Tonight, acclaimed male vocal quartet The Hilliard Ensemble, sounding remarkably at times like a pipe organ than emits vowel tones, performs a Tudor period song called Absent I am.

It still wasn’t terrorism.

Ottawa traffic stop part of RCMP national security probe
http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/ottawa-traffic-stop-part-of-rcmp-national-security-investigation
A chaotic Ottawa police traffic stop on Bank Street in which a plainclothes Ontario Provincial Police officer fired a single shot at a man was part of an RCMP national security investigation, the Citizen has learned.
The RCMP’s Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET) has been monitoring south Ottawa resident Luqman Abdunnur, 39, with the assistance of the OPP’s surveillance unit.
INSET officers have as their mandate to track and disrupt criminal behaviour of known terrorist groups or people who pose a threat to national security.
Catherine Pinhas terrifies me.
Hope Ontario is enjoying the “Global adjustment” that’s giving them the highest energy costs in N America.

Excellent musical selection EBD. In many ways it goes hand in hand with the excellent commentary you linked to. The music epitomizes one of the many great aspects of Western culture, and the commentary argues quite correctly that we are at risk of throwing it all away.
In other news:
1. The Conservatives are going to introduce income splitting, but likely capped at $2k benefit. It’s a good start.
2. More women coming forward on Ghomeshi, now up to eight. This shouldn’t come as any surprise. It is all out there on the Internet if you are simply willing to look. I suspect still more to speak up. He is toast.
Winter blues will soon be hitting all of us who stay here and brave the snow, the cold and other perils that can drive us to the edge of the precipice.
In this 1978 movie ”The Driver,” Ryan O’Neill plays the role of a hired driver in a host getaway cars. In this clip, the Ford LTD leaves a few Dodges biting the dust. A few scenes that are guaranteed to warm your blood. You might find the entire movie if you cruise Youtube.
Enjoy!!

BlazingCatFur has been looking into Jian’s closet.
Apparently Jian’s consensual kink isn’t either.
The man just likes to hurt women.
The CBC likely, very likely, knew and covered. They allowed it to continue.

New requirements for hand brakes and other safety devices to ensure parked trains stay put are among the changes Transport Canada will enforce in response to the 2013 rail disaster in Lac-Mégantic, Que.
Transport Minister Lisa Raitt announced that her department is recruiting 10 additional inspectors to do more audits and provide more information to municipalities about the rail cargo moving through their communities.
Rail companies found not in compliance will be held accountable, with new monetary penalties for failing to implement adequate safety management systems.

I was just so darned happy to get this email today from the librarian at the DHH library, I decided to put it in Reader Tips – altho’ it’s not intended as a ‘tip’.
Over a number of years I researched the history of a nearby airport that trained Fleet Air Arm pilots from 1940 to 1945 and finally published it this year – my 86th – with the title Harvards Above. I also put my research on a website.
It’s a modest effort so I’ve been pleased with the good comments I’ve received.
To hear that naval/air historians have expressed a “keen interest” in it has my head spinning. Hope no minds me going O/T.
“Congratulations on your book covering an important time and aspect of Canadian military history.
Our naval/air historians have expressed a keen interest in your book and have asked me to acquire a copy. I read the chain of emails, and understand that it is yet to be printed. When it is printed would you please let me know the cost and where I may purchase a copy for:

This is in a very different style but I like it. I’m no expert on this stuff but I think Shakespeare wrote the song – lyrics, and possibly the music. This is from Twelfth Night.

Also this week, a Pakistani assault rifle collector is being deported (apparently, more to come).
Canadian Press – It’s only a “terrorist attack” because of government spin….
———————–
Almost immediately after the mayhem began, Conservative MPs were posting comments on the Internet, referring to a “terrorist attack.”
The mantra stuck in government circles, and was later voiced by the RCMP and on Tuesday by visiting U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry.
