john g, in the comments;
2009: CBC Refuses to run CPC anti-Ignatieff attack ads. “We’ll only accept political advertising like that when there is an election campaign on,” he told Canwest. “We have generally pretty strict guidelines.”
2013: Justin Trudeau’s “teacher” ad aired on CBC’s Hockey Night in Canada during the Ottawa/Philadelphia broadcast tonight, at least once. I must have missed Stephen Harper’s visit to Rideau Hall earlier today.

Mothercorpse is a devout Liberal party sycophant – so much so it is unspoken wisdom within the media community that the CBC is a free advertising venue for the party. That partisan bias alone breeches their mandate and commissioning mission statement – the plug should have been pulled long ago – it is obscene that a public broadcaster, commissioned to represent and reflect the ideas and attitudes of ALL Canadians has devolved to a public funding black hole with such narrow biased optics.
I have talked to friends and acquaintances who loved/laughed at the CPC Justin ads, many were liberals, most were moderates and a few were labor-leaning people – the point is that the grass roots realities of this nation are no longer reflected in CBC programming, policy or editorial discretion.
It was a public service. It gave the audience time to grab a sammich, take a leak and refill their beers. It also gave the CBC a very rare opportunity to profit from the stupid people they cater to.
In the past the CBC pigs have slopped up voraciously at the liberal party public money trough, now they still have the billion plus for their undermining of Canada, but they just don’t get the big free partys and all the bling that stinking lying liberals used to throw on public money, like the Obongos do down south do now, and that is driving all those limpies nuts, they will do anything to “get” Harrrrper. If the millies at the CBC think that airing that fairy ad to beer swilling hockey watchers is a good way to showcase this drama queen, it just shows how out of touch this useless nest of commies and malcontents really is to Canada and all us hard working taxpayers. Defund the enemy Harper!
All of the above.
It’s time to take the bull by the horns — or how about the cojones? — and throw the bums out. NO. MORE. TAXPAYER. DOLLARS. FOR. THE. CBC.
FIRE. THEM. ALL.
You mean the Liberal’s ad could … “backfire?”
She’s the Ombudsman for CBC English Services.
How many Ombudsmans do they have?
I saw the ad yesterday also, but I never watched the Ottawa game. I did watch part of the Montreal/Toronto tilt and part of their newscast.
Rsther Enkins ,the new ombudsman, will likely treat any complaints the same as the two previous ombudsmans. They run interference for the CBC against those complaining.
One example,on a complaint about George S. and his ties with St.Suzuki.
” CBC — but not CBC News — has promoted George Stroumboulopoulos as one of Canada’s leading journalists. CBC News asserts he is primarily a “broadcaster” who occasionally does journalism. His program is not considered a news and current affairs show but “factual entertainment” subject to policy only when it features “journalistic activities.” The policy permits the drawing of conclusions, but the distinction with simply expressing opinions can be blurry. ”
OK,that is as blurry as mud,but the end result is that the CBC was found to be pure as driven snow.
“Rules” are simply in place to give the CBC some semblance of credibility when denying conservatives equal access to the public airwaves. But rules don’t need to be followed when Lieberals are involved. You silly wabbits, you should know that by now.
Sent him an email telling him their hypocrisy stinks.
Here is a page of decisions made by the previous ombudsman,Kirk Lapointe. Esther took over this year.
One of the complaints is about this fellow, Alexandre Trudeau, who was alleged to have shown anti-Israel bias in a documentary about Iran’s nuclear program. The CBC found that there was no bias, shocking.

Justin wasn’t being a bully, so it’s OK. Yes, that’s right, we decided that, so there. Why should we consult you, we’re artistes.
Now send us more money.
This morning (Sunday 28th) the US networks are reporting on Obama’s speech last night to the Washington Press Corps. He described his former self as “a strapping young Muslim socialist”. Curiously, the CBC reported this as a “strapping young socialist”. Evidently in the CBC’s eyes Obama is wrong to use the word “muslim”. Is there no end to the wonderland that the taxpayer-funded state broadcaster lives in?
Take HNIC off CBC and privatize them. Who cares whether they live or die
OMG, wallyj, please tell me that Esther Enkin isn’t the new CBC Ombuds-toady?
She is the worst. I’ve never had a communiqe from her that either admitted that the CBC had done anything wrong or that didn’t contain a full-throated defense of the CBC’s integrity and exemplary journalistic standards. Gag.
She’s an abomination as an Ombudsman. There is no fair hearing from her, as she’s made up her mind — and it’s iron-clad — that the CBC is above criticism. Her being the new Ombuds-toady is a bad joke.
‘Too bad we’re all paying for it, in more ways than one.
Write her anyway, and tell her what you really think. I just did.
Of course, it won’t be read, and if I hear back at all, it will be with the
usual response. But, WRITE anyway.
Sorry,but yeah.
Esther Enkin, former Executive Editor of Ethics,is the new operator of the merry-go-round ride that masquerades as an ombudsman office in the CBC circus.
I have had dealings with Esther, she is perfect for the job.
Despite widespread angst and many facts and expample of CBC attitude favouring the Dips and Fibs, and the fact that Conservatives in general have great disdain for the CBC, why has the governing party NOT cut the ceeb’s budget dramatically?
If PMSH doesn’t do it, nobody will, and he has been hands off.
One of the big disappointments of the current administration
Yes, but that policy was so 2009. /sarc
That policy persists on their website today. Ad standards say that political advertising is run during general elections.
http://www.cbc.radio-canada.ca/en/reporting-to-canadians/acts-and-policies/programming/advertising-standards/1-3-10/
Note the date the policy was in effect – since 2005.
Maybe it’s because a month after Jeff Keay made that statement, the Supreme Court of Canada said it was unconstitutional for government agencies to refuse to carry advertisments that are “political”. So the CBC would have been forced to change it’s policy against political advertising. Or, maybe, there is an election on right now.
But the vast left-wing conspiracy makes just as much sense.
Slavoj Zizek said it best “Degenerates ! Degenerates !”
Dan BC “why has the governing party NOT cut the ceeb’s budget dramatically? If PMSH doesn’t do it, nobody will”
I harassed Harper after the last election about killing CBC and I’m sure many others did the same. It would make great sense on fiscal grounds alone and would be a double whammy if political grounds were included. Socialism has to be killed incrementally, like it arose. Nobody actually watches CBC but the majority would might support it as an election issue.
From Readers Tips today…this is somewhat related, and I believe needs some ‘attention’:
Plainsdrifter wrote:
CBC.Ca headline: “Paul Martin accuses residential schools of ‘cultural genocide’
My comment on CBC.Ca (I write under “RiverOfTears”) simply said: “If Mr. Martin is so concerned with residential schools, why didn’t he deal with the problem while he was PM? The comment was published on 2013-04-26 at 7:49 PM ET.
Within hours, I received the highest “thumbs up” rating with 660. The next morning, my comment was taken off the air. My guess is that the Liberals are under total control of what the CBC publishes.

Wow, bluetech!
Am I surprised? No, of course not. The CBC airs only what they want Canadians to know or see. The CBC = do-only-as-we-say/do dictators.
On our dime.
In caps lock, batb! FIRE. THEM. ALL. Those far left wing hacks are overpaid parasites on the public purse; they mean to do nothing good for our beautiful country or for real Canadians – they just grab our money and operate on auto tune; always tuned on the Communist propaganda channel.
“Nobody actually watches CBC but the majority would might support it as an election issue”
You’re probably right. However, if the majority actually knew about the $1.5 billion annual drain on the treasury, it would be an entirely different story. The $1.5 billion is not a well-known fact and the lefties would certainly like to keep it that way. We have to get the word out every chance we get. As it stands, ignorance of the facts is the biggest weapon in the CBC’s arsenal.
“If PMSH doesn’t do it, nobody will, and he has been hands off.
One of the big disappointments of the current administration.”
Stephen Harper isn’t our Ronald Reagan. He’s our George HW Bush. A competent enough leader, and far better than the alternatives, but really lacking in the “vision thing”. He’s had the majority government for a couple years now but still doesn’t want to rock the boat too much. Now there’s the young, hip challenger looming on the horizon, much like Clinton…
If you are referencing the turdo pup as the young hipster, I.M. you have the wrong President for comparison; the Canadian hipster is much more like the ‘present’ occupant on the White house, IMO.
Harper doesn’t need to privatize the CBC the same way, say, Brian Mulroney needed to. This is the 21st century and the CBC is fading away. The nostalgia and vested interests would cause too much absolute damage to the CPC, so rather than a quick full on cut, he’s just stabbing it a little here and there while it falls apart on it’s own.
Proof positive that this whole “Vast Left Wing Media Conspiracy” is one big, empty, groundless whine with no connection to reality.
Fact: CBC did not air any Liberal, NDP or Conservative ad until October 2009 because it was against longstanding policy.
Fact: CBC changed its policy in October 2009: http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2013/04/29/justin-trudeau-ad-cbc-conservatives_n_3180508.html
Fact: CBC has aired lots of Conservative negative ads, including anti-Ignatieff ads, especially on Hockey Night in Canada.
Fact: CBC has not been asked to air the current Conservative lie, er, whine, er, “ad”.
Fact: You won’t find a bigger bunch of tinfoil hat wearing whiney crybaby liars than hyperpartisan conservatives.
Come back to Earth, connies. Even though reality has a liberal bias, it is not really all that scary.
Here’s the response I got to my short and direct email to the CBC about this:
“Thank you for writing. CBC/Radio-Canada’s policy on political advertising changed on October 15, 2009. We informed the political parties of the change at that time, and have since been accepting ads from all parties outside of election periods.
Political ads aired outside of election periods are subject to our advocacy advertising policy: http://www.cbc.radio-canada.ca/en/reporting-to-canadians/acts-and-policies/programming/advertising-standards/1-3-9/
We hope this information has been helpful and thank you again for writing.
