In a story that sounds almost too ridiculous to be true, both La Presse and the Toronto Star are reporting that John Baird’s Twitter account is being investigated by Graham Fraser, Canada’s language watchdog – after someone complained that the foreign affairs minister’s tweets were mostly in English.

Strangely enough, Canadian’s mostly speak, read and write in English as well.
Is “Oh, shut up.” an appropriate response?
How do you say that in French?
Graham Fraser would probably starve to death if he ever lost his job. Ratf**k SOBs aren’t exactly a sought after commodity in the private sector.
How do you say witch hunt in Francophobe
More nonsense from bureaucrats attempting to keep the gravy train alive.
Le meme chose en francais.
The Ministry of Silly Walks was supposed to be humour of the absurd not a design manual for future governments too large and stupid to function.
Vilken idiot. Hur kan det komma sig att de mest värdelösa människorna alltid söker sig till den offentliga sektorn?
Minister Baird is tweeting in English? Oh my God! Send in the “language police” quick, those billions of taxpayer dollars employed to force people to “speak french” aren’t going to just spend themselves. More Government coercion to prop up the perverse artificial construct that is the inherently bigoted scheme of “bilingualism”. Hey, at least the Province of Quebec doesn’t have to worry about the federal language police forcing them to “speak English”, Quebec is an officially french language Province, and they’ve got their own french language police. Fraser’s ferocious commitment towards his appointment of french language czar is pretty much what one would expect from a hard core commie, he’s very dedicated.
Shut up -“Ferme ta gueule!” Witch hunt – chasse aux sourcières”
Remember Michael Ignatieff pushing for obligatory bilingual municipal signs for businesses in Eastern Ontario – the Liberals who are the great uniters, according to Justin Trudeau in his forthcoming autobiography Common Ground.
Since when is a personal twitter account an official government site?
Why do we have a language watchdog, can we not speak the language of our choice in our personal lives? Do all the French speaking MP’s do their tweeting in both languages of is the language gestapo only concerned about the English?
We don’t need a commissar of languages in this country.
I wonder if he’ll be told to send separate tweets in both official languages or to make each tweet bilingual!
The latter solution is difficult to implement because of the limited number of characters and the fact that French typically takes up more of them.
We should have a royal commission report ready in a only a few years.
I cannot use words strong enough to express my revulsion. stick French where the sun don’t shine.
I for one are all for French immersion, throw the whiners off the east coast with waterproof maps of Frances location, thats proper immersion Alberta style. John Baird does more proper things in a week than all of Quebec has done in 200 years.
Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages Of Canada
If you go to the official office site and click on “File a Complaint”, guess what happens?

Or maybe it only “travaieres” if you’re a frog.
I’m reminded of the movie Canadian Bacon where John Candy and his American cohorts were pulled over by Dan Akroyd the RCMP officer while driving a van with vulgar and derogatory comments about Canada graffiti’d on the sides of the van; because… the insults were not written in both Canadian official languages.
Great movie!
This is so utterly ridiculous that it borders on the bizarre. No. On second thought, it is bizarre to the point of being unbelievable. I think it’s well past time for Mr. Fraser and his entire fiefdom to be shooed away from the trough although as Robert L so eloquently puts it, they would probably not fare so well in the real world.
Canada is a great country however the lengths that our politicians go to p*ss away money defies description. The CBC is the first thing that comes to mind when discussing flushing tax dollars, however Fraser and his intrepid crew fall into the same category albeit on a much smaller scale.
Of course most of his tweets are in English.
Baird is Minister of Foreign Affairs and English is the lingua franca of the 21 century!
🙂
Let us not forget that Mr Fraser joins Mike Duffy, Pamela Wallin, Patrick Brazeau, Bruce Carson, some Supreme Court justices and other judges, Human Rights Commission employees, etc. among the appointees to offices of public trust who have been selected by Prime Minister Harper. I still have high regard for Mr Harper, but I have to ask who he’s consulting about the people he appoints to office.
The focus of every Tory appointee to the hundreds of Liberal legacy offices should be the reduction, reform, and, ideally, the abolition of those offices.
Baiser les français!
If at any time in my politically aware life, I was asked who the Foreign Affairs Minister was….I doubt that I could answer correctly.
I know who John Baird is.
I am not however familiar with the PISSANTE known as Graham Fraser. Just another nameless Bureaucrat continuing to suck at the public teat.
1 Complaint right..????
figured as much..
What did you do in the war, Grandpa?
Why, I had a very important job, Johnny. I sniffed farts to make sure there was a proper mixture of pea soup and poutine in the mix.
Just another useless prick doing pretend work in a make-believe job.
The problem with French is not their language, but rather that they think in French.
YES, it is indeed … “too ridiculous to be true”
Frankly, what is more ridiculous is the FACT that the English speaking majority tax payers in this country are literally and sadly …
— PAYING FOR their own demise —
Billions and billions of Canadian tax dollars being wasted on ever year trying to force ALL CANADIANS to be bilingual while the French (mostly in “the province” of Quebec but also scattered throughout the provinces of Canada (what are called Franco X province name) demand that EVERYTHING b done in French ONLY.
Any person with common sense can do the math on this scenario and come to the same conclusion…
The French want all English speaking people to be bilingual while they want French ONLY.
