  1. Don’t live in Alberta but is this Conservatives attacking their own? Given what’s happened to Ontario the Alberta PC’s better be careful. Opposition was easy for Smith when dealing with Redford, not so easy with Prentice, an opposition on the same wavelength would not be too effective.

  2. Doc Smith’s daughter is now unelectable in AB – except perhaps as a Liberal – or maybe a fed Lib???
There has to be a political plumb in this for Danny otherwise it’s the worst case of political suicide I’ve ever seen in AB.

  3. I truly admire Danielle’s courage in making the tough decision and leaving the extremist weirdos to rot into oblivion.
She will win an even larger majority in High River.
I hope she gets the Finance portfolio.

  4. Danielle is the worst kind of politician – one who would supplant the importance of an effective opposition for a cushy role with the PCs. As a voter, i am really, really tired of the abuse of my pocketbook, property rights and tax dollars to feather some fat a55ed politicians nest. i had hope the WR would somehow bring sanity into the trough insanity. Apparently that was too much to hope for.
    And FU Iola.

  5. No where in the interview did I hear that any of the ten shared principles included a non starter on new taxes. A distancing from the AGW scam. Or the implementation of Agenda21.
Yeah, it was more like a merging of social progressives and big government elites.
She looks like she hasn’t slept for days… May that trend continue.

  6. If she and the others really have the courage of their convictions, then they should run again in a by-election as did the two UKIP MPs in Britain. And is Iola a man dressed as a woman? I think I heard a song about that once.

  7. Wildrose Defectors
    Danielle Smith (Highwood)

  8. Drill in the ANWR and if the granola munchers/tree huggers dont like it tell them to go pound sand and the same to those various eco-freak groups as well and dump the demacrats into the trash heap of useful idiots

  9. Communism is dead, socialism has AIDS, liberalism is HIV+. The two long-term trends in the West (including USA, Europe and Russia) are political drift to the Left, followed by bankruptcy. In Canada and the US provinces and states can go bankrupt too. Ontario and California anyone? The third trend of increasing concentration of wealth in the hands of the 1%, probably won’t affect the collapse much, except make it worse?
Smith doesn’t want the white heterosexual working class patriot vote – crude redneck racist rural riff-raff, she prefers slick, smooth, suave, suburban, latte sipping metrosexuals. Don’t worry Danielle the white heterosexual vote will soon be extinct, and you can observe sharia law under your burka.

  10. So, until a few short weeks ago, Danielle thought The PCs were beyond repair. But now she thinks a super savior has arrived as all is well. So Danielle, please tell us what you are going to be thinking in a few short weeks hence. You need to do that now, before you feel what the muzzle of cabinet solidarity feels like. Actually, make that cabinet solidarity with out an opposition. What was that old proverb? If the muzzle fits…….?

  11. Interestingly she commented that there may soon be a general election; she must have a personal plan. Anyone care to bet whether the plan includes running in Highwood?

  12. She got two liberal PC leaders to resign, but the Wildrose wasn’t going to win the next election either. I will still give money to the Wildrose as I believe they are the best opposition but I also see her point of view, she was not going to get Prentice to quit.
I don’t like conservatives eating their own, Ezra is biting the hand that feeds him just trying to score points with Eastern Media Types. It seems he is trying to get tape for a CBC job interview.

  13. hard choices a’comin’
not all dem skools gettin bilt
    da hillbillies will re-elect PC’s
    soon to have;
    personal health care fees reinstated
end of flat tax, higher income tax
higher sin tax (booze, cigs, gambling)
higher user service charges (car plates, camping fees, road tolls?)
    no fun budget
All coz these jokers runnin the show for 40+ years can’t plan past next week.

  14. Mark >
Ezra did a great job holding a politicians feet to the fire. Something you will never see in Canadian journalism today.
Too bad Ezra wasn’t the official opposition leader of Alberta – better yet Premier.
He’d go down in History as the provinces greatest, I have no doubts.

  15. In the great defection I see three major losers. First the people of Alberta. We need an effective opposition. Danielle Smith who has spectacularly committed political suicide and Jim Prentice who showed himself less than wise in accepting the floor crossers. With all the opposition from everyday Albertans and his own caucus there is no way he can appoint Smith to cabinet. This is going to anger a very vindictive individual who will inflict as much harm as she can from her position from inside the caucus. Anyone care to speculate how long Smith will be a PC caucus member before the caucus gives her the boot?

  16. If she actually believed in any garbage she just threw out there, she should have at least waited for Prentice to deliver a budget and then decide their values align. What an opportunistic loser.

  17. and the preacher, Prescott Manning is the “force” behind this deception
the SOB should have stayed at the front of the church spewing his lies and BS

  18. Sounds like there’s enough support here to start up another party.
Could call it the Whiner Party.

  19. I guess we’ll see you sitting around the campfire with Jim Prentice, Danielle Smith and David Suzuki, eh.

  20. While I don’t condone her actions and agree with Ezra there was one statement i.e. comparison- she made I agree with. She talked about how Brad Wall changed the culture in Sask by example and thinks/hopes Prentice will do the same.
    Time will tell, I guess.

  21. If you have any sense of history you will remember that the WRP was a ragtag bunch of malcontents until Special Ed ticked off the oil money in Calgary. The oil money latched on to the WRP and installed their leader – Danielle Smith. Danielle with someone else’s cheque book was able to get rid of Special Ed and his replacement Alison Redfraud. Then the PCs woke up and realized they needed the oil money to stay in power and the oil money which had been playing ‘lovable loser’ to get the PCs back on track decided to reinvest in the PCs. Danielle realized that she had no future since the money had gone to the PCs so she decided to follow. The problem is going to come from Danielle’s narcissism when she doesn’t get a cabinet post which she believes she is entitle to.

  22. Danielle told you herself that she believes she’s entitle (spelled exactly how you did) to a cabinet post?
So, you voted for her knowing she’s a nacissist?
WRP was there when Stelmach raised the royalties?
You’ve figured out that the Calgary oil companies created WRP and switched their money to Prentice, leaving WRP high and dry?
I wish I was half as smart as you are.

  23. Watched the interview, Ezra rocks, finally a journalist on TV.
Danielle looked weak and ill, could not/would not answer the questions.
I am perplexed by her faith, she is a politician, she just betrayed the party faithful, yet she is apparently convinced that Jim Prentice will keep his promises to her..
Funny how the assurances of such a slippery conservative, CINO, are so convincing..
Any conservative who believes in Jimmy Boys conservative values, is about to get a real education..

  24. Brad Wall didn’t change the culture by any example that Elwin Hermanson wasn’t already setting for his party. Brad Wall is good fellow and a good leader, I am not discounting that, but what he brought that made the big difference to getting the Sask. Party elected was that he is younger and more telegenic than Mr. Hermanson.

  25. Danielle seems to have grown into entitlement quite well. Given that all the debate is over corruption and political gaming rather than principles, I don’t think WRP has anything left to offer unless they can essentially become another actual libertarian alternative, an Alberta party that had a short and unsuccessful impact in the Seventies. I can understand Danielle’s point about the futility of a WRP opposition based on principles as neither party had any stomach for shrinking leviathan, something that they may have to re-think with roughly $10 billion less in annual revenue over the next few years.

  26. set you slave: Might I suggest that you spend more time looking for content rather than looking for typos. I clearly said that the WR existed before Special Ed became premier and the oil money started to flow their way.
You have no idea who I vote for or why. I’ll give you ha hint though. My vote goes to the local candidate who best represents my point of view. I do not vote for the party or the party’s leader unless the leader is in my riding and he meets my qualifications. I once voted against the premier when he was parachuted into my local riding after losing his own to a stuffed chicken.
If you were in the province at the time of the installation of Danielle you would remember the news reports all saying that Calgary oil money had switched to the WRP. Many of those reports said that the Calgary oil money was the reason Smith became leader. I didn’t make that up. I also know that Prentice has done enough good things to get the Calgary oil money to come back to the PCs.
Finally Danielle’s narcissism became evident when she refused to step down as leader after losing every election she fought then trying to destroy the party that she formerly led. Having met and suffered from several narcissists I recognize the pattern. They are your best friend – until you slight them – then they become your worst enemy.

  27. Danielle Smith and her clique probably held the two main
factions of the WRP together by threatening to leave.
DID the day finally come when it didn’t work any more?

  28. FYI. I’ve been in the province since I was three years old.
WRP always has been sponsored by oil sector, even though they have never actually revealed where their funding came from.
Their membership had always voted Conservative, so when the oil money started going to Prentice, what principles did they stand for … other than providing political influence for their sponsors?
Ralphie never made any secret of the fact he knew where his bread was buttered.
    Always follow the money.
This is a reunification after a short spat, but it’s amazing how much whining it’s causing.

  29. Shouldn’t talk about Ralphie like that.
He was only doing what his masters at head office bid him to do.

  30. set you free >
“WRP always has been sponsored by oil sector…”
    And what?
Everyone on Alberta has been sponsored by the “oil sector”, if you live in Alberta you should roll down your window and check out the geography sometime.
Every Ontario bum that lands his behind in Alberta looking for a handout is sponsored by the “Oil Sector”. From used car salesman to the Real-estate opportunists.
Does anyone seriously think the mass Liberal immigration and interference in Alberta politics is about broccoli?

  31. So, then it’s OK if the oil companies switch their sponsorship money to the Jim Prentice party and the party they formerly sponsored has gone back to the party the came from?
    It’s OK with me.
One question though. If Prentice had crossed the floor to the WRP, would he be called a whore or is that terminology only reserved for females who cross the floor?
Any of you geniuses want to take a shot at that question?

  32. I would appear to be one of the few who have actually been involved by paying party memberships, sequentially to the PC,s. Wildrose and to come, the PC,s again. I was badly mislead in the party votes in both the Stelmach and Redford cases but am still a staunch supporter of Conservative Parties,(though I wish they would drop the Progressive part from their name which I read as Regressive). Albertans should look to their next door neighbor to the east to appreciate the miracles that are possible when dropping so called progressive socialist ideas.

  33. set you free >
“…then it’s OK if the oil companies switch their sponsorship money to the Jim Prentice party”
LOL, do you seriously think the PC Party of Alberta gets NO “Oil Sponsorship Money”?
If so you maybe shouldn’t be commenting here so much.
“If Prentice had crossed the floor to the WRP, would he be called a whore” – SYF
Uh,yes? Nice straw-man though, last time I checked most politicians male or otherwise are called political whores when they do anything against their electorate’s wishes.
You need to get on Al Sharpton’s payroll, shucks too bad Danielle ain’t black, yes?

  34. “I wish they would drop the Progressive part from their name”
No. They should keep it and drop the Conservative part.
They are Progs and they are progressing toward Dystopia.

  35. When your provincial ruling so-called conservative party is as well entrenched as the feral liberals were, where does a Conservative go? Wild Rose was an important check on party power. Now that check is yielded. There will be more liberals sneaking and perverting conservative principals.

  36. Two choices now you cowards.
Vote for Alberta Party, Liberal or NDP.
Or start up your own party.
But please, quit your whining and name-calling.
Who the hell did you vote for before the WRP was formed? I bitch, therfore I am party?

  37. Robert of Ottawa >
    “….where does a Conservative go?”
Keep voting Wild Rose, send a message.
There’s still plenty of Albertan’s that believe in the WR platform regardless of DS. In fact maybe more people may jump on board because she’s not there.
Many PC’s may decide to switch sides, and best of all Alberta has some great Conservatives, it won’t be long until a true patriot decides he’s made enough money in the private sector and throws his weight into the race.
    Hopefully several.

  38. So, when there’s no difference between the WRP and PC platforms, vote for the party that’s not on the ballot?
