark whereas Alberta is somewhere under four million – another stunning contrast. I hope and pray that Albertans do not wake up to the Saskatchewan nightmare next Wednesday AM.

  20. The “progressive” mindset is bent. It is incapable of discriminatory thinking (I think they outlawed it in the 60’s), so nothing is better than anything else and everything must be “equal.” Of course, their definition of equality is twisted. And, since they have no moral compass, stealing from those who “have” is perfectly acceptable. Their favourite argument is the “fair share” bullsh*t. Dippers and all other socialists use it frequently.
I would encourage voters to vote on the basis of a party’s or candidate’s VALUES rather than “issues” put forward during elections. The issues simply obfuscate the truth and bait voters. If, for example, one were to assess a party or candidate based on values, they would find that progressives and socialists have little or no use for personal responsibility, morality, ethics, loyalty, religion or the family.
Their singular value is “fairness”. Think about it in those terms and it is not surprising why Liberal policies blatantly trash all of the above values and the Libertarian ideals that respect them.

  21. This Alberta election may have ramifications for the next Federal election. The worst outcome would be a slim NDP minority in Alberta. If neither PC or WR support them we might see a coalition PC-WR government which would set a horrible precedent for the Federal election. Imagine the same scenario with a Lib-NDP coalition giving us (gag) PM Trudeau with Finance Minister Mulclair (yikes) and Minister of the Environment Elizabeth May (God help us all). Be afraid folks, be very afraid.

  22. no time to sell the house .
expect a free fall soon on both Canadian oil stocks and Alberta Real estate .
even Jim Apprentice hasn’t sounded all the alarms .
actually its just pointing out how deep the rot was ,and all self induced.
    that’s a right kerfuffle Andy , — Little Britain .
I have a son that is dipper , i think he was dropped on his head years ago.

  23. CRB, I have said the same thing for years, throngs of good people from Sask moved here for jobs comming from no job prospects under the NDPee, but along with them came the Ontario malcontents, the ones that are to stupid to remember why they moved to Alberta but they sure want their beloved Libby/NDPee politicians installed. Like the afternoon moron on QR77, he comes here from Toronto and hates everything about our success, when I asked QR’s boss John Voss “what is the end game with your stations Toronto Star hosts constantly hating our Alberta’s success”, he said, “I never thought about that”. I told him his stations constant attack on Prentice would bring about an NDPee government and did he think there would be more listeners to his sorry station if people started leaving Alberta. No answer to that. The media are utter morons. There has never been an NDPee government that did one ounce of good for their province. Albertans are above gutter snipes like QR’s hosts and the rest of our loser news parrots

  24. Why the shots at Albertans? You seem gleeful that we too are about to be progrified.
Keep in mind that when Western cash isn’t there to pay your bills your life won’t be any easier.
By the way there are no Canadian’s more smug than those from the progressive centre of the universe. Smug, and jealous too.
The other thing to remember is that Wild Rose was leading in the polls prior to the last fiasco of an election. If the Wild Rose were brave enough they could dredge up the bad memories from the National Energy Program (NEP) and pin in on progressive types.

  25. we get impressed with the Alberta growth , but did you know that Texas increased its population by 15 million during the same period. about the same oil production as Alberta , same area , lower reserves . but mostly freehold so not so much gubmint

  26. Federal ramifications – maybe.
If one is already Prime Minister/Premier they do not have to resign until the legislature/Parliament meets and votes them out. I suspect the Governor-General would then call a new election. I am not sure what the Lieutenant-Governor of Alberta would do. He might ask the opposition to form a government.

  27. I don’t believe any of it. Polls have skewed dramatically left for some time now (to what end can be debated) Don’t forget, Liberals were reported as being up by as much as 29 points in the days leading to the Brandon-Souris by-election in 2013 and yet, the conservative won.
And in the last BC provincial election, polling consistently reported an NDP win yet the Liberals won a majority. When the dust settled it was learned that internal polling being conducted by the BC Liberals showed them winning comfortably.
Polling, both here and abroad has skewed left I expect to have the uninterested, uninformed voter to vote with the flow. I picked the winner! HA!
I also submit that if this were done to benefit the right, we wouldn’t hear the end of it. There would be calls for investigations, commissions etc. ad nauseum.
We will find out soon enough.

  28. Think the Alberta hating from the chattering classes is bad now? Wait until Alberta “foolishly” passes up on it’s “historical” opportunity to have Nutley do for Alberta what McWynnety has done and is doing to Ontario.

  29. Federal NDP caught cheating again. Remember NDPers always think that your tax dollars are their money to do with as they please. (Much like the Alberta PCs which is why they are in so much trouble.)
    http://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/tories-call-for-probe-of-ndp-union-office-allegations-1.2352109
A Conservative MP is calling for an investigation following accusations the NDP is abusing Parliamentary resources by running its union office out of the Opposition Leader’s office.
Conservative MP Randy Hoback sent a letter to the chair of the Board of Internal Economy on Thursday, asking the board to probe allegations the NDP is providing the union free office space in Ottawa.
CTV News obtained the collective agreement between Communications, Energy, and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP Local 232) and the NDP Federal Caucus. It states the NDP “Caucus will provide office space for CEP local 232,” and get access to all the resources that come with it.

  30. Ha! The headline at the National Post main site says one thing, the actual story has another title once you click on it…..
    Cunning indeed.

  31. Without a doubt a PC-WR coalition – if at least for the good of the province until the voters wise up to what the DIPs are.

  32. I think the polls are being tweaked to scare people into voting PC, and yes they do have that much power. I have no proof of this, just gut feeling. If NDP win it will be stay in BC for this Alberta guy though.

  33. dw >
“I think the polls are being tweaked……….”
Heh, considering the probability that 90% of the pollsters are 18 to 20 something’s getting “work experience” that wouldn’t be a big surprise.

  34. Where the hell are all the communists coming from? I actually don’t believe the polls either. I heard the undecided was in the neighborhood of 50 %. No wonder the NDP doubled their vote – it’s because 50 % are flip-flopping between Wildrose and Progressive Conservative. I suspect the commies are picking up most of the Liberal votes but I can’t see them grabbing votes from even Red Tories.

  35. Who answers polls anyway. I always hang up when they call. Last election Danielle Smith was winning big in the polls and we got Alison Redfraud after all.

  36. I believe it but I’ll wait for the results. Look at who traditionally votes left: the young, the immigrant, single women over 30. The last two are demographics increasing in the province. Edmonton will be orange, so will Calgary NE and Lethbridge. Throw in the reserves who always want freebies on someone else’s dime and….

  37. anselm
did Mosses drop one of those “tablets” on your head when he was coming down off the mountain?
Once you get the injury looked after could you sent a cheque east, to cover the beer and popcorn bill?

  38. I don’t understand the Dipper surge. If all the Newfies and Ontarians have been laid off and gone home the redneck vote should be polling high. Maybe those institutions of higher propaganda are finally paying off.

  39. Why? Cal2’s comment demonstrates my point to a “T”.
Cal2 seems to think that all easterners migrating to the west will carry on voting left. I agree with Cal2’s sentiment to tell people who will continue to vote left to stay where they are, but I wouldn’t actually go that far as to say it publicly.
But now let’s just flip that coin around for a moment.
What about the easterner conservative, such as myself, who is getting the blood sucked dry out of him by his lefty statist government? Do you think I would vote Liberal if I ever migrated out west?
I’ve said from the get-go. Cons need to stick together to fight the real enemy. This nonsense of telling people to stay away is precisely what the enemy needs to keep bashing our heads into the corner pocket.
On the other hand, I’m hoping that the recent polls are rigged as part of a strategy to scare people into voting PC. Possibly, but that kind of reasoning is tantamount to pulling your goalie when your down by 2 and 30 seconds left in the game.
I know the polls were “a little off” during the last election, but do you think the pollsters are that bad to screw up like that twice in a row? I suppose anything is possible in this insane world we’re living in today, but even that sounds a little too pie-in-the-sky.

  40. The progressive chickens are coming home to roost! The PCs brought this on themselves. Stop blaming easterners and da newfies haha they don’t reside in Redmonton or Leftbridge! It’s those govt workers that the PC leadership hopefuls courted from Red Ed to the Red Fraud. Prentice made a strategic error in debating Notley and ignoring Brian Jean. He was being too cute by half and gave her a platform to one up him with her snarky comebacks when he should have ignored her and debated Jean and kept the debate between the conservatives.
I am voting wildrose again this time and want a PC/wildrose minority or a wildrose majority. The media surely want to get a dipper elected in AB so they can use it as fodder for the federal election and cast doubt in the rest of the country to get rid of PM Harper. The last thing they want is a right of center led govt and a little bit of austerity. They want AB to bring in a sales tax and increase the corp tax rate so that the rest of the country is not so disadvantaged with their high spending govts. NL increased their HST 2 points from 13% to 15% in their budget this year haha more work under the table coming down in Dannyland!

  41. YEAH let’s show them! Why we’ll let them win and implement their agenda!!! Yeah that’s a real great strategy right there. That’ll show those progressives. What you fail to get is that progressives WANT THEIR AGENDA Implemented. They see the results as success.

  42. I’ll be quitting my job to sit on my A$$ and let the leftards bust theirs to support me. Let them find out how it feels.
It’s very disheartening that the sense of entitlement and “screw the rich” is taking hold. What is head scratching are the yards containing NDP signs and expensive vehicles. Do these idiots not realize they are the “rich” who will get screwed here?

  43. I noticed during the first period of THE hockey game, that the CheebeeChee ran a spot trumpeting this new poll with its results favoring the dippers. Since we know the CBC is not a neutral observer, but in fact a propaganda organ of the enemy, it follows that they somehow “created” this news to serve the agenda.
