40 Replies to “Gold”

  1. Wow that would really be something. A riot at 7am PST…but seriously, they just announced the all stars for the tournament and even though we won the gold, and Carey Price has a GAA of 0.92, the Swedish goalie is the all star goalie and our only player on the team, no disrespect to Drew Doughty, but really?

  2. Ha! Anybody else notice?
CBC performing Canadian-muslim outreach: shows 5 different locations of Canadians cheering Canada on, 4 at various bars, the other at a mosque(??!!).
Nota bene: mosque location had no women in view.

  3. CBC Radio immediately cut to a mosque so we could hear all about how the imman had told the followers to support the Canadians and how they had offered up the morning prayer to the team. How nice.

  4. Oh yeah there was at least a couple of shots of the mosque on TSN seeing as how they were running the feed from CBC…and I don’t recall seeing any shots from Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Winterpeg, Saskatoon…

  5. The CBC simply cannot help themselves.
Absolutely everything has to be connected to the leftist propaganda crap.
Find me ONE hockey team in the ENTIRE muslim world.
No women allowed to attend doesn’t seem to phase these communists.

  6. I wasn’t watching the CBC, did they show a bar in Quebec? so, 3 bars in Canada, and 1 bar in Quebec, and a mosque?
Why not a gay bar? surely the CBC knows where the gay bars are.
Why not a reserve bar/casino? surely the CBC knows where the reserve bars/casinos are.
Why does the CBC place in its hierarchy, mosques above gay bars and indian reservation bars/casinos? Why were there no women in the mosque? Did the muslim women sleep in late? Were they in the kitchen? Are the women folk not allowed in mosques? Are they not as valuable as men? How many women prayers does it take to equal a man’s prayers? Sounds like their (and I mean that in the possessive sense) women folk may have a valid Charter of Rights challenge.
and I’m beginning to doubt the CBC’s love of Canada.

  7. I wonder what Canadian city is going to host the perennial hockey riot.
    Probably none.
The rioter types weren’t even close to awake yet.

  8. Yeah, noticed that politically correct “location” as well.
    I echo @marc in c’s comments, but I would add…….
Where was the Christian church camera? The synagogue?

  9. I was very taken aback by the mosque shot, and when my wife (finally) dropped in to watch the 3rd period I kept telling her at each goal or break in the action to “Now watch …WATCH! …they’re going to show a mosque full of weirdbeards cheering on team Canada!” ……
BUT …after the second period there were NO MORE shots of the mosque!
It was replaced by a shot of the Atrium full of fans at CBC-HQ in Toronto. I suspect their switchboard melted down with calls about “a mosque?!? / no women?!? / are you goofs CRAZY or what?!?” and somebody switched out their mosque feed to quell the uprising of taxpayers.

  10. Since Smiling Jack wasn’t going to make an appearance and body check patrons to get to the camera, I never paid any attention to the “fans” shots.
    Great game btw.
Kind of missed the Russians and Americans though… not at all.

  11. Oh to be a fly on the producers wall when they debated which victim group to portray as being Canadian as maple syrup. Or perhaps there was debate; maybe they have a guide for said groups’ hierarchy…

  12. Maybe it was the little mosque on the prairie….did the Imam mention he was happy the Islamist terrorists who threatened to disrupt the Olympics were not successful?
CBC must surely have found Rob Ford in a bar in Toronto….

  13. methinks it’s all charted out. similar to this as it’s not linear, sometimes the CBC’s bum buddy the BBC reports on things like, a colored “man” dressed as a woman with a funny hat wasn’t served in good time down at the eel pie shop and although nobody asks if he’s gone there before and not paid the only reason it’s being reported today is that the “man” dressed as a woman in a funny dress is eating non halal eel pie because the halal shop nearby had a window broken last nite by fascist youth and when will the violence even stop?

  14. Let’s see; the gun law overturned, stricter citizenship requirements, the odious CUPW forced into permanent strike status and the GST reduced by 30%. Not bad! Give Harper another 4 years and the infestation of liberals, socialists and poofters currently running the CBC will be working as baristas and department store mannequins. I like to dream big.

  15. Big shout out to our Olympians — amazing performances in many disciplines.
Shaw keeps running photos on their internet marquis of Canadians cheering — and each time it includes Justin Trudeau! Not Stephen Harper, not the leader of the opposition, Thomas Mulcair, no, the most vacuous politician in Canada — Justin Trudeau. What, has Shaw got a Big Hair obsession?

  16. Actually there was a still of a church somewhere in the east showing a big screen in the church and the parishioners in the pews watching the game. I assume the sermon was between periods…

  17. The thought of having to listen to CBC’s HUghson worrying about making his own history in calling the game, plus Healy and Simpson useless comments was too much so we resorted to watch the NBC coverage. It was excellent(even Mcguire was not so bad). The play by play guy was very good he actually called the game as opposed to Hughson who engages in banter incessantly except to insert a few players names once in a while.

  18. Did you see just 4 Olympic rings painted under the ice surface, at centre ice and behind the 2 goal lines? Russians making fun of their opening ceremony goof.

  19. Come to think of it,,watching both gold medal games for the women and men, I don’t recall seeing shots of a mosque cheering for the Womens gold medal game.

  20. The CBC is acting true to form, inserting its dyed-in-sheeps’-wool ideology into what should be pure sports. If they didn’t manipulate, they wouldn’t be the CBC. They just want to be themselves. Is that so wrong?

  21. This is what every Islamist dreams about. Getting his first pair of skates in the desert. Just ask the CBC.
Frankly ship the whole CBC to Pakistan where they belong.

  22. Jim Hughson and Craig Simpson are the absolute BEST brodcast team in ANY sport. Listen to the game on NBC to get a quick feeling for how much better they are.

  23. That was the greatest hockey I have seen, or will ever see. I actually feel like there will be no sporting event better than what we saw this morning. That took the term “all star” to a totally differently level. That was epic and inspiring. Also, it represents why Harper will win in 2015.

  24. They did show a bar in Winnipeg but certainly nothing in Saskatchewan & Alberta which are by person probably the most hockey crazy parts of Canada. But I forgot, to the CBC Sask doesn’t even exist & Alberta, because it has the evil tar sands, is the place whose name we dare not mention. The scene from the mosque had me shaking my head as well. In a typical mosque the number of real hockey fans would probably fit in a mini van but its what we’ve come to expect from the oh so PC CBC.
I’ll let it go this time…..WE WON!!!!!!!!!

  25. I was happy that Hughson / Simpson got to call the game.
Remember not that many years ago, as we got deeper in the Stanley Cup playoffs, they would take it away from Hughson and give it to some prehistoric Eastern hack who sounded like he just smoked 25 cigarettes. I think his name was Bob Cole, and if it wasn’t from Montreal or Toronto, it was second class. What a clown.

  26. Good game.
What a well-done Olympics. I can’t wait to see what the Koreans will do.
Now Putin can invade Ukraine and the head-scratchers at the CBC will wonder how he could do such a thing given how lovely the games were.

  27. Interesting Tweet tonight from Jason Kenney @kenneyjason
Community centre used for Ahmadiyya Olympic party today (mainly for kids from new CDN families) is where @pmharper launched @freedomreligion
The Ahmadiyya are a persecuted minority sect, and hockey fans.

  28. CBC wrap up about the games about how wonderful the Russians are, how peaceloving, blah, blah, blah. Not a word about Urkraine burning just down the road and the probable Russian response.

  29. It was Bush’s fault the US lost!
Had they listened to Obamba and Sharpton they could have made up a USA Affirmative Action Hockey team and everyone would have been a winner.

  30. There were women at that mosque. They preferred to be in a separate room, which wasn’t (but should have been) shown on TV. There were probably at least as many women and girls as men and boys.
Re: the comment about hockey teams in Muslim countries… The climate in most of them is not as cold as it is in places like Scandinavia and Canada. So ice hockey tends not to be their national sport. They do often play field hockey there though. Regardless, the people at that mosque aren’t foreigners — they’re Canadians. For many of them, Saturday night hockey is a tradition. Many of them play hockey themselves, or go watch their kids play — girls included. In fact, there are probably more girls than boys in hockey.
As somebody else mentioned, parishioners were shown on CBC as well. I still think it was strange to see only one “different” group. Would have been nice to see a gay bar and a reserve bar/casino too.
