Goodyear will not be going ahead with a multi-million dollar plant expansion in Napanee, as the international tire giant has decided to open up in Mexico.
Prince Edward County mayor Robert Quaiff says someone close to the situation told the Ontario Warden’s Caucus today the concerns surrounding dependable electricity in Napanee coupled with rising hydro rates fueled the decision.
Cleanse your province of industry, and you don’t need no stinkin’ energy.
Notice it is unreliable and expensive electricity – not unreliable and expensive (unionized) labour that is driving the factory to Mexico.
Sad really when you consider that the Golden Horseshoe was founded upon cheap reliable and plentiful electricity supply.
I wonder who their MPP is?
The green utopia is nigh
Has anybody had the gonads to ask your premier how she powers her house? Didn’t think so.
Sir Adam Beck must be spinning in his grave. Don’t tell Wynne because she’ll try and tax him for wasting energy!
It is likely the combination was just too much.
A dozen fawning Lib MPP’s on stand by to work in shifts running inside a giant gerbil wheel produce back up power.
I believe the MPP for the Napanee region is Randy Hillier, PC. He’s a fighter but he can’t fight the type of power afforded the McGuinty/Wynne Liberals by the dumb ass voters of Ontario.
Ontario is at a crossroad while Wynne and company whistle past the graveyard.
You mean Sir Henry Pellatt. He’s the one who actually built and championed cheap hydroelectric power for the Golden Horseshoe. Beck is the fascist twat who successfully lobbied to have the government take his company away because electricity was far too important to be left in the hands of the private sector.
I’ve often wondered why Pellatt isn’t better known and referenced among the Canadian right. His life story is a case study of the government simply seizing a private individual’s successful businesses just ’cause.
And where was Mayor Quaiff and all the other Mayors when The Dildo was hatching his plans? They all stood in line wagging their tails and pissing on the floor like a bunch of obsequious little puppy-dogs, queued up for government grants and the chance to laugh and scratch and slurp with the big hounds.
We are where we are because of a gross dereliction of duty.

Mexico’s power is more reliable than Ontario’s? Mexico?
When I see headlines like this about the current industrial implosion of Onterrible due to malfeasant handling of the e-energy resource, in the G&M or Star on a daily basis – THEN I will smell a recovery is coming. As long as news/evidence of the Wynn energy policy deindustrialization is suppressed by the MSM, it means the unnecessary economic downside hasn’t hurt the right people yet to indicate change.
Maybe Wynne won’t have to introduce a carbon tax after all.
don’t refer to gonads and the premier in one sentence . she may expose her. the story of the Olympic women’s axe fight comes to mind
Wynne simply doesn’t understand how wealth is created. The modern liberal/ndp think wealth is generated by a union worker in a government job. Nothing is being produced or created by that employee and the wages paid to him/her have to come from taxes collected from wealth creation. The job is a draw on the system. She and the various ndp governments across Canada don’t get it.
Kate nailed it: “Cleanse your province of industry, and you don’t need no stinkin’ energy.” How much of the hysteria behind the push for “renewables (that don’t include hydro)” is premised on the anti-industrial revolution that has been ongoing for the last 50 years. The welfare state has (naturally) morphed into the suicidal state as the parasites are now killing the hosts. Vast swaths of innumerate human ballast are being led like lemmings by the hysteria-pimping theocratic Greens with their contrived demon carbon. Their destination is a dystopian replica of a highly populated Indian Reservation with steadily shrinking funding.
The Legacy of the McGuinty/Wynne corruption is continually being expanded by the political chicanery of damaging any and all Non-Librano M.P.P’s. The Wind Turbines are located in the rural— NON-Liberal Party of Ontario/Canada/Nova Scotia —-M.P.P Ontaaario Ridings.
The goals-1/. punish the electorate in that riding for not acquiesing to being bought by one or more Librano Taxpayer funded schemes; 2/. ensure there will never be a significant employer industrilal entity located in a— NON-Liberal Party of Ontario/Canada/Nova Scotia riding—-.
Just imagine if the next Federal Election is stolened by the—- Liberal Party of Canada/Ontario/Nova Scotia—- as was done by the— Liberal Party of Ontario/Canada/Nova Scotia—-. The first step will be to close all the Post Offices in Rural Ontario. Nova Scotia will be the next Province to lose the Rural Post Offices.
Each step towards clientalisam by vote-buying in the major population centres and their bedroom communities moves this Presently “Best Country in the World” towards the Submerged Aristocratic Culture of Europe.
Remember- Wynne not only stays out of prison, she gets a pension for ruining Ontario.
“Wynne simply doesn’t understand how wealth is created…”
it’s worse than that, Abtrapper – she knows, but she doesn’t care because the stupid public doesn’t get it. She’s just another slimy politician who is quite prepared to sell future generations down the road as long as she can experience her brief glory in the sunny rays of power.
It’s too late for Ontariowe. We’re done. Our casket was sealed with the re-election of the Liberals. The only thing to do now is for the last of the productive to leave and the welfare parasites to “enjoy the decline”
Then the NDP will et elected to take care of the corpse,
Wynne was re-elected with a majority. What else can you say?
Equalization might be a cynical attempt at nation building but the $’s transferred is a matter of public record if one wants to investigate. These transfers should not be tolerated so those provinces who continue to write checks should be held accountable by their citizens.
The failed Industrial policy that was pursued for decades by both Liebel and Conservative parties is more corrupting. No political party will be held responsible for the failure of this politically misappropriation of citizens funds. Western Canadian provinces have been routinely pilfered, for decades, to finance the industrial heartland that was Ontario and Quebec.
When the debt bell tolls I suspect our country will disintegrate in quick order as fingers are pointed across the country towards those responsible.
This is just the beginning. In our backyard, Nova Chemicals is considering building another facility at a cost of @ 1 Billion. The choice is now down to this location or in one of the US Gulf states. Rumor has it that it’s going to the US, one main reason being the cost of energy.
Doing those jobs Canadians don’t want to do!
Isn’t Globalization great?
Keep the third world “Temporary” Foreign Workers coming strong as well, we could use sweatshops with suicide nets here every bit as much as they do for economic growth.
It is not just unreliable and expensive energy. While cheap and abundant
energy is the life’s blood of heavy industry, the final decision was probably
made after weighing dozens of major factors; Property and corporate tax rates,
corporate and health and safety regulations, labor and benefit costs,
insurance costs, environmental regulations, and a thousand other indirect
taxes, mandates and regulations.
In an age when governments are falling for this “Energy conservation” BS,
the big industries have already gone under or made a bee-line to foreign
shores in order to survive. But Mexico and China are willing to build the
energy infrastructure to lure businesses, and as a bonus, they have no
unions, no tree huggers, no environmental or health and safety concerns,
low corporate tax rates, low wages and minimal government regulations.
It’s an all of the above thing. I pissed my pants after I purchased
a Lincoln cordless grease gun and a set of Williams 3/4″ impact sockets
and found out the grease gun was made in China and the socket set in Taiwan.
The build quality was great with both products, but it broke my heart to see
these 2 great companies driven offshore after a hundred years in business.
This is both political, and a self-inflicted wound. If we do not
do something to reverse this, it will be like the closing scene in
Atlas Shrugged, with the lights going off. Without industry and
innovation, we die!
“Western Canadian provinces have been routinely pilfered, for decades, to finance the industrial heartland that was Ontario and Quebec.”
Oooooh… it’s the Great Central Canadian ConspiracyTM, I tell you!
Get your tinfoil hats here for cheap!
No sales tax – this is Alberta!
We continually see the “benefits” reaped by the LIEBRALS and their disastrous energy policies.
A couple of Brownouts that nixes the Media outlets would be good for the province…might just wake them up as to why this happened. I feel for all of you stuck in that morass of morons running what was once a great industrial province…ya know things have gone to shit when companies decide to move to Mexico cause electricity is cheaper..!!
Well, It’s not like they were’nt warned. Parker Gallant and his excellent series: “Ontario’s Power Trip” was bang on the money .. and one of the Prime reasons I left to come back to the West in 2010.
What we need in this country, at EVERY LEVEL is an END to POLITICAL IMMUNITY … only then will the power return to the people that elect them sorry SOB’s…and finally make them TRULY ACCOUNTABLE as opposed to the stereotypical MIKE DUFFY gang we are currently saddled with.
Its either that or lock n load…
CT, there used to be a flow of goods and $$$$ from east to west, it has reversed, but you may just want to quit bitchin, as you fools out west are going down the toilet as fast as Detario is
When was that 1929 ?
Thanks, but if I’d said Pellatt no-one would have recognized the connection. Beck is far more recognized in Ontariowe than Pellatt but it seems we have come full circle thanks to the Liberals, after 100+ years we’ll be back to a private power company and we can then begin to castigate the carpetbaggers and robber barons again. Just proves you can’t please everybody.
Congratulations Wynne, you have reduced our carbon footprint. And how much colder will that make Ontario?
George Soros is rubbing his hands in glee
I wish them good luck in affording the burial as with no one working and no one paying taxes there will be no money for even a spreading of the ashes of this once great province on the lawn at Queens Park.
The energy conservation argument is fraudulent. First, it assumes that we are lacking energy – there is an abundance of energy sources on this planet. Second, it assumes that the correct response to this supposed shortage of energy is “conservation”.
This is like telling a hungry man that the solution to his problem is to eat less.
“We are where we are because of a gross dereliction of duty.”
Great Scottish analogy. What amazes me is how the man has the balls to even come back to Ontario considering the destruction left in in his wake.

Rex Murphy had a great little article on this shameless, ego driven narcissist who crawled back into Canada as a lobbyist.

A GREAT way to reduce electrical demand………..
