  1. Watched speech via SNN. Headline read Harper get standing ovation.
Meanwhile over at the CBC the headline is “Harper heckled during speech to Knesset”.
Watching the CBC turn themselves into pretzels trying not to criticize Harpers speech while showing the ovation, which is frowned upon BTW.
Will be watching Evan Solomon to see how far the anti semites will go on network TV.
    Great speech by our PM.

  2. Fantastic speech by Harper. How is it that a man can have the guts to make a speech like that, yet he is so afraid of the the loonie environmentalists that he will do something as idiotic as ban 100W light bulbs?

  3. Heh, doesn’t matter what he says, the Jews will vote socialist anyhow…
Sweet and bitter water doesn’t come from the same spring.

  4. Or, BC, how does he at the same time announce $60 million for the PA, which makes it very plain, in Arabic, that it wants to wipe Israel off the face of the map. Why does he contaminate this noble gesture with borrowed taxpayer money for proven mass murderers and serial killers. WTF?!
That said, having been a staunch Israel supporter since June 1967 at the advancesd age of 18, I’m extremely proud of Harper’s courageous and uncompromising support of Israel.
I saw Caroline Glick speak in Vancouver and man did she love Canada!!
OTOH, maybe it’s not that politically courageous; after all, I think the majority of the non-crust unwashed correctly and instinctually support Israel against these vicious murderous jihadists.

  5. stradivarious emoted, “the Jews will vote socialist anyhow”
You’re wrong. Last election 52% voted CPC, 24% Liberal and 16% NDP.

  6. I predict a flood of new material for the ongoing “Scratch a Leftist” series to be generated.

  7. I watched the speech on SNN. Good for PM Harper.
Yes, the light bulb ban rankles me also, but then, we have a great supply on hand. Might even be able to will some of them to our children.

  8. “Why does he contaminate this noble gesture with borrowed taxpayer money for proven mass murderers and serial killers.”
“How is it that a man can have the guts to make a speech like that, yet he is so afraid of the loonie environmentalists that he will do something as idiotic as ban 100W light bulbs?”
    Talk is cheap.
It isn’t what politicians say, it’s what they do that counts.
Obama is the ultimate politician, saying one thing and doing another.
They all do it, even Harper.
Pay attention to what they DO.

  9. Coverage on CBC was interesting. First, it didn’t play the full speech, only excerpts. Second, most of the coverage was provided by Sasa Petricic’s opinions. He was visibly uncomfortable, concentrating almost completely on the heckling and the Euro denial of their anti-Semitism. He also made no mention of shared values, but interestingly didn’t mention the word “apartheid” which he’s used before. Perhaps he didn’t want to go their because Harper already made it clear in his speech just how twisted such a label was, and the CBC didn’t want to do anything to draw attention to what they hadn’t covered.

  10. They came for the Jews, I did nothing because I was not a Jew.
They again came for the Jews, I again did nothing, I was not a Jew.
They came for me, I told them I was not a Jew, they smiled …
PMSH was spot on when he called the support of Israel a moral issue, an issue that will have inplications for the whole world.

  11. I went to the CBC site to gander at their coverage.
    Nothing on the “Canada” page.
    But on both the “world” page and the “politics” page, the featured article is;
Ahmad Tibi: Why I walked out on Stephen Harper’s speech
    FIRE THEM ALL.

  12. ctv.ca actually has more anti-PMSH slant than cbc.ca on this. Of course they are focussing on the two hecklers.
Lost on all of them in this is that Israel is a democracy. Try heckling the leadership in any other middle eastern state, see what happens…
Why would journalists, of all people, not embrace societies that promote journalistic and other freedoms? Oh yeah, real journalism is dead.

  13. That’s because PM Harper called them out on their ‘moral relativism and equivalency’; which at root goes to the anti-semitism disguised as “Iraeli apartheid” and the pretentiousness of certain UN actors who think every week is ‘beat up on Israel week’.
The CEEB can get stuffed, they are on the margins and they know it…but won’t admit it.

  14. It matters to me that my country is a friend to Israel because Israel is amongst the civilised and democratic countries of the world and because Israel’s enemies tend to be opposed to what is good in the Canadian way of life. So PM Harper’s leadership is a factor that I consider in my decisions to vote for the party he leads. I’m neither religiously nor ethnically Jewish.

  15. PM Harper did a very commendable job with his speech in the Knesset. He demonstrated his steadfastness while the heckling went on too. He’s had valuable experience and a thickened skin from his times in the Canadian HOC, enduring the mindless onslaughts of the dunderhead opposition parties.

  16. Brilliant speech by Harper at the Israeli Knesset. He highlighted the danger we face from muslims several times.
“The truth that Canada understands is that many of the hostile forces Israel faces are faced by all western nations. And Israel faces them for many of the same reasons we face them. You just happen to be a lot closer to them. Of course, no nation is perfect. But neither Israel’s existence nor its policies are responsible for the instability in the Middle East today.”

  17. We may be able to support Israel morally but since we have no Army, Navy or Airforce to speak of, what they really need is support from the USA and that seems unlikely since Obama seems to dislike Israel despite his soothing words to the contrary. His Muslim preference keeps showing through. If Israel goes to war over Iran they will do it alone and that is still a most likely scenario over the next 12 months. All Canada can do is cheer them on. 7 million Israelites surrounded by 125 million Arabs taking on over 70 million Iranians does not bode well for the only democracy in the middle east. All we can do is watch and wait for the outcome. Wont be pretty and moral support wont be worth much. Hope I’m wrong and Obama gets tossed out before Iran proudly displays their nuclear arsenal and the ship hits the fan.

  18. Is there irony in getting heckled in the Israeli Parliament by something not known in the Arab world – an elected Arab. He was saying that Israel was not similar to Apartheid South Africa and the Arabs jeered to prove his point.

  19. Here’s some Sultan Knish on the twilight of Israel.
When you read this you’ll come smack up against what a bitter disappointment Netanyahu has been and be able to unsentimentally acknowledge that, grand gesture notwithstanding, Harper’s tour doesn’t and won’t amount to a hill of beans. Oh, and again, he’s borrowing $60 million to give to the PA genocidaires.
    http://sultanknish.blogspot.ca/2014/01/jerusalem-in-twilight.html

Israel has military experts and economic experts and both groups are talented and capable, but they lack the combination of vision and determination that makes for leadership. There are too many Netanyahus, smart and competent men, who know what needs to be done and lack the determination to do it, and there are too many Sharons, who have the strength and determination, but not the wisdom. This is not an usual state of affairs in human history, but Israel cannot afford to exist in twilight, going along with the flow until something changes. If it were in a peaceful part of the world, if its people were not murderously hated by billions, if it were not constantly at war, it could move through an undistinguished prosperity without worry or doubt; but that is not its fate. The Jewish State cannot persist in twilight. It will either fall into the darkness of an old night or step into the light of a new day.

  20. how is it that a “man” is smart enough to post on a blog, and then proves his ineptness as you just did in that post. What do 100 watt light bulbs have to do with any thing in this discussion? Now as to answer your stupid question, there MAY be several reasons for his doing so, one being the reduced demand on the grid (it’s cheaper to reduce demand than it is to up grade the grid), two, he’s throwing the hyenas a diversionary bone, three, to confuse fools, now if you want more reasons, fabricate them yourselves!!!

  21. Thank you Mr. Harper:
i listend to the speech on Sun News this morning, made me proud to be canadian.
i also liked the way he handled those hecklers.
We are blessed to have this man for a prim minister.
he isn’t perfect, but he’s miles ahead of the competition.
and i might add, miles ahead of that dufuss south of the border as well.
i think i’ll put another cheque in the mail….that was worth it!

  22. Smooth Stradavarius, start with a generalization provably false, get corrected, and instead of a silent mea culpa and moving on to the next thread, you double down on stupid.
Now, I wonder where it is that the left gets the generalization of the right that we’re a bunch of blow-hard twits? Probably the same place you got yours…fear.

  23. It doesn’t matter what the topic or fats are … little violin and his ilk will just keep making noise and calling it music.

  24. I ask silently to myself if he didn’t make a big splash of this partly to show up the anti-Canadian south of the border.

  25. A brilliant speech by PM Harper to the Knesset, punctuated by his steadfast sticking to the theme of peace, morality, and the right of Israel to exist. He also demonstrated a deftness in carrying through his message with stalwart determination, in spite of a couple of rowdy hecklers. No doubt this was a small potatoes aggravation compared to the roguish banter he’s endured in the Canadian HOC, with the likes of the oppositions’ cronies extreme audio belligerence. He kept his cool really well, and stayed on-course, as is his winning way.

  26. Oz may I correct you:
Obama is the ultimate politician, saying anything and doing nothing.

  27. At last look PMSH’s visit and speech are being ignored by American media, even Drudge and Fox.

  28. Robert, I’m harbouring similar feelings, although a bit more complex.
    1) the politics of the region; there is a reason that smart pols like Harper had our UN ambassador leave during ImaDinnerJacket’s speeches. They would be misrepresented in Iran, along the lines of, “Western leaders in rapt attention as the Grand Poobah spoke.” So, this was Harper playing politics of the region. Remember, he went to the PA first, and gave money. That was the tit-for-tat that allowed Netanyahu to play the game too and have a Western leader unequivically support Israel.
    2) Iran got the message from Obama via Harper. Soft-diplomacy.
    3) Harper tailored that message to upstage the wing-nut down south.
    4) The date was no accident, as there was another thing happening today regarding Iran.

  29. I’m sure there a plenty of bad reasons, satan, for dictating the banning of incandescent light bulbs.
BAD, it’s the opposite of good.
I want good government, and paying lip-service to Israel’s continued existence is fine.
As I said above, talk is cheap.
Bad legislation restricting free choice on a perfectly fine consumer good and using my taxes to support Arab murderers who want to eradicate Jews is more than talk, it’s concrete action.
Bad principles in action is what I see.

  30. Well, it’s nice PM Harper could appeal to their poor-me side. Somebody called them names…boo-hoo
Should be good for another raid on the taxpayers for ‘aid’ to the most powerful country in the region. There’s your socialism…

  31. You can honestly say no other World leader would say what harper said today.
None of them have the guts.Neither conscience to rebut the Palestinian lies of the last 30 years.
Not only legitimizing Israel, but showing where the real morality is. Not with the Muslim cult for sure.
Harper did a great service to canada.
As for monies the foreign department is full of Islamic moles. As is the Immigration department.
That the UN spends more time on Israel than any real disaster tells you all you ned to know.

  32. Harper was superb, but David Warren recently revealed that the Conservatives had given millions of taxpayer money to construct some kind of shrine to Mao facilitator Dr. Norman Bethune! This will mean smaller donations all around.

  33. He sure didn’t mince words. Anyone have any doubts about where he stands? Show me another world leader using such plain and unequivocal language anywhere.

  34. “But neither Israel’s existence nor its policies are responsible for the instability in the Middle East today”
What a world we live in when stating an obvious fact is seen as an act of courage.

  35. “It shows Dr Bethune to be a man dedicated to improving medical care”
Of which there is no doubt.
But he was also a Stalinist communist. Would we quite as effusive over a Canadian doctor who was dedicated to improving medical care but was also a Hitlerite fascist?

  36. Am I the only one who finds stradivarious’s opinions on Jews and Israel just a bit, well, smelly?

  37. Ah, I see there are two posters at work here: “stradivarious” and “Stradivarius”.
    Or are they two?

  38. Yeah, it’s important to be part of a herd…like a cow.
Speaking of fear (re: Lance’s comment), I always find it curious many people seem to need a herd around them to feel safe…Saskatchewan socialist indoctrination, I suppose. No wonder there is such an affinity for another socialist place.

Mat 23:2 Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees have taken their seat upon Moses’ seat:
Mat 23:3 All things therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, … ye observe and do; but do not ye according to their works: for they say “ought to be done”, but they do not the works themselves.
