  1. DFO probably on route to check for fish. Don’t try to pump out the field or you could wind up with a massive fine.

  2. Climate change!
Do the towns of Arcola and Kisbey still have a hockey team called the “Arcola-Kisbey Combines” that used to play back in the 60’s?

  3. yah still won’t be able to water ski in Saskabush, you may have the water now butt there ain’t no hills there:-)))

  4. Wow! I can still remember that freight train roaring sound that accompanies a hail storm like this.
petrerj, exactly. They better pump at night.

  5. 100% wipeout, injured cattle, home damage and flooding, of course.
Kisbey sits at the edge of a range of hills called the Moose Mountains, on what was an ancient lake bed.
This is the view from the top of the hills looking south, from a vantage point east of Kisbey.

  6. Travelling through south of Lethbridge yesterday in the Raymond area and came across quite a stretch totally hailed out. Nothing left of crops, which you could tell had been very good as bounded on either side.
Probably happened a week ago or so as stuff was drying off. Some poor saps trying to make silage in an attempt to salvage something. A miserable swath to start with, and not much green in it either. Not exactly what you’re after in making silage!
Beware of the Great White Combine!

  7. Sorry to hear of the rough weather. We’re still cleaning up from our disaster especially in High River and Siksika. Hope everyone’s safe.

  8. “Do the towns of Arcola and Kisbey still have a hockey team called the “Arcola-Kisbey Combines” that used to play back in the 60’s?”
Yup. The Arcola-Kisbey Combines competed in the Big Six Hockey League in 2012-13.

  9. I wonder, was the damage wide spread or localized as is the norm in this type of storm. Would crop insurance cover this type of (act of God) event ?

  10. Seems like this system is moving west to east , the flooding rains from alberta all the way to toronto and same with this hail and rain storm!! crazy!

  11. Well it appears this particular system is passing through Northern Ontario…Timmins and north.
Here in South-Western Morontario, our weather is the home grown lake effect variety.

  12. Don’t think the record has been surpassed yet, 10 inches of rain in 3/4 hour. About half of it hail. Buffalo Gap, Sk. 1961, I think…
The water even piled up on the hillsides, couldn’t run away fast enough. Looked like waves on the ocean.
    The public treasury wasn’t affected…

  13. Just flew through that, we had to go to 42,000′ (pressurized 41,000) to get around it and yet still the anvil head was above us at ~43,000. Was a huge storm.

  14. Government Crop insurance would cover it to the level that the farmer insured it. As well, if they purchased Municipal Additional Hail and or hail insurance from a private company they would be covered to that extent.
If the farmer had only one field hailed out government crop insurance would take into account the average of all the fields in that particular crop.
But, in every case each insurance coverage barely covers the expenses, depending on the level of insurance purchased. If more than one coverage, or even two or three, was purchased the farmer might even be ahead, but the premiums would be costly and not be worth it on an annual basis.

  15. I heard it toppled some pumpjacks and took a treater off its foundation , tornado conditions.
