The American victims of convicted terrorist Omar Khadr are suing him for $42.5 million.
The suit was filed in a Utah court Wednesday, on behalf of Christopher Speer, the U.S. Army combat medic killed by Khadr in 2002, as well as his wife and young children, and another soldier, Layne Morris, who was injured and blinded by a grenade thrown by Khadr in Afghanistan.

That was a show trial Khadr was subjected to after being interviewed by a couple individuals later found to have committed torture. In a normal justice system Khadr would have been acquitted for that and many other rights violations. BTW trials don’t make reality.

Conrad black was found guilty but that doesn’t mean I would take his guilty verdict at face value. The US justice system is a prosecutocracy after all.

Khadr is suing the Canadian government. In the event that there is a judgement in Khadr’s favor, the Khadr victims lawsuit can intercept that money. AND for added measure, it will also mean Khadr’s lawyers will probably end up in the hole as well. Win/win.

The lawyers poised to make him a millionaire, reward him for fighting against our ally,killing one soldier/medic and injuring another, calling him a child soldier,will have to up their demands to ensure they get paid. This is where we need a show of guts from our government, lay more charges and ensure he never gets to roam our streets, they could start with treason.
It has always been my impression that Khadr cannot be singled out over the thousands of others who fought for the same cause he did. His young age makes his direct responsibility even more tenuous. Sad that an American soldier was killed by him but what about all the others who suffered the same fate? Are USA litigators searching Afganistan looking for Bin Laden’s army so they can be charged? A bit of a show isn’t it?
The only interest in Khadr is because he is in Canada. If the Canadian government had any ‘gonads’ they would have shipped the entire family back to Afganistan/Pakistan and stripped whatever Canadian papers they had. IMHO it is the parents of this kid that should suffer real retribution. Apparently his father already has.

Mrs Speer and Sgt Morris have already won in Utah civil court, a judgment against Khadr Sr for failure to control his son. They were awarded $102 against the estate of Khadr in 2006, for events of the fire fight in 2002. A second suit by Utah civil court is likely to also rule against Omar Khadr as the first court accepted events as Morris described them.
The plea bargain made with US Military stipulated that any gains Omar received from books, entertainment deals would go to
Speer’s family. It is unclear whether this would include money awarded from a Canadian court against the government.This suit is likely a preliminary step towards claiming any money Omar is thus awarded.

If they are operating on contingency and the judgement is seized, the lawyers may well be S.O.L.
As a taxpayer, I would much rather see any money go to the victims of Khadr than to Khadr and his terrorist buddies any day. In fact, as a Canadian, Khadr embarrasses me and I think Canada owes it to Speer’s widow and family for allowing scum such as the Khadrs into this country in the first place.
