Free Ben Dover!

Katie Hopkins, a pro-Israel weekly opinion columnist for British newspaper The Sun, tweeted some anti-Palestinian comments last week. Yesterday, a dedicated website appeared online inviting people to sign a petition to shut her up:

Katie Hopkins, You are hereby formally notified in writing that I have placed you under arrest under the powers contained within section 24A of the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1974.

The petitioning didn’t go quite according to plan:

Notice from the Admin: It seems that the followers of Katie Hopkins have been signing the arrest notification below using profane names.

Ruh-oh. In response to this unacceptable tomfoolery, the brain trust behind Arrest Her Now decided to put the ‘Mrs Edith Noseyc**ts’ of the world on all-caps notice (I won’t soil Kate’s page with all-caps here):

This particular page automatically sends the arrest notice to Katie Hopkins but also the police and the Home Secretary. We must advise that when the police receive it – it has the fake name on it. Now considering the names themselves are profane and you have just sent them to the police, should they feel that it is offensive and wish to pursue the individual in question then we will of course turn over our data to them.

Well, of course. L’état, c’est gauche.

  1. The scary thing is I think there’s a few serious names mixed in there. My Terrorist BabyKiller one has not been confirmed yet.

  2. And yet… just a couple of years ago in the UK a judge kept a woman in prison, over Christmas, for saying in a youtube drunken rant racist comments. The judge justified her incarceration to a great degree with the same statutes in this law (as written within the article)…
“(3)But the power of summary arrest conferred by subsection (1) or (2) is exercisable only if—… 4)The reasons are to prevent the person in question—… (b)suffering physical injury;…”
The judge declared she was at risk FROM the public and thus ordered her to jail.
    Gotta’ love the State.

  3. Yeah, you’ve gotta love any public figure (like Jeremy Clarkson) who’s willing to be un-PC in Britain.
Last year 38,000 people signed a petition calling for Katie Hopkins to be banned from appearing on TV after she tweeted the following quip about an NHS report about the short life expectancy (59 years) for people born in a certain period of time in Scotland:

Goodness me. That lot will do anything to avoid working until retirement.

In the case of at least one station, the petitioners appeared to get their wish.
Here’s what I find really strange: if a comedian – left, right, or center – made the same quip about the Scots in some televised performance, most people – probably including the same people who signed the petition to have Hopkins banned from TV — would just laugh.
The prog-twats seem to have a deeply-rooted belief that what other people are and aren’t allowed to say should be based on their own reaction. Kind of an “okay, she can say it, aaaand that woman can say it, buuut…that one over there can’t.”

  4. I think it would be a shame if this thread about what a festering hell-hole England has become degenerated into some sort of made-up dirty name compilation. Dick C. Normous and Ramit Deep feel the same way.

  5. There is no humor in progland. There is no humor in islam. A match made in hell, may they burn together.

  6. have you noticed on the website the extract from the communications act. Now tell me that they are not infringing this by forwarding messages to the police.
    Thickpelts

  8. The names of A. Sholé Goatbuggerer and Rothergirls not Rotherham have’t been added. Wonder why…

Strange, I don’t ever remember an upset or claim like you mention. Links please…we’ll wait.
Should you be unable to buttress your assertion, a period of ‘shut up’ may be in order.

  10. Ha! Those two blokes again. You know they got hitched now it’s legal in some parts, Ben Dover and Phillip McCavity and their drunken sot neighbor flopping all over their yard, Patty O’Furnichur.
