An affiliate of Houston-based NET Midstream LLC has received approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission to build and run a pipeline delivering Eagle Ford Shale natural gas to Mexico.
The company’s NET Mexico Pipeline Partners LLC has a long-term agreement to transport 2.1 billion cubic feet of gas per day with MGI Supply Ltd. a unit of Pemex Gas y Petroquimica Basica, Mexico’s state-owned gas company.

Warren Buffet doesn’t make a nickle on transporting natural gas by rail, whereas he is making a fortune transporting crude by rail.
When the northern gateway reaches the Pacific Ocean oil can be shipped to any of the Pacific rim countries at world market prices. Once the energy east pipeline brings the oilsands crude to Montreal for refining it will lower fuel costs for more than half the population of the country, including me. At the end of the pipeline will be the Atlantic Ocean, from where it can be shipped to European customers again at world market prices. At that point the economic case for Keystone XL diminishes as shipping from the Bay of Fundy to Texas will be cheap and the refiners will now be bidding against other customers. The losers will be the Americans who could be employed right now building Keystone XL. Obama is deliberately sabotaging the USA’s economy.

Yes, this thread is mainly about the hypocrisy of the decision to allow a pipeline to Mexico while not allowing Keystone XL on spurious grounds of environmental impact concerns, pandering to the eco-weenie vote. As all the detailed comments explain, the Obama regime thwarts Keystone XL to serve other interests.

The hold up on Keystone has absolutely NOTHING to do with the environment. It is simply the way for Obama to get around the free trade agreement to protect U.S. oil producers. The Canadian government should invoke the dispute settlement provisions of the Agreement.

In addition it is recognition the continuing setting aside of Canadian interests in the North American continent will ultimately make Canada a potential battlefield between China and the U.S.A.
Actually not shipping Canadian energy to the contiguous United States will really be a benefit to Canada. It sets aside the Liberal Party of Canada attempts to marginalize Western Canada. As even the Quebec Separatists recognize the benefit of a cross Canada pipeline. This being prevented by the Liberal Government in the 1970’s.
It also brings China, using American money, to make serious investments in our underpopulated, resource rich, country. China will supplant the U.S.A. in North America as it has throughout the African Continent; the Australian Continent; and South East Asia. Once China has more than a toehold in Canada it will bracket the U.S.A. by moving the just as weak Europe out of the South American Continent.
But; as said earlier, I am concerned about Canada being the battleground for a potential shooting war between a cornered U.S.A. and an ascendant China. Cheers;

Mexico is about to open up its energy sector to foreign and private development. The sea change will be truly massive. I think it could crush out what life is left in the Chavista regime.
Do the Americans need Keystone XL any more? I don’t think so. They don’t need
Saudi oil, and they don’t need our oil, so far as I can see. Fracking has altered the
energy landscape that much in seven short years.
I don’t see the Mexican pipeline as a bad thing.
The only reason Mexico needs natgas is to run electrical plants. More energy should get the economy going and that should help stabilize the government.

One more thing about Warren Buffet and BNSF RR. In addition to owning the railroad that transports more oil than any other RR in North America, want to take a guess as to what company owns Union Tank Car Company? They are the largest producers of tank cars in the US and are owned by Berkshire Hathaway, Mr. Buffet’s vehicle that owns 100% of BNSF.
In the last few years, steel prices have fallen. Meanwhile, a shortage of tank cars has arisen due to the increased production from the Bakken, Eagle Ford and Permian Basins. New tank cars were $105,000 a few years ago and are now $140,000 with falling material prices. Nice business being opposed to Canadian oil. Makes you rich and environmentally caring all at the same time.
