Reader Tips

Try as we may to avoid controversial and touchy topics, there are times when they simply must be addressed in song. Tonight, Boulder, Colorado-based nonet The Serendipity Singers broach one of the most serious and difficult real-world issues, that of the inevitable connection between personal choice and consequences: From 1964, here’s Beans In My Ears. 1. Disturbing article about how the government is ramping up Canada’s involvement in the international WoD. Harper really is a freedom-hating idiot.
This has included deploying Canadian military surveillance aircraft, naval vessels and even submarines throughout the Caribbean and East Pacific to help U.S. drug interdiction missions.
National Defence reports that the total cost of operations in the region has increased from $25.3 million in 2008-09 to an estimated $282.2 million this year, while the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development has also contributed millions of dollars for police training and other anti-drug efforts.

  2. LAS – Stopping hard drugs is not being a “freedom hating idiot”. Your petty brand of emotion-based politics is all too obvious. Please spare us a day or so without your worthless comments.

Oh really… that’s bullshit and you know it.
If this forum became nothing more than conservatives agreeing with each other it would be a very boring place to visit.

  4. oh c’mon. You’ve posted here enough to know that sometimes something that look harmless sometimes get caught in the spam filter. If whatever you posted does not get cleared and you can point to a clear reason why then go ahead and bitch, but now…spare me the faux outrage.

  5. Nope… this was posted after about a dozen tries with changing and editing nearly every word. If a message is rejected, we should be told why in ‘preview’ so we don’t make that mistake again.

  6. The author of the article you linked to started her career with the National Examiner so some of the factual claims she makes should be taken with a grain of salt. I am as right wing as they come but I gotta say some of the anti comments over on the Shiny Pony thread leave me shaking my head in wonderment.

Yeah, I noticed the same. Some people can’t see when they become just as bad as what they’re railing against. Anyone who lowers themselves to personally attacking and name-calling an elected representative just because they have different beliefs, has only demonstrated extreme ignorance and intolerance.

  8. So while the potheads race around burning their phone bills, scrubbing their hard drives(with sponges)and re-re-re hiding their stashes, I would like to offer a sobering couple of articles regarding the recent events involving the NSA.
First this, good notes on selective outrage.

Hey thanks for proving my point so quickly.

  10. NEW YORK (Reuters Health) – Farmers who used weedkillers were more than twice as likely to be treated for depression than farmers who didn’t use the chemicals in a new study from France.

As part of a study on Parkinson’s disease, Weisskopf and his colleagues assessed the risks for depression with exposure to any kind of pesticide by surveying 567 French farmers about their use of fungicides, insecticides and herbicides.

when the researchers took into account factors linked with depression, such as age and cigarette smoking, they determined that those farmers exposed to weedkillers were nearly two and a half times as likely to have had depression.
Furthermore, farmers who had greater exposure – either more hours or longer years using herbicides – also had a greater chance of having depression than farmers who had used weedkillers less.

Then move on. I would rather a group of like minded folks than having to read left wing pinko socialist drivel. If I wanted that, I would go to the CBC.

  14. Kate, north of 60 makes a good point here: “If a message is rejected, we should be told why in ‘preview’ so we don’t make that mistake again.”
If a person is inadvertently using a word on your spam filter list, then the same code that flags the comment should explain why. This would be particularly helpful to people new to SDA who may be unaware that there is a list of banned words.

  15. Ottawa fears several thousands of dollars went to supporting the Hizbul Mujahideen

A forensic examination determined the pictures of men performing relief work with a banner depicting ISNA Development Foundation in the background had been doctored after they were taken, specifically around the banner.

Further clouding how charity money was spent overseas is the fact that many of the ISNA Development Foundation’s business records are missing.

MayDay MayDay: 22 polar bears drowned. NOT.
“The Huffington Post launched a Facebook photo today headlined “North Pole Before & After Melting. Now THIS is a wakeup call!” It showed a before and after photo of what was supposedly a webcam at the North Pole, linking to a story that they got from The Atlantic.”
    …-
“UPDATE: I received a reply via email from Roger Anderson, who is one of the webcam scientists at the Universtiy of Washington. I had asked him if the media was using the webcams that were NOT at the North Pole, but rather drifting southward. He replied: “Yes, they are. The approximate position of the webcams today (obtained from PAWS Buoy 819920) is 07/25/1500Z 84.773°N 5.415°W.” This is even further south than I had placed the buoy, because the data I had was one week old. This puts the webcam at approximately 350 miles south of the North Pole, closer to Greenland than Santa Claus! So no worries, folks, the North Pole is not melting.”

  17. Interesting video. Usually when it’s time to shoot, they all shoot.
1 officer 3 rounds… same officer 4 rounds then 1 then 1 to finish the clip. After this… the subject is tased. Even if this guy was on pcp Lucy, there’s gonna have to be some ‘splainin’ done on this one.

  18. Clearly, French farmers are depressed, because their crops are riddled with weeds, and the weed killer they apply has no effect because the tree-hugging enviro lobby has managed to get any effective weed killers banned from use. /

  22. I will not reveal what words are in the spam filter
Why not? It would make it easier for us to avoid using them. Nothing I stated in the rejected message was hate filled or a personal attack. I question the selection of ‘spam filter’ words.

That’s illogical and inconsistent with the information published in the article. The farmers who DO NOT use herbicides would have more weeds, and they had a lower rate of depression according to the study.

  24. The farmers who don’t use herbicides simply don’t care, Northie.
