Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Hippies, bonfires, latrines….hippies, bonfires, latrines oh my…..
A Walmart parking lot sounds like a better ecological fit if these granolas really cared about the environment.
They obviously don’t know about Port MacNeil’s mayor, Jerry Furney.
The residents of Hardy and McNeill, comprise largely three constituencies.
Native Indians
Redneck NDP retirees and gov workers.
Eco-nutters and welfare types.
If the group of campers were a visible minority, the response and treatment would have been far different. Mother Nature is a hardy creature, and would have easily survived this gathering of a somewhat motley crew. The response from the urban effete latte crowd has been shrieking, to say the least “destroying nature” etc…………
After a typical North Island winter (storms lasting days, annual rainfall over 200 inches), hardly a trace would be noticeable in one season. The aggressive west coast jungle recovers very, very well from enchroachment. But enviros don’t want to hear that, they don’t understand the hardiness of the bush from their Kitsilano condo.
“Good for me but not for thee”
Yeah… a group this large needs to think about where it camps, but the funny thing here is that so many of you who worry about the damage a few thousand hippies will do, don’t worry about what a pipeline will do. Go figure.
We need pipelines, we don’t need hippies.
John, after all the recent rail disasters, it’s not clear why you’re STILL supporting transport of oil on rail cars. Very weird.
Hahaha. Best quote in a long time, Stradivarious. Agree completely! 😀
Lol’d at stradivarious’ comment.
And Robert, I believe the correct technical term is smelly hippies, not stinky hippies!! Actually, to be most technically correct it should be dirty, smelly hippies.
“Facebook postings from a group called the Rainbow Family of Living Light had declared Raft Cove the destination for a month-long “World Rainbow Gathering,” where attendees would live off the land and pray for world peace. ”
If I hear that phrase,”live off the land” again, I may hurl lunch!
WTF do they think it means? People aren’t capable of living off the land unless they kill something, deer, fish, etc. The notion that there are enough wild berries or roots to feed more than a few survivalists is delusional hippie fiction.
I worked in that are in the 1960’s, there were miners, loggers and a very few hippies, most of whom were camped out at an abandoned WW2 era radar station, name escapes me.
It’s beautiful country, too good to be trampled by a bunch of delusion f***tards.
Next time the Rainbow society wants to hold a gathering, I suggest they try the grain fields of Saskatchewan or Alberta. Lots of room, and the friendly farmers and ranchers will help them “live off the land, man”.
I was a hippy once, till I ran out of money.
They should pick Caledonia, Ontario as their next stop – at least they’d be safe from eviction by the police.
Next year (apparently), Hungary. Or maybe that’s just the European contingent. From FaceBook “2014 World Rainbow Gathering Hungary”:
“The world gathering in Hungary will be from new moon august 2014 to new moon september 2014 , The european family has consensed the dates as the world family vision circle in mexico asked . So it wil be just after the European gathering in Romania which is new moon july to new moon august .There is a strong vision of a cycling caravan between both gatherings and the scouting in roumania will do his best to make both gathering as close as possible .(transilvania in roumania seems to be the focus), There is also the vision of the grow camp (rainbow gardening) , all gardeners are invited on site to start growing march april on the site of the world gathering 2014 as soon as the weather is good for it . The visions of the crystal land after the gathering and the world rainbow caravan going trough europe heading towards africa (portugal ,maroco, west africa )also have been discused and welcome! .”
Jaimie McMaster said: “They should pick Caledonia, Ontario as their next stop – at least they’d be safe from eviction by the police.”
They wouldn’t be safe from -me- though. Note to hippies, stay out of The Phantom’s yard. It just ain’t a safe place to forage.
Still, if they all went to the Douglas Creek Estate site and lived off the INDIAN’S back yards instead, I could get behind that.
But I must tell you Jaimie, you’re wrong. If 20,000 hippies showed up at the DCE and camped there, the OPP would have them out within 24 hours. The Army would be called out, cattle cars would be brought, fire hoses would be used.
Because hippies is -White- people, and therefore not a protected group.
John the amazing doofus said: “…but the funny thing here is that so many of you who worry about the damage a few thousand hippies will do, don’t worry about what a pipeline will do.”
20,000 hippies trying to “live off the land” will do more damage in a month than a pipeline will -ever- do. I know math isn’t your strong suit Johnny baby, but just try to figure out how many cords of wood 20,000 idiots will burn in a month of cooking and trying to stay warm. Or how many tons of poo they will create. Or how many dump trucks full of garbage they’ll leave behind.
It would be as if locusts had descended. Not a stick would remain.
The hippies in that group don’t care one iota about the environment. They just want to gather and talk to each other about how Reptilians have invaded all the worlds governments and magical alien cities under Mount Shasta and how David Suzuki is the most dreamy man alive and other such patten non-sense.
Indiana Homez admires your use of 3rd person perspective when commenting.
I suggest they go visit Dr (Fruitfly) Suzuki. I hear he has lots of west coast land that he could share with like minded simpletons.
They won’t be welcome in Tofino if that really is their plan. This smells like Quebec berry picker invasion all over again. Until the rains come downtown Victoria will be filled with these idiots.
I remember the filth and squalor of a refugee camp I passed by in Macedonia when I was on my way to Kosovo in 1999. Somehow I think the hippies will leave the same kind of mess behind after they mass a whole bunch of people into a small wooded area.
Dan, when was the last time you were up here?
You don’t know the area.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha!
I feel the same way about this as I do about, oh, the Nationalists and Republicans in the Spanish Civil War or the pro-Assad and anti-Assad sides in Syria right now:
They all deserve each other.
