  1. End of oil boom threatens Norway’s welfare model
    Reuters By Balazs Koranyi
OSLO (Reuters) – Norway’s energy boom is tailing off years ahead of expectations, exposing an economy unprepared for life after oil and threatening the long-term viability of the world’s most generous welfare model.
High spending within the sector has pushed up wages and other costs to unsustainable levels, not just for the oil and gas industry but for all sectors, and that is now acting as a drag on further energy investment. Norwegian firms outside oil have struggled to pick up the slack in what has been, for at least a decade, almost a single-track economy.
“The oil boom has ended,” Mork said. “Norway needs to rebalance to a more sustainable level, which can be done either through a nominal depreciation or through an internal devaluation of wages.
“There is no sign of willingness from unions or the government to go into any kind of discussion. This could be very dangerous because investments will go down.”

  2. It’s one of those events that’s so catastrophic that people choose to ignore it. They feel the same about asteroid strikes and large volcanic events which would also devastate the present system.

  3. The difference is that EMP protection would cost far less than converting to green energy. Priority seems to go to fight a non existing problem like global warming.

  4. TOM COTTON SAVAGES DEMOCRATS ON BENGHAZI
It’s worth watching as this vet is fed up with the D crap.

With barely controlled indignation, he ripped the Democrats’ “fake outrage” over the Benghazi investigation. Recalling the treacherous conduct of many Democrats during the Iraq war, he asked, Where was the outrage then?

  5. The Russian Government’s Human Rights Council “accidentally” posted the real results from the Crimean Referendum to leave Ukraine and join Russia. The results was 15% of the population voted to join Russia. The data was removed within several hours as it created quite a buzz in Ukraine. The following link discusses the real results versus the Moscow announced results. I picture a siberian gulag end for the person who posted this.

What comes to mind is the old Stalin Quote:
“It is enough that the people know there was an election. The people who cast the votes decide nothing. The people who count the votes decide everything.”
    Joseph Stalin
Keeping this in mind, the Security Services of Ukraine recorded conversations about the vote fixing between a member of the Donetsk People’s Republic (sounds kind of soviet) and a member of the Russian Government. The audio portion is in Russian, but the conversation is in english in the subtitles. In essence how to fix the referendum that is to occur on May 11th in Donetsk & Luhansk Oblasts in Ukraine. It is pretty damning about how Russians “fix votes” — so is Putin really that popular?

    It is brutal.
Russia has transitioned itself an imperialistic regime with dreams of expansion — it affects Canada as Canada is a member of NATO. If the Russians succeed in Ukraine, they will move further out including NATO states that once were once members of the Warsaw Pact and/or CCCP.

  6. The original link was updated. The updated information takes it from 15% to 22.5% of the population voted for joining Russia — still not a Majority by any means — if Putin was to succeed anywhere in Ukraine it was Crimea, the retirement home of Soviet apartchiks. He did so badly here says it all. The opinion polls in Donetsk says the people have no chance in hell — but as my previous post is the Russians make up their data. Yeah democracy. LoL

  8. My “four leafed clover patch” has produced five ‘new crop’ four leafed clovers already this year.
I am giving one away, I am keeping one for myself, and I plan on selling the other three.
Prices range from $500.00 Canadian to $!,500,000.00 for the other two.
If I sell the highER priced one, I intend on buying the Woodstock Ontario Disgraced Studite ClanS’ “PEACE TOWER”,

    “Cold puts cramp in crops”
“Area farmers are hoping for signs of an end to a cold, wet spring that has delayed the start of planting season.
“Everybody’s got the machinery ready,” said Kim Sytsma, a beef farmer from Athens who is the Leeds County policy advisor to the Ontario Federation of Agriculture (OFA).
“I see some people trying to work the ground and open it up so it can dry.”
In places where the soil is dry enough to plant, it may still lack the warmth to sustain new seed, especially for cold-sensitive corn and soybean.
Sytsma said one of her neighbours takes the soil temperature every day and has yet to see the necessary warmth for planting.”

  14. http://stlouis.cbslocal.com/2014/05/09/nfl-team-official-michael-sam-is-not-a-really-good-athlete/
Here are my views on Mike Sam(the gay football guy) potentially falling out of the draft.
Mike Sam is very analogous to Tim Tebow if you think about it. Both athletes were successful in college, but were identified by scouts as ‘not NFL material’. Both athletes were media stars outside of football. Both athletes were very polarizing for political reasons. Both athletes had/have large fan bases which have nothing to do with football. Both fan bases have accused Tim and Mike’s detractors as bigoted. Both athletes brought/bring their personal baggage(deserved or not) to the teams the will/did play for.
So, keeping this in mind, I’d like to throw another name into the mix: Jonny Football.
All the scouts agree that Jonny Football would be a valuable player on any NFL roster; but, his stardom outside the game is viewed by most as a deterrent, when evaluating his worth. It is common thought that Jonny football would/did slide in the draft(as Sam is doing) because of the impact he would have on the cohesion of the team(he’s bigger than the team). Nobody objects to adding Jonny’s “baggage” to the overall evaluation. In fact, it would be viewed as ‘irresponsible’ not to consider off the field issues when drafting an NFL prospect(or trading for). The difference with Jonny and Sam/Tim, is Jonny is a better player; but, he is still punished for his off the field life choices.
So, keeping this in mind, the question seems to be… is it appropriate to consider Sam’s sexuality, and what the impact of having a gay player in the locker-room will have on the teams cohesion; and as a result, impact on the teams wins vs loses? Keep in mind, that this evaluation would be different, because of different locker-room cultures.
In other words; if(and that’s a big ‘if’) a particular GM believes that Sam will hurt his teams competitiveness; should he use Sam’s sexuality as a reason NOT to draft Sam? They sure did for Tebow, with respect to his religious views.
Furthermore, by bringing an openly gay player into a football locker-room; it seems you might increase the potential for similar issues experienced by the Dolphins in the Martin/Incognito Bullying scandal. This ain’t Figure Skating.
There is little doubt that Tim Tebow was blacklisted by league GMs because of the “baggage”(constitutionally protected I might add) he carried with him. This is the calculation GMs are likely making about Sam. The question is..is it appropriate?
Or better yet: Does a GM have the right to do what he feels is best for his team IF it means discriminating against someone?
    What say you?
BTW, IMO a large number of comments at this story are disgusting.

  15. Re: People are idiots;
I guess I’ll leave it to the really smart people to figure out why saving a person who is likely an idiot would be a good thing…heh

  16. Does a GM have the right to do what he feels is best for his team IF it means discriminating against someone?
It is not discrimination if the best fit for the team is chosen, it is the GM’s obligation. That is why they earns the big bucks.
On the bright side, there is always room in the CFL for a decent wide receiver or tight end.
