Paul Watson — founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society — has been sued by Ady Gil … who claims he owned the famous Ady Gil ship featured on “Whale Wars.” Gil claims he let Watson’s organization use his boat, so long as they took care of it.
In his suit, filed yesterday in L.A. County Superior Court, Gil says his vessel was rammed by a Japanese whaling ship in 2010 … and suffered damage to the nose … but the damage was repairable.
According to Gil, Watson saw the collision as an opportunity to spin the incident into a major publicity and money maker for his organization … so instead of towing the boat to port for repairs, he secretly gave an order to sink the ship “under the cover of darkness” … and blamed the Japanese.
I admit to being disappointed. I’d long admired the Japanese for that.

Off-topic, but here is a story for your “Mass Transit” files.

Headline speaks for itself.
Paul Watson, admitted pirate and terrorist. The fool should be arrested and jailed anywhere in the world, although i’d like it to be somewhere like Peru or Mexico. Although I’m adamantly opposed to whaling, his tactics are despicable, putting the lives of the Japanese sailors at risk for his own agrandizement.
Why didn’t he do the honorable thing and, as captain, go down with the ship.
Never mind, he has no honor.
Ships don’t have “noses”, they have bows.
But, otherwise, heh.
Typical Hero of the Eco-nuts.
Do as I say Not as I do.
Cover of darkness.
2013 is starting well hypocrites are outing themselves all over.
Hey, Ady Gil!
If you had a boat, you did not build that! Somebody else made it happen!
I have always wondered why this group chose confrontation rather than something constructive like collecting ,baling and disposal of direlect drift nets. But then after watching one episode of whale wars it became evident this was just more marxist street theatre.this is nothing but giant puppet crap. It was a pity Gil was gulled. but yah lay down with dogs, yah gotta expect fleas.
Ah, yes, I recall that incident – a most salutary exhibition of the law of the sea known as “The Law of Gross Tonnage”.
It’s amusing when cockroaches fight, isn’t it?
I smell a rat. Watson just resigned as head of Sea Shepherd. I think what’s happening is that Watson is resigning because of the lawsuit. Gil can go ahead and sue him for everything he’s got, which is nothing. It protects Sea Shepherd, as Watson will probably claim if found against him that it was all his own action.
Watson doesn’t even deserve to be called a pirate. Marxist sociopath is more appropriate. He belongs in prison.
Gil is a fool for entrusting his property to scum such as Watson.
Everyone is always ticked off with Watson, but those same people who dislike him never complain about the illegal whaling done by the Japanese.
I find the actions of the Japanese despicable, and if Watson and his merry band of leftist warriors are the only ones who are willing to show up and do something about it then so be it.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend…etc.
Whaling isn’t illegal in Japan OR Canada TJ.
Cgh, my thoughts exactly.
The only time I admired the French is when they blew up the Rainbow Warrior and sent a few of the crew home to Jesus.
Paul Watson should be the first winner of the “Al Gore Award for Environmental Heroism”.
Richfisher, whether it is the Japanese pretending they hunt whales for research, or the Chinese killing off rhinoceroses and bears for horns and gall bladders in the laughable name of “medicine”, I think they are all creeps and scum.
Meanwhile we conservatives sit on our asses and do nothing, but then moan and groan when the left steps in and owns the issue.
This is not a case of some enviro-nut tree hugging. There is scientific *proof* beyond *any* reasonable doubt that some of these species are being hunted to extinction. In many cases some species would be extinct where it not for people who cared stepping in to do something about it. This is absolutely true for elephants for example, and all the data is there to prove it.
I have no love for the left, but it does strike me as odd that we complain about their antics when it comes to animal species, yet we don’t do anything about the problems ourselves.
As far as Watson goes, like him or not, he is a more substantial man than someone like Al Gore, who is a pure hypocrite and a thorough con-artist.
Watson is a con artist of the stature of a Theresa Spence. Watson, who once famously claimed he was ,”part Metis”, because it fit the pc agenda of the moment, has scammed millions out of gullible donors for decades.

There’s a good writeup of Watson’s activities at this site.
Well said, Original Rick. VERY well said!
dmorris, all these groups scam millions. PETA, HSUS, Greenpeace, long list. Al Gore is on the list too.
Rich Fisher, the two principal nations engaged in whaling are Japan and Norway. In Canada, it’s allowed by the First Nations.
TJ, I agree with you about the insanity of whaling. But it’s no different than Russian and Japanese factory ships overfishing species all over the world into extinction. They are working in waters, like the whalers, where there’s no jurisdiction. Since none of us want international institutions to have anything like policing power, there’s no alternative but to force the nations to stop.
No,TJ,the “enemy of your enemy”, Paul Watson isn’t your friend,he’s a zealot who will never stop his activism, even if he attains his current goal of stopping the whaling. And I’m anti-whaling,too,but Watson is more about Watson and his self-image as this “noble hero- pirate”.
If he’s going to play that game, I have no problem if the Japanese or Norwegians blow him out of the water, like they always did when dealing with pirates.
How about this alternative; we lobby the hell out of our federal government to bring real pressure through trade boycotts with Japan or any other whaling Nation,if they don”t stop whaling?
Gee, I can come up with half-a-dozen applicable criminal charges without even trying.
I hope the police in several countries are obtaining arrest warrants and undertaking the initial steps for extradition as we speak.
So Original Rick I am curious what exactly is it that you most admire about the French blowing up the Rainbow Warrior?
1. Violating New Zealand’s soverignty.
2. Killing one photographer.
3. Getting caught.
4. Failing to stop the protest of their nuclear weapons testing at Moruroa Atoll.
