    The journalista that wrote the linked article mentions twice that this decision was made the day before a massacre occurred at Sandy Hook School, which has nothing to do with automatic weapon sales to Colombia.
    The journalista states that the Sandy Hook killer “walked into” the school, real journalists say he shot his way in through the front door. I guess in both cases he did use his feet to make way. He gets the number of those killed incorrect (26), and doesn’t appear to be counting the killer’s mother.
    The journalista closes his column by discussing the Conservative government’s repeal of some gun show regulations, which haven’t anything to do with sales of guns to Colombia, and by stating these changes “killed a set of rules” … introduced by the Liberals that had not come into effect. How does something that isn’t in effect, get “killed”?
    He could have mentioned that the majority of FARC terrorists in Colombia use the same calibre AK models as Hugo Chavez sought out to supply his “Bolivarian Circles” groups in neighboring Venezuela. Not likely the same type of machinery exported from Canada.
    I haven’t been able to find his CV / connection to Ryerson / Liberal Party membership.
    If it exists, I’d hide that from public view too.
    Not trying to attack you at all, just reading this from someone that makes his living as a writer left me wondering if he works with any editor. There are hundreds of bloggers in Canada that write better than he does, without the Liberal slant.

    i am a bit confused so i will put it to you all here.
    I read jonah goldberges LIBERAL FACISM and in that he argues hitler was a socialist and that the nazi’s were a left of center party national SOCIALIST party
    However in bloodlands timothy is speaking about the nazis being an ally of the right conservative movment but buddying up to the communists?
    I am confused ET feel free here to help me or anyone else for that matter including you kate.
    YOUR inpute would be much appreaciated thank you.

  15. paul in calgary: fascism and communism are similar; they both privilege the collective and disempower the individual. It’s a common error to say that fascism is ‘of the right’. It’s not.
    Both are collective political and economic ideologies putting the collective Will in control; both are utopian, rejecting the ‘mess of everyday reality and focusing on an idealistic Purity’.
    The key difference between the two, fascism and communism, is that the communist utopia is in the future. A state of purity and perfection will be reached if only everyone (the collective) does such and such. That’s Lenin and Mao.
    For the fascist, a state of purity DID exist, far back in time, and If Only the collective would behave as they used to, then, all will be well. So, that’s Islamic fascism as well as Third Reich fascism.

  16. paul, Hitler used the Nationalist Party to further his ends and banned it as soon as he formed government. Nothing new in that, as all parties across the political spectrum use temporary alliances to undermine the governing political party if they perceive the alliance advancing their cause.

  17. My predictions about Obama’s second term are, for me, worrisome.
    I reject that Obama has any interest in the well-being of America or Americans. Everything he does is always and only about Himself. And his power. I suggest that this need to control and, concomitantly, reduce the freedom and power of others will increase this term.
    I even suggest that he can’t deal with only two terms. He’s going to try for a third and even longer rule.
    With regard to this fiscal cliff, Boehner (and he’s got to go) offered Obama the same amount of tax revenue by changing the loopholes. Obama refused; he wanted the rates increased. That’s the image of ‘Bashing the Rich’ that Obama wants. Not the money; that image of Obama bashing the rich.
    This term, I predict that Obama’s agenda is to increase his electoral base by amnesty for illegals and by increasing those dependent on government funds. Therefore, he’ll increase the national debt ceiling to enable him to bribe more people.
    Then, he’s going to demolish the Constitution. He wants a third and longer term. The first crack in it will be his changing the second amendment. Watch him to this.
    Obama never, ever, works by the use of reason. It’s always emotional manipulation. Always.
    So, his amnesty for illegals will be argued emotionally. His demolition of the Constitution, with the first crack, being the 2nd amendment, will be argued emotionally.
    The debt? Heh – that’s further down the road. Obama doesn’t care about the economy. It’s all about Power. His Power.

  20. Nemo2, right, I agree on both points, but I’m sceptical about the Michelle run.
    That would pit her against Hillary, though I think the Obama gang are getting rid of Hillary right now.
    Obama’s pathological need to control is increasing this term, and I wonder how he’ll, himself, deal with a loss of power as his term ends. I don’t know if retaining it via Michelle would do the trick.
    But I wish that people in Congress would realize that Obama is not a rational person; that he does nothing for the well-being of America or Americans; and that all his actions are about Himself and that pathological need to control.

    I doubt he will try to do an end run around the Constitutional amendment and run for a third term. He COULD run Michelle,and she’d win as long as there IS a Hollywood,and it would all be perfectly legal. George/Lurleen Wallace.
    Liberal propagandists claimed Mulroney would do the same,and there would “never be another election”, and anti-Bush loonies also claimed the same thing.
    The continuity of the system that keeps us in thrall has to be maintained,to the satisfaction of the people behind the curtain, so there is no need for any President to seek a third term.
    There IS a new candidate of the choosing of the powers-behind-the-throne, ready and willing to take HIS or her turn in the sun,and that’s exactly what will occur.

  30. Regarding Obama — it is true that he is a big egomaniac, but I also do not think he is the primary person calling the shots in Washington. To the extent that this is the case, Obama may not be needed for a third term. It will be easy to find someone else to continue his role in dismantling the Constitution and bankrupting the US.
