The price of power for many Ontario households and businesses has spurted higher as the “global adjustment’ – an extra fee tacked onto the market price – has jumped to a record high.
The market price for electricity in Ontario Tuesday was about 2.5 cents a kilowatt hour. But the global adjustment for September will add another 8.72 cents to the market price for customers who aren’t covered by the province’s regulated price plan.

It’s a fee added to the market price because most electricity in Ontario doesn’t trade on the open market; some generators have separate contracts with the Ontario Power Authority, others are covered by special rates for renewable power.
Privately owned Bruce Power sells its output under contract to the power authority, for example. Privately owned gas-fired generating stations also have separate contracts, while most wind and solar producers are covered by special feed-in tariff rates that are considerably higher than the average market price.
To cover the cost of those higher-than-market rates, as well as conservation programs, consumers are charged the extra fee, or “global adjustment.”

The only way to really let the Ontario government know how displeased one is with the outrageous taxes and rates is with an uprising. Not one of those pansy-@$$ Occupy wastes of time but a true display of unfettered rage.
The fact that there’s a “global adjustment” is an outrage, in and of, itself. Just wait until all your appliances are mandated to be “smart”. The power company will just switch them off, or chargge you for overages, similiar to internet providers with bandwidth.

An official in the office of energy minister Bob Chiarelli said the global adjustment has risen because power consumption was low in August. That means that the costs responsible for the fee had to be recovered from a reduced number of kilowatt hours.
So they encourage us to use less power, and then when we do, they charge us more for the privilege. Nice.
That’s exactly what happened to the water/sewer rates in Ontar-i-owe, people conserved their freaking metered water and the rates went up. They want people to conserve and then penalize them when they do. This is definitely in line with the crackpot doctrine of the global warming alarmists. This in turn will make people use even less because they cannot afford it, then what, a well in your backyard and chemical toilets or a little house out back with a half moon window?
Interesting that the RedStar manages at least two lies just in the photograph, let alone the article itself. First lie: none of this “global adjustment” goes to the generators like OPG. The provincial government pockets the lot. This is where the subsidy money comes from to pay 70 cent solar power and 17 cent wind power.
Second lie: OPG has nothing to do with global price adjustments. It receives fixed payment only for its electricity generation; none is sold on the electricity market by IESO.
Now in the article itself, the only private generator mentioned is Bruce Power. Only the Bruce A reactors are sold on a fixed contract cost basis. The power from Bruce B is sold into the market. Because renewables get first access to the grid, Bruce has to cut production if there’s a surplus of wind, meaning it has to absorb the loss of revenue.
Finally, understand that the RedStar is the propaganda arm of the government. It’s running a disinformation campaign to support the government’s “public consultation” right now ongoing. The principal interest of the government is to slow down or cancel renewal of Ontario’s nuclear fleet and bring us more useless renewable generation.
How do we know this? Tyler Hamilton, the RedStar’s principal “energy expert”, gets direct financial support/payoff from the government.
To paraphrase Mencken – People deserve the government they get, and they deserve to get it good and hard.
When you divide your electric bill (with all the extra charges such as delivery, HST, debt retirement,regulatory charges),by the actual kwh’s you have used, the cost in Ontario exceeds 20 cents per kwh.
How can anyone that gets an electric bill in Ontario continue to vote Liberal?
As for an uprising….all it would take is a citizenry armed with hammers to smash the damn smart meters enmass.

Don’t look at me, I never voted for McGuilty. Looking at the electoral map it was the people in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and Ottawa that put the Lieberals in the majority. The rural areas are Tory blue.
Ontario Hydro’s problems started when Maurice Strong was in charge. He deliberately sabotaged the system to drive electricity rates high on the theory that doing so was good for the planet; global warming you know.
Simple terms might help in this fight.

The bottom line is that Ont. E-energy generation and carriage was privatized then over regulated – a glowing example of how “regulation” always has taxes involved – the more levels of regulation the more taxation. Personally, if I were running a business dependent on electricity, I would be moving out of this klepto backwater faster than Dalton’s departure for the US, – let those who elected the bandits live with their larceny – jobless cold and dark.
Watch the province deindustrialize at even faster rates than before. I have to shake my head at how inept and usurious a government has to be to hollow-out the cheapest electric energy production in Canada in 10 short years. It has to be some kind of milestone even among kleptocrats.

Where were the PC protests when The Dildo was bringing in the Clean Water Act, The Provincial Policy Statement on Land Use, The Endangered Species Act and the Green Energy Act?
I’ll tell you – they were either (a) absolutely silent, or, (b) raising their hands and voting for it along with the NDP because they didn’t want to appear “non-environmentally sensitive”.

The Ontario PC’s need to come out with some really good policies and stop yakking off about the Liberal scandals. Bereft of balls and backbones, there is very little likelihood that Ontario PCs have any chance of coming up with “really good policies”.
They are terrified to the point of petrification of the Trawna media. Their great fear of generating negative headlines (because of their inability to anticipate and develop strategies to counter the resulting accusations) ensures that they will continue to turn out pre-digested pablum.

Good point. The average Ontario and Canadian voter is an idiot. In Ontario, more than half of the population makes their money because the Liberals are in charge. It makes it really hard for the informed tax payer to vote them out, as I have tried for the past three elections.
