  1. BCF: Jabhat al-Nusra militants are attacking the Cherubim monastery north of Damascus in Syria, aiming to destroy the “idolatrous” status of Jesus.

  2. Excuse me while I jump up and down, punch my fist in the air, and scream “Yeee-haaw!”:

More Canadians now favour privatizing CBC, Canada Post and Via Rail than favour keeping the Crown corporations in public hands.

A poll of 1,996 Canadians by Abacus Data found that 45% of those surveyed support or strongly support selling CBC compared to 34% who opposed the move, while 21% were undecided.

    Later in Brian Lilley’s report,

A previous Abacus poll on privatizing CBC found just 33% backed selling off the state broadcaster. This latest poll shows a 12% jump in support and it too crosses party lines. Fully 63% of self-identified Conservative voters back privatizing CBC..”

    Here’s the amazing part:

More Liberals backed privatization than opposed it, 45% versus 39%, and New Democrats were split with 44% supporting privatization and 45% opposing.

Highly encouraging news. So much for conventional wisdom.

There’s a good aerial-view photo at the link showing the boulder’s path, including its final resting point some distance away from the wreckage.

  5. Leftist twit Laurie Pennie, whose self-obsessed tweets are regularly featured in David Thompson’s “Agonies of the Left” series, has typed out an article in the New Statesman: “Why patriarchy fears the scissors.”
    Excerpt:

Wearing your hair short, or making any other personal life choice that works against the imperative to be as conventionally attractive and appealing to patriarchy as possible, is a political statement. And the threat that if we don’t behave, if we don’t play the game, we will end up alone and unloved is still a strategy of control.

That’s always been my strategy. I can’t even count the number of women I’ve threatened and controlled by telling them that they’ll either have to play the game with their….hair, or they’ll end up alone and unloved.

“Nonetheless, parliamentarians couldn’t settle on a name for the exiled senators on Wednesday.
“We all are members of the Liberal Party of Canada, and we’re all senators, so we’re Liberal senators,” Senator Joseph Day, appointed by Jean Chretien in 2001, said.
“I will remain an independent Liberal senator. You can do that,” Senator Jim Munson told reporters, adding: “There may be senators who feel much more comfortable now sitting as an independent, independent senator, without any hyphens or names to it.”
“We’re calling ourselves Liberal senators,” added Senator Marie-P. Charette Poulin, appointed in 1995, said after what she called an “interesting day.”
“I’m still a Liberal senator, not independent. I’m still a Liberal senator, but now we work within our own Liberal Senate Caucus,” said Mobina Jaffer, a B.C. senator appointed in 2001.
“For the time being, I’m a Liberal senator in the Senate caucus,” another Chretien appointee, Senator Pierrette Ringuette, said. Senator Wilfred P. Moore agreed (“We’re all still Liberal senators”) as did Jane Cordy (“We will be sitting as Liberal Senators”).”

“Investments in renewable energy were supposed to be a sure thing, with wind park operators promising annual returns of up to 20 percent. More often than not, however, such pledges have been illusory — and many investors have lost their principal to boot.”

  9. You have to get right to the very end of the article to really understand what is going on here.
    http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/01/30/ontarios-minimum-wage-to-rise-to-11-an-hour-this-june-an-increase-of-75-cents-an-hour/
A study last fall by the Wellesley Institute, a Toronto-based research organization, showed the number of minimum wage workers in Ontario more than doubled since the Liberals came to power in 2003 to 9% of the workforce in 2011, or 464,000 people.
Young people used to make up the bulk of minimum wage workers, but the data show that by 2011, nearly 40% were 25 or older.
Baffles the mind how a government could play such a significant part in the disabling of an economy and then get away with acting like they are doing something to help out.

  10. Regarding the Politics of Hair.
The article is BS! Views about what is ‘nice hair’ and what isn’t is not arbitrary, as suggested; it just is. Some races have more lush, full and shiny hair than others. This is not an issue of “White Supremecy” as Indians, both North American and Asian typically both put white people’s hair to shame. Heck, my daughter always comments on how “beautiful the Latina girl’s hairs are at school”.
Here is the bottom line(typically speaking):
Black people – big penis’, big booties, bad hair, good athletes, can’t swim, good dancers
Asian people – small penis’, small booties, bad hair, big brains, good at kung fu, not good at sports, can’t dance
White people – average penis, average booties, average hair, average brains, average athletes, good swimmers, average dancers
I think Eddie Murphy already dealt with this issue.

“Hint of cracks in Liberal party’s united front as senators push back”
“OTTAWA — They’re Liberal senators — and there’s nothing Justin Trudeau can do about it.
The group of senators jettisoned from his caucus this week pushed back against the Liberal leader Thursday, saying he couldn’t stop any of them from calling themselves Liberals.
“Justin Trudeau has no authority or authorization to determine my status in the chamber. I determine that,” said Sen. George Furey.
Sen. Terry Mercer, a former party president, was blunt: ”Mr. Trudeau removed me from the Liberal caucus. He didn’t remove me from the Liberal party.””
