Reader Tips

In our Saturday night entertainment en route to the tips we listen to Scottish singer and guitarist Edwyn Collins’ biggest hit, a song with a guitar riff so simple and catchy that it essentially serves as the chorus of the song. From 1994, here’s A Girl Like You.
We are not responsible for any injuries if you decide to dance along at home.

  1. @EBD….I was wondering why National Newswatch was flooding its site with CBC and CP stories. It has gone over to the dark side.

  2. Supporters of the murderous communists are still spreading their vile ideology.

One of my cousins in Ontario has some faith based friends in Ukraine, and has sent me copies of emails that he received on 30 and 31 January about how the government treats and has been treating some people. The relevant portions appear below.
    “Greetings friends. (January 30)
You may have some info about situation from our country. And u may wonder what is happening in Ukraine and why?
Let me give you my point of view a simple Ukrainian citizen.
We are on the process of registering land for the new church in Molochansk; this is second year as we are trying to accomplish it. And we don’t see the end. We need to collect huge number of absolutely useless documents. Often clerks openly ask for bribes. And this is only one area. Medicines, education as well as other areas in our country are in total mess. Our people daily face such attitudes from the government, and see no improvements. This is not surprising that people became angry.
Many of my personal friends lose their businesses, not because they are poor managers, but because of unrealistic taxes and other government regulations. Only by Gods huge grace our business still exists.
People are definitely tired, they have nothing to lose. Total poverty in the villages and unrealistic wealth of several pro-government families, brought people on the streets.
People understand, if they give up now, our country turn to the dictatorship regime, which will depress freedom of word, and other democratic rights.
I am glad that denominations and churches united in decision to pray and insist on peaceful solution of this situation.
With love in Christ, from the cold, and at the same time “hot» Ukraine.
    Your brother, Andrei.”

    “Greetings.
Although many negative things are happening in Ukraine, there are many positive news too. I was deeply touched to learn, that many doctors and nurses throughout Ukraine, taking vocations on their account and go to Kiev to look after many wounded and ill people.
Every day people bring food, winter clothing, medications to the places where people protests.
Several European countries are ready to receive seriously wounded people for the free treatment. Poland prepared special airplane and ready to take as many people as they can for the treatment.
Several people are already in Latvia.
Many consciousness police officers, judges and others resign from their work, explaining that they cannot fight against people. Judges say that they are under heavy pressure from the pro-government people. It means that our courts are not independent, and anyone “unworthy” can get to the prison.”

  3. Yes — they stated that. Not enough –they should dump the guy. His commentary is totally biased.

  4. Good response from the Canadian government on the Ukraine. I am increasing convinced that our government is motivated by principle — a rare thing these days.

  5. Exactly. Putin threatening Ukraine is nothing new. The threats and actions of some sort against Ukraine, Ukrainians, specifically western Ukraine, have been going on for hundreds of years. Tsars, Tsarinas, First Secretaries, and now post Soviet presidents have all done this. This time at least it appears Poland is standing up for Ukraine rather than assisting in the kill.
I have been reading this paper off and on for a few years and it had better watch its back.

  6. And Paul wells is on very friendly terms with Jt and his wife – if the happy picture posted on this blog several months back is anything to go by.

  8. Yes, National Newswatch has been a blatantly anti-Conservative, pro-Liberal site for a long time now. I occasionally check it out just to see what the latest fabricated Conservative “outrage” or “scandal” is – seems like there’s a new one every day.

  9. Sent this to Swackhammer.
I was reading this article on the sad state of Ontario’s math skills and literacy when I read your comment. ETFO first vice-president Susan Swackhammer said “there has been so much money, resources and time put into improving literacy at the expense of everything else “We now don’t have recesses and lunch time all over this province, we have balanced days so we can have 100-minute literacy blocks,” said Swackhammer. “If you put all of your eggs in one basket, then you can’t be surprised when some of your baskets have half.”
Being of the old school of math I struggle with what is taught by you today. Please help me understand if you put ALL your eggs in one basket you would still have some left over to half fill other baskets.

  10. I check out NN every day,One should always be aware of what the enemy is saying, thinking, and doing. Same reason I watch CBC a couple of times per week.
I have visited NN for years, and I can’t recall a time it was EVER not anti-Conservative/conservative. Bourque is the same.

  11. “I can’t recall a time (NNW) was EVER not anti-Conservative-conservative.”

A commenter on Kate’s CBC thread (with the fishbowl photo) says that the “At Issue” commenter whose daughter works for Justin Trudeau is also the co-owner, along with his brother, of National Newswatch — which would go a long way to explaining why it’s got that stale-dated, GTA-centric, OPG/PPG-Liberal-fossil taint all over it.
I agree with you about Bourque, too. It’s almost as if he sells his headlines, or something..
