  1. Why are all of them wearing such ridiculous outfits? Were I a world leader I would refuse to be dressed in such manner.
    Obama deserves his position in the photo. Americans should be worried.

  2. Steven Harper is directly behind Putin, and obviously within the circle of influence. Obama is lucky he’s not at the very end. Xi essentially sent him to eat at the children’s table. I guess being a lame duck president who prefers to golf instead of govern does that.

  5. The smart folks at zerohedge recognised Merkel as part of the ‘inner circle’ (yes I’m a poet).
    However, no mention PM Harper right next to her. Could someone enlighten them over there…please.

  6. You know, the Chinese are very clever. What would you do if you were trying to split an alliance? Estrangement of the alliance’s biggest partner is one way to do that. At worst, it’s disregarded as a childish parlour trick. At best (from the antagonist’s perspective) you plant seeds of division.

  9. Obama, if aware of the photo-op as some representation of world status, would likely have requested it so as he despises the notion of American exceptionalism. This portrait would therefore be his equivalence of the “Trudeau Salute” to the US. If he wasn’t aware, then he still stands where he belongs, with the Checkers players rather then those who play Chess.

    That is not Merkel, that is Lauren Harper….
    And Obama really does not look happy. He knows his lame duck status. Harper is in his position for reasons of seniority, like him or not he has been to more of these than most, Canada’s potential importance as a trade partner and look who he is beside, tony abbott of Australia, who would also be important to the Chinese for geographic and resource reasons. Abbott will be there for a few years, as far as the Chinese can tell Harper is just as likely to win election again and Obama is a setting sun from their perspective….oh and Vlad ain’t going anywhere soon.
    THis is a major snub and should be seen as such. For a number of reasons though, this is not a good thing, for the world to function the way we are most comfortable the US needs to have more respect and influence than is being displayed here. However, I am sure our PM is is appreciating the humour of the situation.

  15. Obama has worked hard to earn his position of insignificance. As a narcissist he wouldn’t even clue in to this slight until someone in the media points it out. Even then it will have to be explained because it’s always about him. He’s still the head of the most powerful military on the planet. What he does not understand is that both his friends and enemies have him pegged as being a weenie that will back away from any international confrontation. Both he and Kerry continue to see climate change as the biggest threat to the planet. That just has to be heart warming to countries that have global ambitions. They don’t even have to pretend any respect for the man as a world leader but do need him to continue the path of destruction in his own country for a couple more years. After 6 years they know him fairly well.

    I can understand why the Chinese view both of these two with such little regard. One is a horrible joke of a leader and the other is the president of South Korea.
    I hope President Park steels her spine in the next couple of years and leads the charge to ruin North Korea as a buffer state for China. Somebody has to get a rise out of China. It might as well be her as Obama is just useless and Harper cares only about trading with this paper tiger.

    As said above,Obama’s too self-absorbed to realise they’ve just spat in his face.

Barack Obama and the Democrats have successfully achieved the unthinkable – fully marginalized the strongest western democracy in the face of the two largest, and soon to be omnipotent, communist regimes.
