Academics eh?
Probably minored in Climate Scientology or Victim’s Rights & Social Justice.
Where are all the doctor’s calling for the elimination of music? When studies like these come out about athletes they are all over calling for the end of sports!
This also in: Blues musicians tend to be more depressed while gospel singers have been known to frequent churches.
Is it the sex or the drugs, that does ’em in early?
How DOES one get money to do “studies”,anyway?
I’ll bet that there’s an even bigger difference if you consider only the ones who are known drug abusers. More study is needed. Send the grant money now. By “grant money”, I mean unmarked $50 bills, with serial numbers that aren’t in order (Ulysses Grant’s picture is on the $50 bill, I think).
How do you explain Keith Richards? Or Bob Dylan?…Or was talent part of the equation?
Before you explode re:Dylan…The guy is an awesome songwriter but not a singer.
And although Richards wrote some pretty cool riffs (Satisfaction being one of his best), the guy’s overall playing is very limited. Ever hear him try a guitar solo? BRUTAL!
I’m more interested in the inverse correlation between having a hit song about dying young and actually dying young.
Dylan and Richards obviously live charmed lives!
They’ve both had brushes with Christianity:
* Dylan’s Slow Train Coming and his relationships with black backup singers, who often began singing Gospel, one of whom he married and with whom he had a child;
* Richards’ rock-solid marriage to Patti Hansen who is a devout Christian: A born-again Christian who attends a Bible study group … Hansen doesn’t let her daughters see most movies purported to be for kids their age; she forbids cursing and she preaches abstinence before marriage. As for drugs, Hansen says, “I tell them about the things I’ve done, because I don’t want them to read about me later and be shocked. So I say, ‘When I was drinking a lot, I was dancing on top of bars, acting like a fool. I drank so I could be the life of the party.’ I tell them, ‘You don’t need the crutches.’ People said I was a free spirit. Well, I was out of my mind. In control [professionally], but out of my mind.”

Never underestimate the power of prayer!
Speaking of the power of prayer, does anyone know what time tomorrow the world is supposed to end?
And if it’s say, 1 PM,in what time zone?
LOL, dmorris!
Don’t worry. You’ll know if you find yourself at the Pearly Gates all of a sudden. Check your watch.
There was another study done years ago that discovered bears shit mainly in the woods.
You say:
“…Rock and pop musicians are more likely to die prematurely than the general population.”
I believe the Microsoft response would be:
“That’s not a problem. That’s a feature!”
Hey Iowa Jim, would you settle for $1000 bills bearing a photo of the Chimp in Chief? I expect they would be quite spendable in most major metropolitan areas in the US…
Try listening to Blonde On Blonde or Hwy 61 Revisted and try to imagine someone else’s voice doing the vocals. His voice was as politically incorrect as his message and that was what made the package.
