Tonight we watch, and listen to, the original – and unaired – Bonanza theme song as sung by the Cartwrights themselves in the pilot episode. It’s all a bit….off-kilter, somehow.
Don’t worry about Dan Blocker’s horse; I’m sure he was fine after a little liniment and a rubdown.

Consuming too much sugar can increase the risk of premature death from heart disease, a finding that is fuelling calls for the Canadian and U.S. governments to offer dietary limits on sugar.

Do meddlesome governments have a right to tell people they can’t kill themselves with junk food?
If taxpayers are paying for universal health care, then shouldn’t we let the stupid people who willingly poison themselves with junk food, just die when they get terminally ill from consuming it all their lives. Maybe give them a taxpayer funded morphine drip, to be kind.

Brought back good memories.I recall the Chevrolet ads. They were as much a part of the show as the Cartwright family.

… and if you’ve watched Bonanza, I can tell you that the trek from the ranch house to Virginia City would take a little more than a day to make on horseback.
It’s about an hour+ drive of some 40 miles from Incline Village, NV to Virginia City, NV.. Up the mountain, down the mountain, across the valley and up the mountain, then down the mountain…
First TV show I ever saw in color.
Back to the original subject, the lyrics to the well-known theme song of Bonanza. Little-known fact: Lorne Greene performs the song on the B side of his ’60s pop hit, “Ringo,” with substantially more lyrics.

Those that fail to read history are doomed to repeat it. Came across this piece in the NY Times from Feb 5, 1944, decribing how fairly-minded Dems wanted to take back control of their party. Can’t help but feel how eerly similar his words decribe the situation then – and now.

Anti-New Deal Democrats Unites Under Woodring to Regain Party
Chicago. Feb 4. – Harry Woodring, Secretary of War in the Roosevelt cabinet until 1940, today declared his opposition to a fourth term for President Roosevelt and proposed that the party nominate Secretary of State Cordell Hull for the Presidency.
[snip]
“Today Americans are sorely burdened with fear, restraints, and laws of overlords; a tyranny just as vicious just as deadly in its withering effect upon their freedoms, their liberty as was ever suffered by the colonists” he said.
“I refer to none of the sacrifices and denials of material things needed in the war effort which all of us willingly and wholeheartedly approve and respect.
“I refer to those sinister plans, regimentation and ideologies of a group of idealistic, misguided, impractical socially minded, so-called intellectuals – the Palace Guard!
“I refer to that group that believes our American democracy has failed, that believes America needs making over. The thinker-uppers of social and economic ideas and schemes so widely propagated as ideals, which are, in fact, the very doctrines from which foreign tyrannies have sprung, the very ideologies we now are at war to destroy!
“Today, there has grown up in America a fear, a resentment against this group expressed in a revolt at the polls, a resentment that is being expressed against the Democratic party, a revolt that has brought defeat after defeat since 1940.”
In calling for a “reunited Democratic party under the leadership of 1932”, Mr Woodring explained he meant James A Farley, campaign manager for the party if that year. Then we made his proposal that Mr Hull be the nominee.

If it was never aired, how come I remember it from 20+ years ago?
I met a lady who worked on the show. She said Dan Blocker was a great gentleman. Couldn’t say enough nice things about him.
Someone in the comments explained that the clip was aired years later on a retrospective look back at the show and its production, actors, origins, etc., and has been aired since.
Perhaps I should have said “not aired as part of the original series” or “not used during the original run of the series.”

“Press for a ‘Climate Scientist Who Got It Right’”
“(CNSNews.com) – Dr. Don Easterbrook – a climate scientist and glacier expert from Washington State who correctly predicted back in 2000 that the Earth was entering a cooling phase – says to expect colder temperatures for at least the next two decades.
Easterbrook’s predictions were “right on the money” seven years before Al Gore and the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize for warning that the Earth was facing catastrophic warming caused by rising levels of carbon dioxide, which Gore called a “planetary emergency.””
