…a seemingly grey area exists when a product is labeled as non-GMO, yet a GMO counterpart does not exist. For example, should an avocado be labeled as non-GMO if GMO avocados don’t exist? What about salt? Crushed tomatoes? A recent article highlighted that some brands of popcorn are advertised as not containing genetically modified corn when there is no genetically modified corn of the popcorn variety on the market.

WTF?
So is my beef GMO? What a bunch of anti-human a@@holes these people are.Starve them first!
We live in the age of mendacity. But that’s perfectly OK, the multi-cultists assure us, because there is no such thing as truth.
Excuse me, who thinks salt is an organism?
Sorta like the “gluten-free” hamburger I’ve been buying lately.
Don’t taste any difference…
Hey, how dare you deny a greenie hipster the smug self congratulations of buying non GMO water?
wow , corn is the most genetically modified product on the planet . completely dependent on man to harvest and reseed. no corn can seed itself
There you go again,cal2.Stating facts.Get with the Narrative,buddy 🙂
cal2,
Yes, most corn seed is for hybrid varieties and most hybrids will not germinate but some hybrids will and there are lots of heirloom garden corn varieties still available. I see scattered corn plants in the soya bean fields around my place that sprouted and grew from kernels that spilled during last year’s harvest. Every type of plant you can think of was a wild plant before mankind switched from hunter-gatherer to farmer.
Off topic but making heads explode in Toronto never gets old:

I really love that mention of non-GMO “Himalayan pink salt rock.” And I do know that many followers of this blog burn non-GMO
gasoline in their cars. It’s the only way to go!
Yes! grown in p** s***!! But are you sure it is non-GMO p** s***?
(not taking any chances with Ms. McMillan’ prissy spam filter).
Some of these thing are pure scams! I have seen “Gluten
Free” on products that could not possibly contain gluten.
It is like those ED pill commercials that state “If
you have an erection lasting more than 4 hours, see
a doctor.” Pure marketing genius, but bullshit none-
theless.
Has anyone ever tried gluten free flour tortillas? I
once found that a local Whole Foods was out of every
other kind, so I bought some. I would rather eat the
pig-shit these so-called organic products were grown
in!
99 percent of these products are as much organic as I
am Chinese. Genetically modified? Can anyone tell
me the original color of the carrot? Or why a hybrid
was developed to make them orange?
Why should anyone here care what scams marketing uses to fleece the gullible and uninformed? You already denigrate the people that buy these products so why the false concern? You don’t really care if they buy non-GMO salt or have energy efficient kitchen counters. There is very little truth in advertising and only a fool would believe that the problem is unique to the food industry.
My friend had a little stand selling firewood on the side of the road. He was telling me that business wasn’t too good. I told him to double the price and have a sign calling it Organic Firewood. He sold out the next day.
Most pig shit isn’t organic; that’s a silly misinformed assumption. Pigs will eat anything and their commercial feed is quite contaminated with drugs, hormones, industrial chemicals, GMO corn and soybeans, and who knows what else. If you want organic shit, your best choices are composted horse and sheep manure.
John Galt nailed it. Most ads contain misleading nonsense.
The anti GMO fanaticism is a huge setback to a world trying to feed 7 billion people. Ecoweenies and the media killed GMO potatoes that were developed 25 years ago. These new varieties all but eliminated the need for insecticides in the east where they have to spray over 10 X to kill CPBs. The stoopid part was the gene that made the spuds toxic to CPBs came from BT and bacteria that is accepted by the organic crowd. Idiocy.
Lots of EXPENSIVE fertilizers with very low amounts of actual plant food (like NPK at 3:2:1) are labelled, “Contains no fillers.” Implying that other fertilizers contain fillers which almost none do. The actual nutrients in these scams cost 5 or 10X that of the nutrients on good old granular fertilizers that contain much more real plant food.
The gluten-free labeling can be annoying. Gosh my wife is a bona fide celiac so we’ve paid attention to gluten for 30 years. Now everything is labeled as such as if it is special in some way. Crazy ad crap.
What will happen to the 15-25 people currently living in the world with genes of 3 parents, these people are GMO Humans! One woman is pregnant and will give birth soon, scientists can’t wait to see whether she passes on her genetic makeup.
Will the anti-GMO crowd want these people sterilized or killed before they contaminant the global human gene pool?
Just google Gluten Free Water. Yep, you can also get that. You just paid for the privilege of being a sucker.
I’m planning on making a mint on selling hippies organically grown rocks for garden edging.
That reminds me that there is a store down the street that
sells nothing but water. It truly takes a brazen asshole
to sell H2O at prices per gallon higher than premium gasoline!
You put a French sounding name on a product and you have a
license to steal; Avian, Yoplait, Haagen Dazs, etc… You
have to be corn fed dummy to spend twice as much or more
for these domestically made products.
This is like the Jordache Jeans of the 21st century. Even as
a kid in the 70s, there was always the taste test that pitted
bottled water against L.A. or New York City tap water. The
tap water always won this annual contest.
Penn and Teller took it to the logical conclusion:

Gluten free hamburgers…
Fruedian slip…they are admitting they use filler in their patties….as most do.
John Galt….you are another sucker….believing the PETA/animal rights propaganda….modern livestock enterprises involve biosecurity…not antibiotics.
Modern livestock production, 4 decades past, after a brief flirtation with that quickly realized they were creating resistant diseases.
Same with hormones, a practice that would turn LIVs off eating meat.
I suspect that non-GMO is a practical impossibility. Most of our feed-stocks originated in Mesopotamia….with the exceptions of rice, maize, potatoes and taro.
Very few non domesticated specimens have ever been identified in the wild….
we know that corn (zea maize) is a derived tropical grass but a good case can be made that perhaps ancient aliens did a lot more than move big rocks.
Just further proof that you can sell an idiot anything.
Once again LIV’s.Except for monohydroxide dioxygen and a few rocks, everything on earth is organic,us included. It simply means contains carbon. And right you are, sasquatch. If it hadn’t been modified,it wouldn’t be worth a cr@p as food stock.
I don’t see a problem here. I’ve been informing people for years that the software that I write contains no trans-fats and that no animals were harmed in its production.
You are misinformed about industrial meat production and the continued use of pharmaceuticals in CAFOs.
I once used the DMHO website to scare the shit out of a
teenage neighbor. After he stewed for a few hours, I
revealed that it was water!
Some gags are worth repeating, do you think Occam [sic]
will fall for this one?
exactly… it’s not about anything ‘organic’ specifically. It’s all about getting people to buy stuff they don’t need with money they don’t have, so they go deeper into debt. Organic foods is relatively truthful as compared with cosmetics, for example.
Why smarten up the chumps? If a guy who doesn’t use depleted Uranium in his pizza recipe can squeeze a few extra bucks out of the eternally timorous by printing “Depleted Uranium Free” on his boxes, I say good on him.
You got it correct Leonard. The United States of Entertainment groupies on the U.S.E. East and West coast are justa full Europee on envy. Cheers;
Well, actually it can reseed itself, but the plants you would get would be pretty useless for producing much food.
