I liked the Clark “We will govern as though we have a majority…”
I consider myself to be seriously unbiased and have voted with many different parties and across the spectrum over the years and despite what I have heard from websites, friends, or liberals, I have not seen the side of the this man that they tend to portray. He seems to me to be a rather honest and normal prime minister. Every government eventually gets voted out and someone else takes his spot, but being a political junky for most of my life, this is the first prime minister I have ever thought could just as well be me. How he treats and is treated by his family tells a lot about the man.
Ah, the “scary Harper” I’ve read about in the MSM for all those years – it turns out his teenaged son isn’t even scared of him.
Of all the Canadian and American political leaders in my lifetime (and probably long before), Stephen Harper is the one man I feel I have something in common with, the one I’d be most comfortable sitting down with to have a coffee or a beer.
He’s also the leader for whom I have the most respect.
Yeah well, it’s heartening to have empircle evidence that the “scary Harper” has a sensa haw haw….
If it was anyone else it woulda been attributed to some degree of McAlymism.
I’ll go with the Dief the Chief impression followed by a close second Preston Manning.
Yep, you knew that “Scary Harper” meme would’ve published a picture of him sporting red horns emanating from his head if they could get away with it. Well maybe the Red Star would try that…with their coloring book political commentariat.
Cheers

I would love to see his impressions of the media talking heads, that would probably get the voter majority he deserves.
The CBC coverage of Stephen Harper is as fair and balanced as the Toronto Stars tales of Rob Ford.
This was great to see!
Now if only he would bypass the MSM, who hates him because he is not a progressive, and talk directly to the people on a regular basis. And maybe sing a son or two. 🙂
National Newswatch made a serious mistake showing this – what were they thinking?
PMSH as Mr. Normal with a sense of humor – pretty much what i figured him to be. I’m not thrilled with the way he’s let things slide lately but i have faith he’ll get a handle on the malaise in the fullness of time.
Pssst…here’s the scoop on the scary Harpers…the offspring of someone I know worked as a grass cutter at 24 Sussex…on the hottest of summer days the Harpers gave out frozen Mr. Freeze to the yard staff…how’s that for living large?
Not the best impressions I’ve seen but for an economist and supposedly upright politician he’s pretty damn good. Thankfully he didn’t attempt to do a Liberal or NDP leader or it would have been the scandal de jour because of mean-spiritedness or something. Like most commenters, I liked the reaction of his family. They seem pretty normal considering the pressure of being PM.
As someone who has experienced PMSH in person for over ten years now I can say I’m not the least surprised by this. He has demonstrated exceptionally dry and well-delivered humor on several occasions.
He’s a very sincere and warm person in a very reserved – dare I say – Canadian way.
It’s no secret that at core he is extremely introverted. But over the past decade or so he has worked against this tendency and the difference between now and then is very remarkable.
You are absolutely right Fredd. I would love to sit and have a beer with Steve while watching a good game of hockey.
Now I want to see him do I’m-Peter-Mansbridge-and-you’re-not and the Shiny Pony.
That Ben Harper’s cute. I hear he’s also an excellent hockey and basketball player.
This is the Harper family the way the hyena media doesn’t want us to see them. If they were Lib$ or NDPer$, they’d be on every magazine cover in the country, many times a year.
I remember being at his launch for leadership of the Conservative Party. He was very wooden and stiff then. How he has evolved.
Hey, if you think Harper’s good, you guys should see Justin Trudeau do Castro,Stalin, Chairman Mao, Pol Pot, Idi Amin, and Ed Sullivan.
A show stopper. Really.
This is disgraceful conduct by a Prime Minister, and I will never vote for him again after this scandal!
I mean, who the hell does he think he is,Rich Little?
While I want my political leaders to be serious people, this video certainly shows a more ‘everyday person’ side and I’m sure is appreciated by us all. What is even more important about this video, as someone else pointed out, is the obvious comfortable relationship between Stephen Harper and his family.
I’m sure the media elite will comment that Harpers being disrespectful to those being impersonated but then this is the same bunch that demonstrate disrepect for ordinary Canadians everytime any of them open their mouth or turn to their keyboard.
Well done Mr. Harper, all Canadians need to ocassionally see what our leaders are really like in a way that we can relate to on an everyday basis and you`ve done it with this video.
That’s funny, wonder what kind of impressions he can do of the Ottawa Media Bubblettes?
Very enjoyable.
Why is it just coming out now? It’s 2 years old!
Love it!
That was very funny and charming at the same time. Ben and Laureen were great ‘extras’ and the audience could sense the normal family life that they lead. Ben slapping his Dad on the shoulder and his Dad ignoring him and continuing on with a monologue was too easy and smooth to be a rehearsed stunt, IMO.
Thanks for posting this lance. I liked the Diefenbaker impression the best probably because I liked the Dief best as PM. I wish PMSH had done a Paul II with guitar!
Wow! I love it, he is such the card! Love the family too!
Charming. The interraction between Harper and his son was very telling. Clearly each are very comfortable with one another. That shows a lot about the character of the man (and his son as well).
Hi-larious! Almost made me forget he’s an autocratic tool. It’s like somebody planned the release of this video so as to fool the rubes into liking him again.
Looks like it worked.
Funny video – Harper looking relaxed and having a laugh.
Though the YouTube comment thread appears to have attracted an inordinate number of scuzzy, lunatic lefty Harper haters.
My wife and I were recently in the company of about 50 conservative Americans. They all agreed that the only world leader they had any use for was Stephen Harper.
John: “It’s like somebody planned the release of this video so as to fool the rubes into liking him again.”
Apparently National Newswatch released the video. They’re not exactly pro-Harper. You might want to adjust your analysis.
Why not ask for the sun and the moon, batb?
At least he was being intentionally funny unlike some politicians who try being serious but end up looking ludicrous.
Paul Adams or some other left-wing media shill was on the other day (still!) about the “weird” or “creepy”, or some such, school-yard handshake between Ben and Stephen in 2006. Whatever gets you through the night, I guess, as Mr. Steyn would say.
I rather think that Stephen might be a little bit “hen-pecked”, actually: wife, son and daughter pulling him in three different directions at once, when he’s trying to do something in his own space. Sort of reminds me of my own late father at about the same point in his life.
And John, while I agree with some parts of your comment, I’m surprised that you missed the obvious beat: why, just the other week you asserted that a backwards swastika was “evidence” of how neo-Nazis can get their own symbolism wrong (which assertion turned out to be wrong, of course, at least in the case you presented); I would have thought that you would gone for the equally woeful and implausible trope that the Diefenbaker impersonation was actually an impersonation of Richard Nixon. Much more in keeping with the approved narrative, no? Never mind, I’m sure one or another media lackey will pick it up.
His performance at the NCC – playing the piano and singing “I get by with a little help from my friends” was great too but people forget.
John, have you ever met Stephen Harper? I have. This is how he actually is. I met him while I was in Afghanistan during one of his visits. He was very polite and personable. Unlike Chretien who I thought was rude, arrogant, and dismissive when I met him. Just the kind of leader that a pre-fab slave leftist would love since you are never happy unless you have a REAL autocrat in power who will run your lives from womb to tomb because you are too ignorant and childish to make decent, responsible life choices for yourselves.
