Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

I agree, it won’t happen. Too many provincial and political impediments.
The Media Party is going to milk this as long as possible.
I would venture that the CBC and indeed the CTV do have a problem.
As has been well stated previously they have been inflicting on their viewers a deluge of repetitive information. Day in day out they use the old weapon of scandal. How many times in the past has this worked for them. Now they think they still have the power to destroy Prime Minister Harper, or deal a body blow. Again to state their problem. Who is there to steer the ship of state ie: Canada?
(1) The helmsman at the wheel.
(2) The possible demagogue
(3) The matinee idol
What about the charges against Benjamin Levin, friend to many Librano$, both federal and provincial?
What about Mac Harb’s false expense claims over $200,000?
What about the million$ owed to Canadians by the Librano$ because of AdScam?
What about the $1.1-billion the McGuilty/Loser Liberal$ saddled Ontario taxpayers with?
ETC., ETC.
Puffy/Caterwallin/ Brazen are small fry compared to those other scandals, and my list isn’t by any means exhaustive. The CPC were trying to keep Canadian taxpayers from having to fork over Duffy’s bogus expenses, for crying out loud. They didn’t take any money from Canadians in this “scandal,” a detail the hyena media never mention.
Duffy’s a scumbag — just look at his face, his eyes — who’s mad as hell that he’s been found out. The media hyenas and the Leftards are having a field day making a mountain out of a mole hill.
Harper needs to get better at picking Senators. Or else elect ’em.
Re reforming or abolishing: I am a tad afraid of not having a house of “sober second thought”. Imagine the ridiculous laws a PM Trudeau Jr. in a majority situation could pass with impunity.
But not knowing a heck of a lot about the Senate, I don’t know how effective they really are as a ‘house of second thought’ (except that they are damn good at wasting money)And I also have to admit I have tuned out this ‘scandal’ for the most part as well…
ho hum
The problem isn’t picking “better senators” the problem is picking star power senators. The next appointments should be so dull and useless that the MSM will all say “who the heck is that guy?” and move on to the next dog and pony show. Appointing fellow pack members just paint targets.
By picking better senators, I meant small c conservatives to appoint as senators. I think it’s quite clear that Duffy is not one of those…
This whole fiasco is a media manufactured “scandal” from start to finish. Starting with Bob ( un-named sources) Fife. The Conservatives initiated an audit to which certain details were released, leaked by un-named sources to the intrepid and effeminate rat smeller, Bob Fife. This was not only convenient for Fifey, but also the Liberals and their brand new Trudeau. The “leaked” portion of the audit revealed to girly Bob, and at some point the public, that 15 Senators had been flagged for “questionable spending”, 10 of those senators were of course Liberals, 5 were Conservative appointees, but as fast as you can say, Fifed, the whole episode was transformed and nuanced into the “scandal of the century”, Duffygate! A story of “shocking” corruption within the dysfunctional Senate, corruption exclusive to Duffy, Wallin, and Brazeau. “Duffygate” was the media getting out in front of the story (audit) framing the narrative to smear the PM and the Conservative brand, while simultaneously deflecting attention away from the 10 Liberal Senators, who’s identities still remain a mystery, and protect the latest lead floater in the Liberal party toilet, Trudumb. As far as I can tell the whole slight of hand media con game has worked like a charm. The PM and the Conservatives desire to be honest has backfired on them, it’s been used against them and they’ve been caught with their dicks in the wind, or, speaking of dicks, Fifed! Que the circus music.
Apologies… that’s supposed to read, Cue the circus music, or perhaps dueling banjo’s, heck, since we’re talking about Fife and the Liberals, cue the french disco music.
Well said Mr Glengarrian especially the line when the fridge is 3000 miles away. As a retired otr trucker I often wondered the same thing while chowing down on fast food and bad coffee.
“Bob Fife will be devastated. A very sad day at CBC HQ.”
I believe you’ll find Bob “Barney” Fife is a reporter for CTV News, that slightly retarded second-string imitation of CBC News.
And CBC sets a low bar to start with.
I happen to like PM Harper quite a lot. A political leader long on getting down to business and short on narcissism.
But this is a mess of his own making and there’s just no getting around that.
This mess actually has an identifiable start date: 22 December 2008, the day Harper made the self-weaning and avaricious Duffy a senator.
And then there’s Wallin and Brazeau.
If no one has ever said “thank you” to you for all the hours behind the wheel hauling and delivering goods I sure will! The economy would be stalled dead without trucks moving every thing we consume. Bless ya!
What they don’t tell ya til they show up for an audit is that until you start your log book you aren’t considered “at work”…so the 1st meal of the day receipt is dis- allowed. Then you have to make 4 hours consecutive driving to get an allowbale receipt for a meal #2 (usually not a problem). Then by the time you get to where you are going and get unpinned and repinned and get to another truck stop for the night you are out of time in the log book and considered “not at work” again and meal #3 is disallowed.
The whole system is to herd truck drivers into claiming 17$ a day with no receipts required.
If the Senate had to keep a log book of their activities it sure wouldn’t be set up this way me thinks.
E. Fudd: “For what it’s worth, when I worked for the Evil Feds ( retired 7 years ago), our allowed meal expenses were-
Breakfast- $7.50
Lunch- $12.00
Dinner-$30.00
Probably more now.”
Yes, and if you or I or some other poor insignificant sap down inside the government machinery had been caught for claiming a single Big Mac they weren’t entitled to, we’d have been gone long ago.
God knows how many Big Macs Senator Duffy could scarf down in a single sitting.
Wonder if those making excuses for Harper also give Obama the same deference. Somehow I think not.
Why on earth would we do that?
Harper’s not wilfully making Canadian’s lives miserable, as Obama is doing to Americans.
🙂
You don’t get out much, do you?
No politician in a Liberal Democratic(original meaning) nation is comparable to Obama.
Which other political figure has all the records of his past sealed away from public scrutiny like Obama has so that we cannot even find out who the man really even is?
“Wonder if those making excuses for Harper also give Obama the same deference. Somehow I think not.”
Harper? Obama? I’ve seen some poor comparisons in my time but that has to rank right up there in the top ten.
BC Blue:
My Gosh! It took me time to reach a place where I could comment. The Lib coat tails have been whipped.
Lets see; the lead protagonist on the media side is Robert Fife; several years ago in a Christmas interview with P.M. Harper by Lloyd Robertson and Robert Fife, the P.M. said to Fife, who was and is a real “tool” for the Liberals, and I paraphrase “Bob you are more likely to become a Conservative Party Senate appointee than a Liberal one”.
I have believed since Mike “Puffy”, his sobriquet on the commenting places at the time, was appointed just to stick it the “tool”. Fife was ostensibly Duffy’s boss at C.T.V. Seems like the joke got out of hand or the old Duff could not keep his hand out of the till or some such.
Regardless the more focus on the interminably unaccountable Senate, the greater the likelihood something CAN be done. Even the Liberals will see it is not a good catch all place for their upper level coat tails. The Socialist will be less tempted to buy into the Senate appointee meme.
Hopefully we will end with an elected Senate representing Canada to and for a Regional electorate. We sure don’t need to have a grotesquely over represented P.E.I. This “johnny come lately” Province has always been a quick buy off for brokerage politics.
If not an elected Senate, working for the benefit of good Canadian policies through direct input rather than a clouded input through a Provincial bias, then no Senate is best.
Not having a catch all place for upper level coat tails for all political parties will surely reduce the number of Ottawa coat tails. Cheers;
“The charges relate to events in 2005, when Fontana was a federal cabinet minister and his son had a wedding reception at the Marconi Club.”
“Federal” as opposed to “federal Liberal”.
In not wanting to sully the Liberal brand, CTV and others employ generic descriptors, as opposed to when it’s a conservative…
“The court case of Rahim Jaffer, the former Conservative MP from Alberta featured in anti-drug campaign ads, has been put off until Nov. 16. ”

I just about managed to get through the first three pages of the comments by the worthies who read the Globe & Mail. Over 600 of them in total.
The vitriol, the sarcasm, the negative comments about Prime Minister Harper are revealing. One does not have to admire or support anyone of course. Constructive criticism of the Prime Minister is essential to democracy.
The mind set of the persons in the first three pages, seems to show something quite twisted. It may just me my take though.
I have to hand it to the Prime Ministers office, what a clever way to get the hold out provinces to demand a triple E senate.
PM demonstrates the weaknesses of appointing cling-on.
Premiers shy away from recommending possible embarrassments.
I guess the voters will have to chose their wanna be senators themselves.
