One of the Met Office’s most senior experts yesterday made a dramatic intervention in the climate change debate by insisting there is no link between the storms that have battered Britain and global warming.
Mat Collins, a Professor in climate systems at Exeter University, said the storms have been driven by the jet stream – the high-speed current of air that girdles the globe – which has been ‘stuck’ further south than usual.
Professor Collins told The Mail on Sunday: ‘There is no evidence that global warming can cause the jet stream to get stuck in the way it has this winter. If this is due to climate change, it is outside our knowledge.’
His statement carries particular significance because he is an internationally acknowledged expert on climate computer models and forecasts, and his university post is jointly funded by the Met Office.
Prof Collins is also a senior adviser – a ‘co-ordinating lead author’ – for the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). His statement appears to contradict Met Office chief scientist Dame Julia Slingo.

Professor Collins is a brave man. The knives will be out to get him.
It is interesting that increasingly prominent deniers/skeptics are becoming more vocal, while the AGW/Marxist crowd are becoming more idiotic in their misinformation.
Kerry’s speech in Indonesia is incomprehensible. What, exactly is he trying to achieve? First, weather it’s not in his bailiwick. But, also, he’s setting himself up for all the poor world’s leaders to tap him for reparations, er … money, for the crime of producing CO2 and causing all that bad weather.
Mind you, good for Swiss banks.
How long before he’s pressured into recanting?
At best he’ll be in for a very severe job performance review but more likely he’ll be fired within a couple of months. He should be respected for standing up and telling the truth. What he has done took a lot of courage and I’m sure he knows what he is in for as a consequence of his courage.
That may be the plan. I believe Obama’s hidden agenda is to bankrupt the US. Supporting the global warming agenda gives good cover for this.

Yesterday on twitter prof. Colin’s indicated that he would be clarifying his statement in conjunction with the Met Office. I shouldn’t prejudge the statement but perhaps like Galileo the Inquisitors took him on a tour to view the instruments of his torture. Or, in fiction, Orwell’s Room 101.
Whatever the clarification is I’m sure it will be both nuanced and robust in it’s non answers regarding the connection between CAGW, The Pause and extreme weather.
But if you have no yesterday, everything is unprecedented.

What Kerry did took a lot of courage, robw? On the topic of global warming/climate change, the stance he took is the safest. No courage required at all for that. causes it. Too many storms, to few storms. Too hot, too cold.
Too many hurricanes, too few hurricanes. Once the predicted
temperature increase failed to materialize, they changed
the term to “Climate change” so that cold weather could be
said to cause this imaginary warming.

No rational person believes that human activities are causing global warming. There’s no need to make outlandish statements, we know it’s true.
Britain has also had some torrential rain that was blamed on climate change. Heavy rain is not unusual for Britain but some serious flooding resulted this time. The actual blame was not climate change, but negligence, to the dismay of the warmists.
