  1. The salary for that job is $80,000 but pays a 10% bonus for development on the gross profit from “capital projects and business opportunities secured.” The chief’s bonus worked out to be $800,000.
The band said Mr. Giesbrecht’s contract was negotiated in April. The bonus clause was removed and his chief’s salary reduced to $4,800.
    Good to see this exposed.

  2. You can thank prime minister Harper and the cpc for bringing this corruption to light – against the resistance of the opposition parties.
Anyone else notice the NP headline says he “earned ” it.

  4. Cold Great Lakes… all summer long, If it’s not warm by august, what are the chances for a warm september?
“The mid-Lake Superior buoy showed a water temperature of 39.2° when I checked on Wednesday and the east Lake Superior buoy had a water temp. of 38.3°. Here’s a look at the water temperature of Lake Michigan this year compared to recent years. Lake Superior not only is considerably colder than even 2009, but it appears to be about 20°F colder than the end of July in 2012. Lake Huron is now also colder than 2009. Here’s a five-year comparison for Lake Ontario and Lake Erie.”

  5. Good luck with that Joe, it’ll never fly,it’s common sense, it makes sense.
The Indians lay claim the all the land. The “system” is we “buy” our little plots so we can build, develop property then pay taxes to and the government which in turn tells us what we can and cannot do on or with the property. Through taxation from all we work for we are obliged to support the Indians who don’t have to pay tax on anything…earning a living is optional for them.
When we have an Indian Chief(s) making six figure salaries to oversee a reserve of less than a 100 “subjects” they’re laughing at us all. Too many moons have passed and will pass, we’ll continue to be mooned while we pay and pay as our rights are diminished.

  6. Property rights should extend to anything that you exchange for your time and effort, not just land, because the one thing that you wholly own is your own time which is traded for other goods and services and hence those goods can only belong to you. We will never see that kind of property right because it would make wealth redistribution unconstitutional which it should be anyway since there simply is no legitimate authority to redistribute what does not belong to you.
The First Nations have no right to any of the wealth generated by Western culture because it is all non-traditional wealth, i.e., wealth that would never have been created nor recognized as wealth under traditional First Nations values. We might owe them some rent if they can establish treaty rights but the wealth generated belongs solely to the wealth generators. It would be kind of like renting out retail space and forcing the retailer to give you a cut just because he is doing really well. I think that`s called extortion.

  7. Now how do we tell the “First Nations”(debatable),they have no right to any wealth generated by those who developed the land when they’re being supported by it, demanding more, and blaming us for all their problems brought on by living like slugs and too many Chiefs in name only watching it all happen? Case in point” “Chief” Spence of the Attawapiskat fiefdom where she drives a caddie and her people live in squalor? Her hunger strike was a popular event among Liberal/Left politicians, including the media party, a joke of broth and farce as they flocked to her tent in sympathy. Even Paul Martin came out of retirement to hold her hand.
With the influx of evil from the ME and the Indians we may not have much peace in this land unless we get our political leaders out of their safe holes, grow some gonads/spines and DO something to stop this dangerous, insidious trend.

  8. I went to the Calgarians for Israel rally last night at City Hall. The official head-count from Calgary Police who were there was 800 – 900 people. I’ll be curious to see if the lame-stream media mentions it or tries to minimize the head count.
The people were, as Ezra described them, “severely normal, average Calgarians”, not the professional agitators present at that same spot two weeks ago. The only object of ire or disgust was Hamas, and a lot of sympathy was expressed for the average Gazan who has to suffer under them. The rally was peaceful. We heard from a Jew, a Muslim (Tarek Fatah) and a Christian (an NDP Metis politician). Mainly, I think, people there wanted to express their support for the people of Israel defending themselves against a terrorist organization, the average Gazan who is suffering, and for the rule of law in Calgary. The cop who asked the peaceful counter protestor who was assaulted on that spot, “What did you expect when you showed up with that (Israeli) flag?” got his answer last night. We expected the rule of law to be enforced by the city police. And that point was made loud and clear.
A web site is being established where donors can contribute to fund the cost of the Iron Dome missile defence system (each ABM costs about $60,000), called “Stop the Rockets”. More details will be coming out. Participants at the rally were invited to contribute.

  9. Just in case anyone is still under the illusion that our federal PCs have any intention for soing anything on the property rights front, here is an excerpt from a letter sent to me by my (Conservative)MP on that very subject one week ago:
“As you know, we hesitate to reopen the Constitution as it will lead to endless haggling between the provinces and it will quickly become a “political” dialogue in which the average Canadian does not participate. The last two attempts to amend the Constitution were very divisive and ultimately failed.
One of the solutions presented by several speakers at the Property Rights Conference, however, were provincial initiatives, particularly those that would fairly compensate land-owners regarding use restrictions on their land. My understanding is that the law regarding compensation for the expropriation of land works well, but that there is little to protect land owners when the use of their land is restricted, often times by provincial regulations. I believe that progress can be made on the provincial level as it does not require opening the Constitution.”
Short wording: we aren’t going to raise a finger on the property rights front. His reply is all the more disappointing because, in my initial letter to him, I had specifically said that legislation – such as a Property Owners’ Protection Act – was the way to go, rather than trying constitutional reform. But he absolutely avoided that suggestion in his reply.
So, this PC promise during the 2006 campaign had all the weight and credibility as one made by Dildo McDinky.

  10. Nothing is written in stone since the stone age, even Constitutions, including the democracy destroying Trudeau Charter which would never have been signed without the Notwithstanding clause, the clause politicians and the unelected Supreme Judges treat like poison.

  11. “And that point was made loud and clear.”
I was there too, and the sound system was seriously inadequate.
My wife and I were unable to hear most of what was speechified.

  12. Potato said,”It would be kind of like renting out retail space and forcing the retailer to give you a cut just because he is doing really well.”
Well actually, that’s exactly what retailers in major malls are subjected to by their landlord.

  13. I, James MacMaster, being of (relatively) sound mind, and knowing full well that the direct and unambiguous answer I am about to give will forever ruin my chances of getting elected to public office, give you my answer: YES, that is exactly what I am saying.

  14. Well, if retailers are signing leases that include extortionist clauses then I suppose they have nobody to blame but themselves.

  15. It would just be rhetorical of me to say “I ddonn’t believe it” but Obama, in a much-touted press conference bragged how well he has done in the past 5 1/2 years and if only Congress would stop impeding him. Where was the Israel/Gaza speech?

  16. Joe Who’s Page.
    Say hello to John Who?
    …-
    “John Kerry, American Idiot?”
“It was 3 a.m. in India. While most people there were asleep, the American secretary of State, John F. Kerry, was up all night announcing yet another cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war.
He is absolutely tireless RT @shauntandon It’s 3 am in the morning in New Delhi – and @JohnKerry has announced here a 72-hour Gaza ceasefire

    Kerry’s tirelessness came to nothing.”

  18. “Now how do we tell the “First Nations”….
We start by calling them aboriginals or first immigrants, and refusing to acknowledge this “FN” political correctness. Around here “FN” refers to fucknindians.

  20. WRT the ‘FN’ expenses.
It goes deeper than just the chief’s salaries. You must also look at the total cost of their “FN’ management.
    A case in point;
The Peigan Nation in southern Alberta has a chief and 12 council members. They have about 2,400 members living on the reserve. The council also have assistants.
Extrapolate those numbers to a city like Calgary, a 2 hour drive away, and WOW.
Either the indians are scamming us or are totally FN incompetent.

  21. ” “[t]o treat people like commodities that come here for two years and serve us our coffee in the mornings. ”
The Liberal party applauds Calgary’s liberal mayor.
But from my vantage point, it appears that Nenshi is more than a bit out of touch with the reality of temporary foreign workers.

  22. “Either the indians are scamming us or are totally FN incompetent.”
It’s a mix of both on most reserves. Jobs and benefits are handed out along family lines. The chief’s stupidest relations all get high paying jobs. If your relations are in power you live OK, if they’re not yer screwed.

  23. I assume those band leader salaries are non-taxable which in the real world would mean a lot more money to get those figures.
We need to make a one time lump sum payment to every Indian and say this is it, no more forever.
