  1. The notion that REM carried out the gas attack makes as much sense as the rebels carrying out gas attacks on their own positions in Damascus.

  2. I read somewhere recently that there’s not a single piece of documentation with Hitler’s signature on it authorizing anything that happened in the death camps. One of the joys of totalitarianism is that the dictator can just issue vague suggestions about how the world should be, and the underlings grow to understand what needs to be done without receiving explicit instructions.

  3. “……..makes as much sense as the rebels carrying out gas attacks on their own positions in Damascus.”
Makes a lotta sense actually…..the “rebels” are gettin’ a lotta bad press lately for moping up those not of their religion/sect/politics.
Smearing the government may make the “liver eaters” look better. Their Saudi/Qatari sponsors may have commented.
Then there is that inconvenient truth…..there is no definitive/empirical evidence that a chemical attack even took place. It is possible that with all the corpses already laying about the thing coulda been staged……Green Helmet Guy on a larger scale….
As far as Assad et al, it would make more sense to gas another city held by the rebels.
We don’t know the chemical agent (other than rumour), there is no access to the site and we don’t know if it is a genuine chemical attack or a false flag…or whose…..
Either side is capable of killing civilians for political advantage.

  4. sasquatch,,
    Just to add on,,,
One of the disturbing things about the videos shown of the victims is that none of the medics/aid folks were wearing gloves or any other sort of covering,,, some not even masks.
If there was a military grade Gas/Chem attack the victims would have still been contaminated and thus so would be the aid givers.
That in of itself would be the verification. To my knowledge there has never been any reports of cross contamination in the hospitals or areas the victims were taken to.
(or rescue workers fresh to the scene of the alleged attack)
As I have said before, I don’t know what happened.
It just seems too convenient this all took place after Oblameya drew his line in the sand re chem weapons.
If the intel was that bulletproof why are the British getting squeamish.

  5. The USSA is pulling the same $h1t that started the Iraq war. I never ever dreamed I would say this, but thank you Mr. Cretin for keeping us out of that mess.
Obummer is lying about gas attacks just like Shrub did about WMDs to make a case for war. And this time bobblehead Harper has his back.
Only the people can avert this sorry mess by refusing to go along.

  6. The UK is backing away,
France holding out for a political solution,
Now Oblamer says it will be ‘A Shot Across the Bow.’
Guess he will Bow to Assad, then shoot himself in the ass..

  7. I never trust any video out of the ME. Especially when its hyped to death like this most recent phony baloney.

  8. Looking forward to calls for Obama to be taken before the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.

  9. “makes as much sense as the rebels”

Even if you forget, we aren’t forgetting that your so-called ‘rebels’ are widely known for carrying out suicide bombings, even using their own children.
If gas was used, using gas on one of their own ‘positions’ isn’t unthinkable.
You might want to read up on the Iran-Iraq war and pay special attention to references to ‘plastic keys’.

  10. America is now gonna
‘Show Syria Just Enough Muscle so that we don’t get Mocked.’
    WTF..
Putin flexes his muscles and Obama flexes his muscles,
and then we all go to the gym and pump each other.
    Sheeesh !
    can we bow any lower?

  11. G, I have found a couple of references to medical personnel being affected due to exposure to the victims. Here’s one..
“….the massive influx of patients in a short period of time, the origin of the patients, and the contamination of medical and first aid workers – strongly indicate mass exposure to a neurotoxic agent,”
    http://in.reuters.com/article/2013/08/24/syria-crisis-msf-chemical-toll-idINDEE97N04H20130824
Both sides are ruthless enough to gas civilians in order to gain the upper hand. Since both sides are evil and enemies to western civilization, let’s bomb both. Even numbered days of the month bomb Assad’s forces. Odd numbered days bomb the rebels.

  12. The gas attack was a false flag – probably carried out by CIA/MI6 directed/ Brotherhood factions funded by US/UK – to justify joint US-NATO intervention (read: another undeclared war) and to get the blood up on blindered patriots to back it and use as cannon fodder.

  13. So anyone heard from John Kerry in the last day or so?
Seems his rather florid and absolutist pronouncements are not being backed by the POTUS. Oh Oh….was JK a rogue Sec State or did the Obama Bus just roll over him when they found there wasnt immeadiate praise for the POTUS’s “concludes”?
Shot across the bow? 3 days of strikes? All telegraphed in advance? Is this the punishment that immeadiately follows from JK’s statements?
Yup, Woodward got it right….The Amatuer indeed…..so how long before questions start being asked about how the Sec State made those pronouncements, where they WH approved? What was Valerie Jarrett thinking?
On a Canadian note, Harper would be well advised to saty away from this whole mess. If Libya taught him anything it is that going along with Obama on anything in Middle East gets you nothing, all Obama did was stiffen his resolve against piepline. No need to do him any favours and Syria means squat to anyone here. Until there is absolute proof of Chem weapons use by an identifiable group we have nothing to do. And the less said the better.

  14. sasquatch, G, and Oz make great points as does Kate with the link cover “who has the most to gain”.
Even if reports of medical and aid workers were contaminated it still does not prove who used the chemicals.
At this point it is definitely the rebels who have the most to gain with smearing Assad and receiving western military aid. Think about Libya and how well that ultimately worked out.
Keep in mind that a certain administration needs to find a way to keep playing footsie with the Wahhabi.

  15. But Obama claims to have hard evidence that the use of WMD has links to Assad and the President or his people would NEVER lie to the American people, would they !!!

  16. Obamanation is going to be Al Queda’s air force if he bombs Syria. Kind of ironic isn’t since Al Queda bombed the world trade towers killing thousands of Americans. Who’s side is he on.
Like Sarah Palin said , ” If it was up to me I’d let Allah sort this one out and stay away from the region”

  17. .there is no definitive/empirical evidence that a chemical attack even took place.
Yeah all those people are faking iris constriction. Right.

  18. Why are do many videos coming from the ME show so many children as victims? Do they purposely put them in harms way for more impact? It’s human and animal nature to protect our young but in they appear to always be part of any uprising in that part of the world.

  19. ~LAS; Even if you forget, we aren’t forgetting that your so-called ‘rebels’ are widely known for carrying out suicide bombings, even using their own children.,, If gas was used, using gas on one of their own ‘positions’ isn’t unthinkable.
Oz, this is true but the evidence so far suggests otherwise. It is a compelling idea, given the reaction and outrage with the Syrian government, it would be an effective deception, ruthless and cruel it may be. I do agree we haven’t the whole story on this yet but we shouldn’t assume the fake out scenario is credible and Assad is acting rationally.
Regarding culpability, even if a local commander was the one who actually ordered the attack, and unless he explicitly disobeyed orders (the coming deek out perhaps?), Assad and the Syrian military are responsible. It is inconceivable this type of attack wasn’t part of general orders and not delegated, so the highest levels of the Syrian military and government were likely aware and authorized this attack.

  20. Shamrock >
The Syrian government had nothing to gain by gassing their own people; they could never be overthrown by “rebels” alone. At the end of the day they have the full support of Iran and Russia.
The US sides with Al Qaeda once again. They are the “wet ops” arm of the American government’s imperialistic interests and have been since their founding by US intelligence during the Afghani, Russian war in the ‘80’s.

Testimony from victims strongly suggests it was the rebels, not the Syrian government, that used Sarin nerve gas during a recent incident in the revolution-wracked nation, a senior U.N. diplomat said Monday.
Carla del Ponte, a member of the U.N. Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria, told Swiss TV there were “strong, concrete suspicions but not yet incontrovertible proof,” that rebels seeking to oust Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad had used the nerve agent.
But she said her panel had not yet seen any evidence of Syrian government forces using chemical weapons, according to the BBC, but she added that more investigation was needed.
    [SNIP]
Rebel Free Syrian Army spokesman Louay Almokdad denied that rebels had use chemical weapons.
“In any case, we don’t have the mechanism to launch these kinds of weapons, which would need missiles that can carry chemical warheads, and we in the FSA do not possess these kind of capabilities,” Mr. Almokdad told CNN.
“More importantly, we do not aspire to have (chemical weapons) because we view our battle with the regime as a battle for the establishment of a free democratic state. … We want to build a free democratic state that recognizes and abides by all international accords and agreements — and chemical and biological warfare is something forbidden legally and internationally.” END

–At this point I should mention that the Syrian ‘rebels’ are not one monolithic entity. There is the FSA(Free Syrian Army) and then there is the Al-Nusra Front(Al-Qaeda). It just so happens that the Al-Nusra Front is doing most of the fighting and making most of the gains against the Assad government.
It would be nothing for Al-Nusra, which has already massacred at least 4 whole Syrian villages, to strike FSA positions with sarin gas.(it goes without saying that al-Qaeda is not interested in democracy or many of the principles that the FSA is mouthing)

  22. Knight99: “The Syrian government had nothing to gain by gassing their own people.”
Agreed, at least from our point of view/perception; but who said they had good judgement or look at the way we do. Perhaps Assad either has poor judgement and/or thinks he is bulletproof with his Russian master running interference for him; just saying.
Yes it would be smart move for the Islamist rebels to frame the Syrians, and very stupid and risky for them to do the attack, again Assad may have calculated (correctly) the US will simply make obligatory condemnations followed by a muted cruise missile or drone attack. Perhaps again the local commander was being defeated and launched the attack out of desperation. OTOH is you’re thinking of other players in this affair, think of Iran and China
All I’m saying is we don’t have all the facts yet but I tend to trust the intelligence that says the Syrian military is behind the attack, at least for now. I also doubt the UN inspectors will find any chemical weapons in Syria, despite this deployment. Sound familiar?

  23. Obama will give a “shot” across the bow, keeping America pretty much out of things but giving Iran the handy excuse to bombard Israel as it has already threatened to do if the U.S. does anything in Syria.
Mission accomplished. Obama is no friend of Israel.
That’s my take on this whole mess . . .

  24. My take on it is that this is a distraction from the myriad of scandals that Obama has been facing up until his administration hit the reset button by stating that Assad has finally crossed the red line.
SHAZZAM! Not much about those scandals in the news anymore.
    Mission accomplished.

  25. You’re probably right about that, too. So when it comes to “who has the most to gain” this is a win-win for leftists (who are usually anti-Israel) on almost every level.

  26. Shamrock >
“Agreed, at least from our point of view/perception;”
Yes, and as with any crime a criminalist must first look at who does have the most to gain. Worry about the random act of insanity once the motive becomes impossible to establish.
Assad is a dictator to be sure, but he’s not insane. The global interests in the region that you have mentioned are also not insane. Greedy, corrupt, and ambitious maybe, but definitely in touch with world opinion and ME regional politics.
All of which seems to escape the Obamba regime. Now there’s a “point of view/perception” we need to get our heads around a little better.
