First of all, I would like to make clear that I had no advance knowledge of events as they were to unfold last evening in what has become known as the “Celine Dion Incident”.
In an effort to restore balance to the universe, this evening’s Readers Tips selection comes to you live from 1978. Gentlemen – adjust your volume.
Your tips in the comments.

Whoa! I think we’ve found the missing link. It is hairy, jumps around like a monkey, has a tail and kinda looks human.
Could be River Rat, but at least he supports the NRA,is anti-commie/leftie,and loves freedom.Hollywierd didn’t get to him.
OMG I didn’t want to pile on, being short staffed last night and all,… but Celine Dion, for the love of all things good on earth.
Thanks for the Uncle Ted blast.

Is Celine Dion a worse musical entertainer than Titanic is a movie?
The mind boggles
OMG Kate et al, did I offend your sensibilities with my choice of that song?!? I actually like it and the timing of the day was perfect!!!
Can we at least agree that we prefer Ms. Dion to sing when she opens her mouth rather than talk?!? đ

Ebola in Canada-nice. Is not Justin Turdeau enough!
I went back and watched some interviews he had and you’re right. He’s definitely an OK guy. I just didn’t like the music in the video.
I voted in the Tyee poll but I was not able to see poll results. Is it just me or
Have they blocked the results.

Re: Titanic
A movie that rakes in 11 academy awards and Celine Dion who–to date–has sold a total of about 225,000,000 albums. That`s all the convincing I need for me to know that that yes–the movie and the singer were great successes.
PS: Titanic movie box office revenues (Worldwide to date) = $2,186,772,302.00
All the MSM is downplaying the spreading ebola, while focusing on the emotional Chinese who were finally told the obvious: everyone on the plane is dead.

“China Internet Funds Called Vampires Draw Calls for Rules”
“It has been labeled a âblood-sucking vampireâ by a prominent commentator on state-run television. Executives at Chinaâs largest banks have called for regulators to curb its rapid expansion.
The focus of this ire is Internet financing, specifically YuâE Bao, the fund pioneered nine months ago by Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.âs online-payment affiliate Alipay. Its ease of use, involving a few taps on a smartphone, has drawn deposits from 81 million customers, more than the population of Germany, as they chase returns higher than Chinaâs banks can offer.”

Ebola cannot be “the big one”. Symptoms appear too quickly, allowing quarantine. And it kills too efficiently, limiting spread. It is not a very successful virus that way – at least, not for causing the big pandemic.
Another inconvenient truth.
“Wind turbines only last for âhalf as long as previously thoughtâ, according to a new study. But even in their short lifespans, those turbines can do a lot of damage. Wind farms are devastating populations of rare birds and bats across the world, driving some to the point of extinction. Most environmentalists just donât want to know. Because theyâre so desperate to believe in renewable energy, theyâre in a state of denial. But the evidence suggests that, this century at least, renewables pose a far greater threat to wildlife than climate change.”

“Margaret Trudeau’s Manhattan Escapade Turns into a Stirring Plea for Freedom”
“For seven days and nights scandal had met Margaret Trudeau at every public turnâfrom a hotel in Toronto, where rumor linked her with star-stud Mick Jagger, to Whereabouts Unknown, N.Y., the supposed site for vividly imagined trysts with Mick and other Rolling Stones. Embarrassed spokesmen for her husband, Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau, 57, were plainly in the dark, and her mother seemed to fear the worst. “If she has any problems,” she told reporters, “she knows she has a home and parents and sisters who love her.”
But Canada’s irrepressible belle dame sans souci turned up soon enoughâand says now she has never felt less lost in all her 28 years. “I know it will blow minds,” Margaret says, “but I plan on finding an apartment in New York. I’ll commute to Ottawa, so I can still be Pierre Trudeau’s wife and the mother of our three childrenâbut I also want to be a working photographer.”

Titanic the movie, had some good features in it and was a technical feat for its day. Me, I’m a history buff so the century old everyday stuff was OK.
That being said the movie was over rated and has suffered overexposure to the point of insufferable irrelevance. Of course it doesn’t help that ‘King James Cameron the 1st’ is an insufferable dink.
As for the song…well one can only say that it was a good vehicle for Celine Dion’s many talented voice, which it is regardless of whether you like her style or not. I’m sure Celine is in the business to make money and she is very good at that.
I’ll also note that she walked into the studio, did the song in one take and was probably out shopping before noon. Now that takes dedication and talent.
Yes Celine Dione is the consummate professional and has the dollars to back that claim.
As for my tastes…well I can’t say as I’ve ever been motivated to buy one of her albums but I do respect her incredible success.

I did the Tyee poll. Results are typical of a liberal/socialist website populated with useful idiots who never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever think anyone of their idols can do any, or would do any, wrong.
I also noticed that, in my instance, when the poll came up there was an option regarding what Kwan should do, but the ‘yes’ spot was already entered in the Redford response section (as Colonel Klink would say, ‘verrry interesting!).
I recall commenting on Tyee stories a few years ago and they were not impressed with a conservative voice being included among the comments. Typical of the liberal/socialist mindset.
Check out the pics at the following site.

Likely all have seen them already, but note the areas above the slide. The lunatic left will scream climate change, but this is a lot simpler than that. It’s clear cutting on a slope that was already unstable. Drainage changes drastically when trees are removed and the hillside was likely super-saturated for years. Judging by the substrate it was inevitable that this was going to happen. Note the roads in the young growth above the slide. They likely acted as focused water-knives over the decades. It’s likely that logging there occurred long before housing went in, but continuing to log areas above homes is not a good idea.
BC Speaker Linda Reid:
“A return first class flight from Vancouver to Johannesburg can cost between $7,500 and $12,000, depending on the day of travel, according to Air Canada’s website. Economy flights are generally half that price.
The questions on Reid’s husband come just weeks after she was under fire for approving tens of thousands of dollars in expenses at the legislature, including a $48,000 custom computer in the chamber, almost $14,000 in new curtains and $13,449 for a new MLA TV lounge with free muffins and snacks displayed on a $733 snack rack.
Reid defended some expenses as necessary to improve wheelchair access, but politicians who are supposed to oversee legislature spending during a time of fiscal austerity criticized her for not getting approval and ultimately voted to limit her powers and force MLA approval of anything worth more than $5,000.:

O’narcissist Q&A.
Q: “Hiatt asks the rhetorical question: âdefeat can lead to defeatism, or it can lead to constructive rethinking. Which path will President Obama take after setbacks overseas?â
A: “And he provides his own answer. Neither. It will lead to complete denial and more wishful thinking.”
[O’narcissist is locked forever in his narcissist lockbox.]
“No sooner were they uttered than Hiattâs predictions appeared to come true. âDuring a press conference today in The Netherlands, ABCâs Jonathan Karl asked President Obama if he thought âMitt Romney had a pointâ when he said in 2012 that Russia was Americaâs ânumber oneâ geopolitical foe.â
But if Karl thought Obama would graciously admit to being wrong, Karl thought wrong. The president said Romney was more mistaken than ever.”

“Colby Itkowitz of the Washington Post wrote of the magnificence of Obamaâs descent on the Belgian capital. âAs President Obama and his 900-person entourage arrived in Brussels for the E.U. summit Tuesday, the Belgian capital braced for the significant expense of hosting him.â
Hosting an E.U. summit typically costs the city about âŹ500,000 ($690,000), the newspaper reports. âBut this time round, you can multiply that figure by 20,â Mayeur said.
Belgium is providing an additional 350 security personnel to protect Obama as he travels between sites. Nine U.S. helicopters and 30 armored cars will be used for an Obama visit to a World War I cemetery.
Arriving in a special plane and a special helicopter flanked by attack helicopters serves two purposes. Obama can continue to feel important and thereby transfer the buzz to low information voters watching the spectacle. Sleep well, LIVs, thereâs nothing to be afraid of but a nuke going off in New York City.”

“Enobarbus describes Queen Cleopatra
Enobarbus: I will tell you.
The barge she sat in, like a burnish’d throne,
Burned on the water: the poop was beaten gold;
Purple the sails, and so perfumed that
The winds were lovesick with them; the oars were silver,
Which to the tune of flutes kept stroke, and made
The water which they beat to follow faster,
As amorous of their strokes. For her own person,
It beggar’d all description: she did lie
In her pavilion, cloth-of-gold of tissue,
O’erpicturing that Venus where we see
The fancy outwork nature: on each side her
Stood pretty dimpled boys, like smiling Cupids,
With divers-colour’d fans, whose wind did seem
To glow the delicate cheeks which they did cool,
And what they undid did.
Agrippa: O, rare for Antony.
Enobarbus: Her gentlewomen, like the Nereides,
So many mermaids, tended her i’ th’ eyes,
And made their bends adornings. At the helm
A seeming mermaid steers: the silken tackle
Swell with the touches of those flower-soft hands
That yarely frame the office. From the barge
A strange invisible perfume hits the sense
Of the adjacent wharfs.”

“The Turning Of The Tide”
“Supporters of the CO2 driven theory of anthropogenic global warming (CAGW) are in full panic mode. The continued hiatus in global temperature increase has led to a flurry of statements denying âthe pause,â as climate scientists have named it. This new denialism even extends to international organizations like the WHO, that just recently claimed that global warming had not ceased, even though numerous organizationsâincluding Britainâs Meteorological Office, NASA, and the IPCCâhave admitted that it has. Among climate change true believers there is a scramble on to âfind the missing heatâ that would explain the pause. Strangely, among these practitioners of group think there is no consensus about the cause of the pause. At the same time, the IPCC is about to release its latest screed regarding climate change and the leaks have been flowing fast and furious, saying there is dissent in the land of consensus. This may well be the turning of the tide on the greatest scientific hoax in history.
The number varies between 15 and 17 years but there is no doubt that the climate change cabal is worried. It seems Earth’s temperature is stubbornly refusing to rise according to the demands of their computer models. Do not misunderstand, this is a big thing in climate circles. It could bring into doubt the entire house of cards that is CAGW. Even the Economist, a past cheerleader for the global warming crowd, has been forced to admit that something is rotten in climate science (see âWho pressed the pause button?â):”.
