In any case, it’s all over for the MSM. When I started at Time in 1981 under its last great managing editor, Ray Cave, it was commonly acknowledged that the Big Seven media outlets decided what was and was not news for the American public: the New York Times, the Washington Post, Time, Newsweek and the three broadcast networks. Today, not so much. In their place have come the small furry mammals of the Internet, harassing and ultimately supplanting the Manhattan- and Washington-bound dinosaurs. Somewhere along the line, Sousa’s Washington Post March turned into a march of the falsettos. The old media continued to bleat, but once they proudly jettisoned the outdated notion of at least nominally “objective” journalism in favor of “higher truth” and partisan cheerleading, their audience abandoned them.

The irony is that many mainstream journalists spent the better parts of their careers striving to become opinion journalists and talking heads instead of grubby reporters, and all of a sudden they find themselves in a democratized world in which everybody is a talking head and opinion journalist.

Guess the asteroid hit anyway.
Print , Radio or TV. To steal Kate’s message :
Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me “what Canadians think”. In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio – “You don’t speak for me.”
That would also apply to print and ignoring that is at their own peril. They seem to be slow learners.
“Today, not so much. In their place have come the small furry mammals of the Internet, harassing and ultimately supplanting the ….”
Gee whiz Kate! Sounds like he’s talkin ’bout you!! And he be right!
No one will weep for these liars who have misled generations of people by deceit, or omission, of the reality of this World. For Collectivist fantasy. The Unicorns are finally goring themselves.
When Stalin was a big name they lauded him. Mugabe was the Savour of Africa. Mandella the new Moses of racial harmony. Hitler a great economist.
Look how it all turned out. Mass Murder hidden by these maggots of myth.
The so called intelligentsia of journalism is just a common bawdy house full of decrepit whores of totalitarianism.
The mammals in the end will win.
The trouble with being a professional “opinion journalist” is that you are imminently replaceable. Maybe not Charles Krauthammer, but most certainly Heather Mallick, whose shrill and fact-free yammerings embarrass even the Toronto Star.
Smalldeadanimals.com is my first source of news in the morning! I abandoned TV news decades ago. Watched O’Reilly for awhile and still do on occasion but he can be hard to take at times. There are some pretty critical thinkers here and I enjoy their opinions.
“The so called intelligentsia of journalism is just a common bawdy house full of decrepit whores of totalitarianism.”
Has Revnant Dream got it or what?
Many, even here, don’t believe how right he is…..in crushing majority cases quite literarely.
The Lame Street media just can’t see the change coming because they refuse to get up off their knees and wipe the secular progressive drool off their face.
Faster, faster. Next we go for the university professorial kulaks . . . They are even worse, they have brain washed and infected a couple of generations.
Walsh sez:
“…the newspapers the Right loves to hate — the Washington Post and the New York Times — upside the head with a righteous shillelagh simultaneously….”
Even he can’t get away from left and right. Can’t admit that it is the propaganda that the population doesn’t care about, only the ideologues. The plebeians simply want the truth.
He is right though about “…I guess the One Percent really is the personification of all evil and inequality in this country — until it comes time for one of them to bail out a liberal institution. …
Heh, uniquely qualified, one percenter filthy rich socialist scum. (other filthy rich don’t count)
Apology for the maxims, it at times feels good.
” In their place have come the small furry mammals of the Internet, harassing and ultimately supplanting the Manhattan- and Washington-bound dinosaurs.”.
And in the real world, small, furry mammals took over from the reptiles known as dinosaurs.I only pray it will keep progressing this way.My question is,how many exploding leftard heads can small, furry mammals dispose of?
I love the shout out to Kate. He obviously reads SDA.
Next … forcing the news gathering liars and cheats to fess up and smarten up.
So they’ve kept their personal decline in-house. How very “progressive”.
Revnant Dream, I’m stealing the “maggots of myth” line.
That should read, “In their place have come the small dead furry mammals of the Internet …”
One very important point: There is no such thing as “higher truth”. There is only “truth”. Lose objectivity, lose truth.
What to do with unemployed professional agitators.. what to do. Soros’s payroll must be getting a little hefty lately, even for him. And then there’s the new domestic broadcast wing of VOA, or Al Jazeera, RT or PressTV. Or maybe they’ll become bloggers. Self publishing on the Kindle is getting pretty easy too. CBC’s probably still hiring.
The reference could be to smalldeadanimals, but let’s not forget Blazing Cat Fur as well.
Well, one thing is for sure, we are gona see how deep the left’s pockets are, because if they want to continue publishing socialist liberal lying progressive communist propaganda they are gona have to pay for it themselves.
If you want a real eye-opener, pick up a copy of Bruce Herschensohn’s ‘An American Amnesia’. A chilling account of how the Democrats and their willing MSM toadies manipulated the news and ultimately public opinion during and after the Vietnam War.
As the newspapers die out, reporters can still help the socialist cause by becoming teachers, government workers, or union organizers. I doubt many will make it in what remains of our private sector.
The weight of the BS is going to collapse the MSM eventually, soon I hope.
