We probably will end up eating a nuke or some other WMD in a major population center someday and we’ll STILL hear BS about it “not being true Islam” and how we “can’t overreact” or other such BS.

Must disagree, I.M. A turning point will come, after which the “We can’t overreact” voices will be crushed under the massive over reaction. It will either be something small, or something very big.
For the British in WWII, that was Dunkirk. I think historians agree that Dunkirk is when the British public finally pulled their heads out of their @$$e$ and noticed there was a war on. Previously, the intelligentsia were pacifist but that pretty much stopped after Dunkirk. Because that was when they had to personally step up and do something other than pay taxes. Fifty zillion little motorboats is what got all those kids off the beach at Dunkirk, so a -lot- of civilians suddenly had skin in the game. When those civilians got home they mostly didn’t have too much time for quitters and cowards, and an awful lot of fashionably pacifist twits got punched in the face that summer in pubs all over England.
I think that moment has already happened in America. I think it was 9/11. It doesn’t get covered in the news, except when things like “American Sniper” start getting huge attendance. Most Americans are against what’s happening, and they vote with their money and time already.
What will it take for the likes of Jon Stewart and Michael Moore to get on board? I doubt there’s anything that could do it. ISIS burned a guy alive in a cage yesterday, its all over the web, I hear no cries of outrage from the Left. They have vested interests to protect after all, there’s a bunch of money involved.
What will happen sooner than later is that it will become socially costly for these people to shoot their mouths off. They’ll begin getting punched in the face at dinner parties by guys who’s sons are off fighting ISIS someplace. That’s when the newsies will finally have skin in the game and it will all turn on a dime. All it will be over is one guy will say the wrong thing about the wrong subject at the wrong time. A tweet could do it.
Let the president of CNN have his jaw broken at a fancy New York City dinner party by an important former DemocRat donor who’s irate at CNN’s coverage of Israel. Let Michael Moore have garbage thrown at him everywhere he goes for some idiot tweet he posted. Let Jon Stewart’s show get cancelled because ten million p1ssed off viewers phoned the network and yelled at them because Little Jonny said the exact wrong thing. That’s what it will take.
I hasten to add I don’t think the vast coming over reaction will be a Good Thing, it will probably suck for everybody. But its coming.
