HSUS, CEO Wayne Pacelle, and ex-employee Scotlund Haisley are defendants in a $5 million federal lawsuit stemming from a September 2009 “raid” on a South Dakota hunting dog breeder. A judge later ruled the raid illegal because the search warrant was wrongfully obtained by an animal control officer who had “intentionally misled the issuing court.”

All of the animal cruelty charges against Christensen were dropped. But he didn’t get all of his dogs back. Some died after they were seized; others apparently were adopted out.
Animal rights extremism is not limited to multi-million dollar activist groups like HSUS – even locally run, rural community shelters can be magnets for zealots, and they often operate hand in hand with these powerful groups. I’ve personally talked to a shelter worker from Estevan, Saskatchewan who volunteered that animal welfare would best be served through the eradication of the family pet, so check out the policies and animal welfare positions at your local humane society before giving them so much as a dime.
I agree, in my case the Lanark Animal Welfare Society (LAWS), is a “no-kill” facility here in rural Eastern Ont. Its the only one, I am aware of in Ontario.

2 Years ago,I found and rescued two feral kittens who where nearly dead found starvation.For whatever reason,the mom had abandoned them. Took them the local SPCA here in Edmonton.Was told they were too young(about 4 weeks old)and to they couldn’t take.They suggested the pound.Went to pound,and was told they would keep them for 1 week,and if not adopted out by then,they would be put down.Told the worker that I had not saved them from starving and coyotes so that they could put them down.I now have two very loving and friendly cats.(and yeah. I know dogs have masters,cats have slaves,heh)
When someone considers the mere possession of dogs as abuse, everything goes downhill from there. We raise and show dogs, sometimes in Kate’s home turf. I have no problem with pet stores in general. Different stores use different sources. I don’t like that some dogs spend their whole lives in crates but I don’t think that it is cruelty per se. Nowadays a big push seems to be against ear and tail docking, again misplaced outrage.
The war against pets is like the war against guns. The self-appointed do-gooders will chip away until Fido is a relic of the past.

..and they certainly think that they have every “RIGHT” to come on your property and “INVESTIGATE”. I told them they could investigate all they wanted, from the other side of the fence. One had the nerve to tell me that she would be going inside my home to examine it to see whether it was fit to accept an adopted dog. I asked whether she was serious or just putting me on. Shortly after that I got a call back telling me that the inspection was not necessary. Going to enter my home and inspect it!!!! Strangers in my home “just having a look”. Not likely.

Not much point, every damn one of them are do-gooder nannies only interested in poking their nose in others business. There’s no shortage of useless dogs and cats anyhow. And the ones not useless don’t need saving.
Maybe PETA is just another ‘arm’ of the Agenda 21 team, Patsplace! The outfit from the UN do not recognize the right to property or privacy. Using animal welfare as the excuse to undermine the welfare of humans. The WHO are of the same ilk; using ‘health’ to undermine the right to decide what type of food, drink or smoke individuals ingest – the WHO steal children, the PETA steal animals.
I think that you’re right on this one, either knowing what they’re doing or more than likely just adding a push and a bit of money here and there to support the Crazy Ones. That’d do it. Encourage a nutter and look out. In their deranged mind they think they’re right and when the get encouragement, LOOK OUT!!
The SPCA in Swift Current has a habit of telling people to just take their cats east of town and drop them off because there are people out there who will take care of them. I got this information first hand from a lady who had tried to take 5 half grown kittens in but was told they were at capacity and was then instructed to take them east and dump them.
BTW, I live east of town and in the past year I have had to shoot over 20 ferrel cats.
Ryan….Isn’t what the SPCA in Speedy Creek telling you aiding and abetting in animal abuse? And just as an aside,if you can get the ferals as kittens,they are very easily house trained and make great pets.Oh wait.Damn.Pets.Are we allowed to have them anymore?
Just thinkin- They never told me this, this was information I got from a lady in town that I did some work for. It certainly explains why we have so many wild cats running around here.
And yes, if this is true, I would say that is a form of animal abuse.
Re: Estevan Shelter Worker. This is not my experience talking with volunteers working at the Estevan Humane Society. I think if that worker’s feelings were known publically, they may no longer be employed there. We have no problems at all making donations to that organization.

I put a “live trap” out in my carport as my garbage was getting ripped to shreds, everything was getting sprayed and there were cat tracks everywhere. In one week I caught 16. The house cats sat there and waited for you to let them out. Right after driving them nuts with a hose, I did. They never came back. The feral cats….well they never came back either. Nasty bloody killers of everything smaller than they are or weaker than they are. I’m sure that they’d take puppies if the bitch wasn’t around.
It’s not like they’re endangered species, so why does every puppy and kitten have to be ‘saved’? If you need a pet, then be responsible with it, and get it neutered.

No Sir! They might sneak in through your back yard – to see if your donkey’s hooves might need trimming…and they’ll certainly slither through your window – to check tartar buildup on your doggie’s teeth.
But, I mean, they don’t need to kick down doors.
That crazed crusader will try kicking in the door of the wrong guy someday and judge colt will save the community the cost and trouble of legally restraining him.
