  1. Mark Levin spoke of this today.
100% coverage. Perhaps those watching over conservative groups should go into the health insurance industry?
Mark remained about as calm as possible regarding this.
Stalinist. Well yes. Not in people killed of course, Stalin didn’t “just” kill people … but in the monitoring of people, yes.

  2. The rainbow has become the liberal left’s symbol for the gratuitous fake tolerance they love to display by pandering to a minority group identified solely by their unusual sexual proclivities.
It’s particularly inappropriate when elected officials do it at a government building. Unfortunately that’s what politicians do.

  3. A Tory MP says the federal Liberals are concealing plans to re-instate a version of the abolished long-gun registry.
However, the new rules would be even more strict than the ones Conservatives abolished in 2012, Alberta MP Blaine Calkins said.
Calkins told QMI Agency on Thursday that the Liberals are set to debate a motion at their convention next week asking the party to create an Australian-type national gun policy.
Australia’s strict gun laws, introduced in 1996, ban all semi-automatics and force any prospective firearm owner to provide the government with a “genuine reason” for ownership. The law even applies to paintball guns.

  4. http://www.thestar.com/news/world/2014/02/12/car_killings_amount_to_ethnic_cleansing_says_amnesty.html
“Amnesty International is warning that the crisis in the Central African Republic is a ‘tragedy of historic proportions’ and the torture and killing of Muslims amounts to widespread ‘ethnic cleansing’.”
“Human Rights Watch also issued a report Wednesday that chronicled the ‘relentless wave of co-ordinated violence’ carried out by Christian militias seeking revenge for last year’s horrific abuses by the predominantly Muslim Seleka rebel group.”
“… the current crisis began a year ago after the Seleka, a coalition of most Muslim rebels, ousted then-president François Bozize.”
“In the months that followed, Seleka fighters suppressed the country’s majority Christian population with widespread rape, torture, extrajudicial killings, giving rise to Christian vigilantism.”
So when were these “horrific abuses” including “widespread rape, torture, extrajudicial killings” reported in the Star?
Did Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch condemn those atrocities too? If so, was that reported in the Star?
There are several recent articles about the C.A.R. situation on the Star’s website, but few if any prior to around November.
Meanwhile, the Globe and Mail ran a story dated March 25 on the rebels’ takeover, but it too apparently didn’t report on subsequent atrocities until the Christian victims started to fight back.
It seems undeniable that the revenge has been brutal, and that innocent lives have been lost on all sides. But why are the major newspapers only reporting it when one side commits the atrocities?

  5. Globe and Mail, Monday, Feb. 10.

In Coquitlam, B. C., “… the popular pub may have served alcohol after the 2 a.m. cut off” to Rob Ford and co.
Too bad there wasn’t a film festival in town, in that case the worthless bureaucrats would push closing time back to 4 a.m. for the foreign dignitaries and VIPs, and all would be forgiven. Rob Ford just wasn’t important enough to obtain that privilege.
It’s really only about pushing people around and putting bureaucratic bums in seats.

  6. National Post, Wed., Feb. 12. Peter Clutterbuck, who is “community planning consultant with the Social Planning Network of Ontario and provides coordinating support to the Poverty Free Ontario cross-community network”, trots out every vapid leftist cliché in the book used to pull the wool over people’s eyes and divert them from their proper course of individualism.
    http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2014/02/11/peter-clutterbuck-budgets-should-help-citizens-not-just-taxpayers/
PC: “… the tax system [] seems to have replaced all other forms of government support in the last decade or so. Our relationship to government is increasingly becoming more like a one-to-one banking transaction. The notion of a nationally defined public good designed and provided for the people as a collective is quickly disappearing.”
The purpose of government is to protect individual rights, so why would we want a “relationship to government” if we’re going about our business peacefully? No one has a “relationship to government” more so than an inmate.
Governments spend billions on “social services” every year, with few if any studies done to find out whether they’re successful. But there is nothing that can “provide for people as a collective”. People are individuals first, and those pious frauds who lionize the collective are looking for control over people that they are not entitled to have.
PC: “‘Tax cutting’ becomes the constant political mantra, which results in draining the public treasury of any capacity to design and implement national programs. We have come to define our political identity as ‘taxpayers’, which inevitably focuses us strictly on our own and our family’s economic self-interest. The more we identify only or primarily as taxpayers, the more we diminish our shared bond of citizenship in this society.”
Our own and our family’s economic self-interest is what our focus should be on. Clowns like the author of this article are constantly trying to scare people into believing that there are evil forces about that can ruin a family’s life, and that can only be forestalled with “social programs”. Other than perhaps ill health and medicare, this isn’t true. Unemployment, for example, is caused by government intervention in the labour market, and there would be no need for E. I. if governments would back off.
If you want to design a program to help the needy through voluntary charity, feel free to do so. And learn the benefits of laissez-faire capitalism while you’re at it.
As for the “shared bond of citizenship”, there are 35 million people in Canada, and I probably know a few hundred of them. We live in the same geographical area. That’s the extent of the “shared bond” right there.
PC: “Pooling our tax capacity for national health and social programs makes us a more equitable and inclusive society.”
More buzzword-laden drivel. Societies are collections of individuals, that don’t need to be “equitable”. And everyone who lives here is automatically “included”, if that concept has any meaning.
Why wasn’t this trash tagged as “Counterpoint”?
Remember: to the left, a “citizen” is a person who, when the government says “Jump!”, answers, “How high?” It’s a person who pays and pays and never asks questions about where the money is going, because that would make him a Bad Citizen.

  8. See how advanced we are here in North America? In France, they have to import “yutes” of indeterminate national origin to set their cars on fire for their car-b-ques, but here, our cars automatically self-ignite.

  9. Socialism’s natural end result: a Hindenburg* disaster/collapse.
    “So it was in Venezuela.”

    “Postmortem”
“The suddenness of Venezuela’s collapse should have come as no surprise because downfalls are inherently abrupt. Collapse is a phase change. One moment something is sailing along fat, dumb and happy and the next moment it is sinking beneath the waves. The change from two to one is a loss of 50%; but the change from one to zero is binary.
    So it was in Venezuela.”

  10. Some praise for Budget 2014 from an unlikely source.
“The substantial investment in university research that the Canadian government announced today is not the only story in Budget 2014. A bigger story may be the pivotal moment and the policy shift that it represents for this government on a research and innovation front, where it had been on the defensive.”

  11. From the pjmedia article linked by maz2, “The genius of the Left — Chavez’s for example — is that it destroys things from the inside out. They pervert religion, collapse the mores, abolish the family, shred the constitution and gradually expropriate the property. The differences from one day to the next are apparently imperceptible, but it is harder and harder to go back until finally there is no reversal of ‘progressive gains’ possible at all. The public is finally faced with the stark choice between chaos or authoritarianism. And most people will chose the Boss over the Mob.”
It almost seems as if the left relishes the thought of this happening.
I do not recall such a well put brief synopsis before.
This is more or less exactly what happened to Russia 1917-1926. It has happened elsewhere and the symptoms in many areas are quite advanced in the US and Canada.

  12. Justin Trudeau logs out of twitter:

#CPC backpedaling on income splitting, the central promise of their 2011 campaign. Canadians deserve leadership on the economy.
    @allan5oh 22m
@JustinTrudeau What is your position on income splitting again?

  13. That Sun News is so biased.
    Always kissing PM Harper’s behind.
Well, the truth is not quite like the media party’s version of what they feed to Canadians. Brian Lilley rips the PM to shreds over income splitting.
The MSM would fire anyone, and issue aplologies if any of their people even came close to this ‘by-line’ that Mr. Lilley out out today. I can not imagine a CBC trporter even thinking along these lines about the shiny pony, let alone actually saying it in front of a camera. It would not happen.
I do not agree with Lilley’s take on the tax break, but it is good to see someone call out a politician for playing politics.

  14. Wonderful imagery for car buffs & I note that Beverley Hills in 1935 had incredible road ways. I’m sure the surface finish is superior to what we have in Manitoba today. Oh yes, this was Pre- NDP.
