Americans who were recipients of means-tested government benefits in 2011 outnumbered year-round full-time workers, according to data released this month by the Census Bureau…

Turn the corner, and come to daddy:

There were 108,592,000 people in the United States in the fourth quarter of 2011 who were recipients of one or more means-tested government benefit programs, the Census Bureau said in data released this week. Meanwhile, according to the Census Bureau, there were 101,716,000 people who worked full-time year round in 2011. That included both private-sector and government workers.

It’s all good.

  1. And the real story is that only the public sector workers count – they’re holding the entire pyramid up.
Sooner or later it’s going to collapse. Probably sooner.

  2. The Producers finally figured out that it’s better to join the Indolent class.
    Jobs are passe.
Between the commute, having to show up for work, looking after your kids, painting the picket fence, mowing the lawn and then filing tax returns in April, why not get up at noon, spin on your head on a sidewalk for a while, and then partay at a club all night?
Don’t Worry, be Happy, bang on your drum all day.

  4. Over 150 million when non means tested are included. Nobody that wants to reduce the size of that government has a hope of getting elected.

  5. A, I think you mean private sector. People like the oil workers, assembly workers and the like. Not the Human Rights Commissioners, Politicians and their hangers on.

I’m sorry, but that’s really, really funny. I’m sorry only because the numbers cited above reflect a very serious issue, but…you made me laugh hard. As in, barking myself laughing.
“Spin on your head on a sidewalk for a while…”

  7. In other words, what killed any chance Mitt Romney would be elected was that he stated a fact about the number of unemployed people.
That is where we are; in an age where stating facts gets you to have your reputation and carreer destroyed by the main stream media
Obama lies every time he opens his mouth yet he is adored
Romney said the truth and he got destroyed
The MSM is worse than Marie-Antoinette and there has got to be some people who are fed up and are about to revolt.
If someday a crazy person sets bombs to shut up the main stream media I will not be surprised

  8. I hope someday that there can be a law passed that anyone who receives government assistance has no vote. It’s the only way to save democracy.

  9. …and if you have performed National Service (military or otherwise) you get 10 votes. I have never accepted the concept of universal franchise, and I now reject Western-style democracy as recklessly dangerous, and doomed to destruction.
Unlike Egypt, the US lacks a military capable of throwing Obama and his scum in jail, and restoring the country to sanity. Only a military coup can save the US now… The Chinese know it. Putin knows it. The Iranians know it, and soon Egypt, Syria, Iraq and Saudi Arabia will build nukes in response to Iran going nuclear.
Those dumbass indigent US welfare peasants have basically F****D the world…

  10. Another statistic I heard this week, which may have relevance to these welfare stats is that fully 30% of the 20-30 age group are still living with their parents – perhaps we can be thankful for this trending arrested development in our society s it could be saving us billions in welfare subsidy.

  11. The liberals and dippers are freaking out over the Fair elections act.
Claiming voter suppression. Convicts, homeless, natives, junkies who normally vote socialist don’t or can’t get “one” of 39 variety of acceptable identification. These politicians want a dependent population just like in the States.
We “need” the CPC to win again in 2015 or face the same fate.

  12. Just another sign on the road to destruction.
Now that the non-contributors out number the contributors the fall of the American empire is near.
As the hug a coyote crowd loves to say “that’s unsustainable”

  13. You’re right, of course – that’s what I meant. Been sick lately and not getting enough sleep -.-

  14. From my privileged perch (not apologetic; I earned it) it is my optimistic thinking the post Baby-Boomer generations, which have not had as much indolence instructions as (we think) will reinvent security expectations.
This will become evident when the (earned it easily) privileged perch sitters have either died off or become ga ga in sufficient numbers to no longer be a comfortable and reliable voting bloc. Then the perception of needs will change.
    At least for a while. Cheers;

  15. I am pessimistic about the near term prospects for the USA. Within this year there will be a massive default by many cities followed by the feds and the food stamps, etc. programs will cease to exist. Then the “fun” starts.

  16. Yep……the Chinese have loaned the yanks a whack o dough to maintain their largest market…..like OPEC keeping the price o Oil to maintain their market…..but sooner rather than later it will occur to them, that they are really sending good money after bad….and say……..NO MORE…….

  17. Meanwhile in Canada on the left side of the aisle we have the “Hair” apparent in the Liberal party launching his bid to ruin this country at the next election with his astute proclamation that ‘the budget will balance itself’ and the Bearded one claiming that we don’t need to extract and export the oil from the ‘tar sands’ to make cheap energy, he’d like to see us all “freeze in the dark” to coin a phrase. If you all think that America is hooped wait till you see who the LIV in Canada elect in the 2015. The MSM will go all out to eviscerate the Harper government over the next year and the LIV will eat up whatever is thrown at them.

  18. Honestly, it isn’t the media’s fault. You still have a vote.
If people are so dumb that they believe what the MSM tell them, and vote accordingly, then F**K ‘EM, they got it comin’, right up the kyster!
