“When the president does it, that means that it is not illegal”

Peggy Noonan;

…what landed was a bombshell. And Democrats know it. Which is why they are so desperate to make the investigation go away. They know, as Republicans do, that the chief counsel of the IRS is one of only two Obama political appointees in the entire agency.
[…]
In April 2010, Hull was assigned to scrutinize certain tea-party applications. He requested more information from the groups. After he received responses, he felt he knew enough to determine whether the applications should be approved or denied.
But his recommendations were not carried out.
Mr. Hull told House investigators that at some point in the winter of 2010-11, Ms. Lerner’s senior adviser, whose name is withheld in the publicly released partial interview transcript, told him the applications would require further review:
Q: “Did [the senior adviser to Ms. Lerner] indicate to you whether she agreed with your recommendations?”
A: “She did not say whether she agreed or not. She said it should go to chief counsel.”
Q: “The IRS chief counsel?”
A: “The IRS chief counsel.”

More: Reaction from Congressman Trey Goudy.

  1. So with this administration what will happen?
Rug up, broom sweep, rug down-now find something really serious to “Treyvon about”.

  2. The noose is slowly tightening about the necks of this radical ideological administration. However, make no mistake, in contrast to the Nixon episode, the media is firmly in the trenches for Obama’s commissars.
I do really appreciate Congressman Trey Goudy, and he would make a great candidate for higher office.

  3. we should be getting in depth coverage of this disturbing news in about 3 months on ABC/CBC/CBS/CNN/NBC etc.
and they will frame it as GOP fear mongering.

  4. this IS an impeachable issue, butt can the GOP’r put their bibles down long enough to pay attention to the issue. McBrain can’t even answer questions on his own legislation. Me thinks the USSA is doomed

  5. Did anybody doubt that the orders came from the White House? If so, all I can say is “you obviously haven’t been paying attention”.

  6. It is an impeachable offense, but I’m not holding my breath. Remember how everyone but Bill and Shrillary went to prison in the ’90s? Look for Obama to imitate their behaviour, he will remain unblemished with the help of the lame-stream media while all his co-conspirators will fall on their swords.

  7. I think the G.O.P. recognize the need to start with the people in the know and work their way up. The committee started with this scandals, John Dean of Watergate fame, in Ms. Lerner(sic) who fell into the same trap as Dean.
She will be summoned without Fifth Amendment Rights and will either go to jail; spill her guts with or without immunity; or spend at least as much time in jail as the guy taking a hit for the Benghazi screw-up.
    She will fold! it doesn’t matter what gender a person is, those without principles may rise quickly in a political situation, but if their butt is in a sling they will scurry like a little animal for the best shelter they can find. Cheers;

  8. Lois Lerner should be charged with abusing the power given to her by the people of the United States. And then judged by a group of her peers. I suspect she’ll then be headed to prison, unless she chooses to reveal who in the Obama Administration directed her to do what she has done. If she opts to tell all, I would highly recommend she check the brake lines in her car every time she drives it.

  9. Valerie Jarrett. Her name will probably be mentioned. If so, here comes the bus. And if she sees it coming…all bets are off.

  10. Now we know – Barack’s hand-picked no. 2 appointee at IRS organized the actions stopping Tea Party groups, and his name is William Wilkins.
His actions prevented Americans from organizing to participate in the nation’s civic processes. This is a very serious infringement of their civil rights, and their should be immediate lawsuits against him personally, in Federal lawsuits from all those harassed by him. Forget the Congressiobal Republicans, including Gowdy, they sat on their hands as long as they could, hoping the Tea Party would be stopped by Obama’s IRS. Now is the time for Wilkins to face the music.

  11. “It was Maryland’s Rep. Elijah Cummings, the panel’s ranking Democrat, who, absurdly, asked Ms. Hofacre if the White House called the Cincinnati office to tell them what to do and whether she has knowledge of the president of the United States digging through the tax returns of citizens. Ms. Hofacre looked surprised. No, she replied.
It wasn’t hard to imagine her thought bubble: Do congressmen think presidents call people like me and say, “Don’t forget to harass my enemies”? Are congressmen that stupid?
Mr. Cummings is not, and his seeming desperation is telling. Recent congressional information leads to Washington—and now to very high up at the IRS”
Obviously, the Dems are worried otherwise they wouldn’t ask such a stupid question. What they are really worried about is the fallout from the recognition that the “Obama-Nation(tm)” made the targeting call…
He simply wanted to “ice” the Tea-Party as political foes and used the IRS as part of his hitman tool chest.

  12. Rep. Cummings might be that stupid, after all it was a Democrat who was worried that the Island of Guam would capsize if too many Americans airmen were deployed there.
Most likely, he was very cunningly fishing for a soundbite.
    Q. Did the White House ever call your office?
    A. No the White House never called me.
That soundbite will be broadcast repeatedly by the demonrat party spin machine as proof that there was no White House involvement. The IRS chief council is being setup to take the fall.
Remember that it was the four knights who were excommunicated for killing Thomas Becket, and King Henry never was punished. “Who will rid me of this turbulent priest/tea party movement?”

  13. Al – shame on you, misquoting an elected Democratic official like that.
What Hank Johnson said what the Island of Guam would tip over and THEN capsize. Do try not to minimize Democratic stupidity in the future. 😉

  14. Yeah well, I’ll give ya a bit of free legal advise.
    1) courts do not and cannot attribute much merit to personal testimony…..the famed eye-witness is not much help.
    2) If’n it ain’t written down it never happened.
The Clintons skated because they had learned from the Nixon/Watergate thingy…..word of mouth leaves NO PAPERTRAIL.
Then there is the prospect that these were the actions of zealous obamabots…..doing what they deemed was wanted/needed.
My opinion is that noboby can lay a glove on OBOZO….
Even if the DemoncRAT Senate would (and they won’t) entertain an impeachment trial, there are no acceptable grouds to impeach.
That’s why the MAFIA is still in business.
    Tain’t right, tain’t wrong, just is……

  15. Actually it’s entirely possible that Trey Goudy would suck at higher office compared to how good he is in this current role. (Of course the only way to find out is to risk finding out, and if he stays where he is we risk not finding out that you are right.)

  16. This too will go the way of Fast & Furious, Benghazi, The Journalist probing, the Intrusion into Americans lives by the NSA.The many humiliations, intrusions of personel dignity, visited by the TSA.
It will fade & die in the chocking waters of a compromised press. A witless Congress. An obese limp Republican bacchanal of self interest.
The apathy of a Nation on the road to oblivion.

  17. Obozo is the only one telling them what they want to hear so you can be your red and blue bippy that he’s going to keep on doing just that. Running the crap out that he did today should be grounds for impeachment. A 170 lb. MMA kind of guy pounding a mans head against the concrete while saying “you’re going to die tonight” and it’s all about race? The man is a complete and utter idiot and the Obamagazmic sycophants are somehow even worse. Ugh!! Just listening to him leaves a foul taste in my mouth.

  18. Occam,
I wouldn’t think Paul Craig Roberts has much credibility these days, after writing a book with the ridiculous title “The Failure of Laissez Faire Capitalism”.
From one Amazon review by Johannes Maruschzik:
“Roberts describes the social, political, and economic dispossession that is occurring throughout the West. The citizens in the Western democracies are being forced into acceptance of the agenda of a small oligarchy of powerful private interests. The ‘free’ media, ‘democratic’ governments, and most economists serve the ruling private interests. Let’s face it: Private power can be just as abusive as public power. The worst-case scenario is when both are working hand in hand, what, in fact, is happening in the Western democracies today.”
That isn’t laissez-faire capitalism being described, that’s its opposite, “crony capitalism”. Most people understand this fairly simple fact, but it appears that Paul Craig Roberts doesn’t.
