What If We Could Be Russia For A Day?

I mean, just, just, just one day.

…the U.S. foundations include multi-billion dollar activist organizations, built of fortunes from the Fords and Rockefellers, the Hewletts and Packards, that dwarf anything that exists in Canada. As if that didn’t provide them enough advantage, the U.S. foundations act in concert, deciding among themselves what the priorities for the nation and beyond should be, the better to concentrate pressure. There is no two-way street – U.S. foundations can and do routinely influence Canadian policy; Canadian foundations can’t and don’t influence U.S. policy. The U.S. influence, moreover, is all the more powerful because most Canadians have no clue when the exhortations coming from Sierra Club, Greenpeace or the David Suzuki Foundation are financed by U.S. interests, to further a U.S. agenda.

  1. I would point out that these organizations are not pushing a *US* agenda. Not even so much as a *US government* agenda as they are pushing their own agenda which is global in scope and does not respect national boundaries.
There isn’t anymore a US agenda than there is a *Canadian* agenda – neither of our nations are one mass of people working towards the same goal.
Its just a bunch of groups trying to influence policy to their benefit and many of these groups are rich and powerful enough to be global in scale – this talk of foreign this or that is just scaremongering. There’s plenty to find reprehensible in these NGO’s goals and tactics without resorting to ‘OMG furriners’ rhetoric.

  2. “…There isn’t anymore a US agenda than a Canadian agenda…”
Gosh. How could I have been so wrong all these years?

  3. Actually, it’s a Saudi agenda I bet.
So-called charities that don’t actually perform, like, you know, charitable work, should have their charitable status removed.

  4. All things considered South Africa would be preferable. Better weather, and banning orders would both keep David Suzuki off the lecture circuit and force the Globe, Post and Star to get quotes on topics unrelated to sports from people who weren’t communists or Islamists.
They could thank us later for restoring their credibility.

  5. Isn’t it natural for nation states to promote their geopolitical interests? US foundations, long established, depending on their motivation simply have longer time frames than perhaps politicans.
I have been arguing the case that Canada’s financial and political rise does not benefit many countries who now and in the future profit from a Canada divided and dependent. The avenue for Canadian growth is wealth created by oil export. The full development of Canadian oil reserves and the marketing of those reserves internationally threaten OPEC, Russia and the USA.
A richer Canada would have the means to defend Artic claims and chart a more independent course in trade relations and political decision making. Canada occupies a very strategic position globally. PMSH understands this I think. It is more than depressing when one considers most Canadians are more worried about what a no mind like Justin Turdeau eats for breakfast. Canada has proven to be easily manipulated for centuries one has to question whether this opportunity will be grasped.

  6. These same types in the general US population that support these foundations will be the first to decry the “ugly American”, but fail to see they ARE the ugly American. They assume they cannot possibly be the “ugly American” because they are not a “lesser educated redneck” and in their own minds they are enlightened and refined. As a US citizen, I am embarrassed and these people disgust me.

  7. The goal of these groups is massive de-industrialization and liquidation of what they consider surplus population — not including themselves nor their families, of course. It is a malicious and anti-human agenda driven by fear and paranoia mixed with a quasi-religious dogmatism. It is the single greatest threat to humanity to date and it shows no sign of weakening any time soon.

  8. Power of the buck and anything for a buck.
Most of these trust fund kids are very narrow people with no idea what their wealth is being used to do.
Actively retarding foreign developments that threaten your monopoly is business as normal, by what ever method that works.
And it is so easy in Canada, our entire kleptocracy is here to help destroy production and productive behaviour.
Sucking up to the elites of the eastern sea board is what our progressives do, the opinion of “the world” is so important to them, so much they show zero brain activity outside the talking points.

  9. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a conservative government in Ottawa? Wouldn’t it be nice to have
an intelligent electorate in Canada? Wouldn’t it be nice if there were more than 50 Canadians
    who had any brains?

  10. Folks, these foundations no more reflect my priorities than they do the vision of their original founders. They are fellow traveling one worlders. They are incredibly destructive to the U.S. I hate to think they’re spewing their poison in Canada as well. Both countries have enough issues to worry about with being ideologically undermined by viscious, thoughtless billionaires.

  11. Exactly, and as well, TrueNorthist has it right.
Canada’s federal government needs to get real serious with declassifying these so-called charities and pull their CRA charitable status.

  12. We can’t be Russia because Russia is an autocratic hellhole. These charities have the right to give money to whom they want. If we’re going to have charitable status (wish we didn’t) then all charities must have it whether or not you don’t like what they’re doing.

  13. I don’t buy the US influence BS either. The anti-industrial pseudo-environmental zealots are so deep into their green theology, that nations are irrelevant. They hate Capitalism but enjoy funding from US Capitalist legacy foundations. They hate petroleum but use more than most people. Pointing out the US funding connection may stir up a little nationalistic fervor in people not in tune to the issues but to anyone leaning their way on the issues, theology trumps nationalism any day.
The Greens are here to destroy your economy not because they get US funding but because they are the enemies of liberty, progress, and reason. They are also hypocrites. They should be fought on those grounds and perhaps eventually kinetically.

  14. Which is why the main stream media – also controlled or “influenced” by powerful leftist organizations – is so busy saying and repeating 24/7 how evil the political right is and how evil the rich capitalists who “control” it are.
    It is a diversion tactic.
While the masses are focused on watching the front door, as “instructed” by their media, the left cheats trough the rear door.
The left is the establishment now, they control almost everything.
Somethings can not be measured or quantified precisely but I would say we have become some new type of dystopia ( less so while conservatives are in power but they don’t control everything, the left is almost everywhere now )
    Dystopia in short ( from Wordiq.com);
    — a nation-state ruled by an upper class with few democratic ideals
    — state propaganda programs and educational systems that coerce most citizens into worshipping the state and its government, in an attempt to convince them into thinking that life under the regime is good and just
—strict conformity among citizens and the general assumption that dissent and individuality are bad
—a common view of traditional life, particularly organized religion, as primitive and nonsensical
—constant surveillance by state police agencies

  15. as long as there is turmoil I the air, there appears to be greater justification to keep the prices of “energy” high, which pleases the oil companies to no end, you don’t have to go across the border to find ppl willing to fund these dimwitted idiots, home grown interests are just as willing. And yes, I agree that ALL funding should be publicly declared
and L-ASS, are you for real????

  16. Canadians think there invisible .Because where the good guys supposedly. How naive.
Saudi Arabia to Russia have been sabotaging out National interests to compete against ours for decades. From TV companies to newspapers where owned. Grow up Canada. We have real enemies that want us to fail, using idiots , including Indian groups paid off, against out own industries.
If where to stupid to protect ourselves. We deserve the damage done to ourselves.
You think OPEC thinks nice thoughts about us?
Seems every one wants to take the Arctic from us, including Trudeau the younger.
To the CBC Canada only means Toronto, with a nod to Montreal.
Time we made every environmental group, including companies. To admit ownership. Like labelling meat, or the side effects of drugs.
Its time the money lenders where outed.Do people really think Obama not allowing a pipeline, is just for his watermelon base?

  17. You know Trudeau the younger lacks something.
Given the damage Pierre the Idiot, got away with doing to Canada, the fact that shiny phoney ain’t gonna make it.
    I prefer Trudeau the Lesser.
And opinion polls aside, the ability of the press to promote any cause is being broken as we watch.
When the self styled opinion makers prove they are willing to lie, slander and delete history to push their agenda, the www is shredding their cover.
Presstitute is a modern descriptor, they are naked to scrutiny.
And they can not stand up to an honest evaluation.
As for the Canadian dream of being relevant and the good guys..
If we cannot protect what we have and cannot make it plain, that we will defend our own, we will be attacked and robbed.
Human nature is a near constant.
