    Good song–I like the words. I guess nothing ever stays the same. Today I was visiting with an elderly neighbour, a farmer mechanic. He`s rebuilding a late 1940`s toddler`s walker that can be converted to a wagon or a a scooter as the kid grows up. All made of metal and hardwood. (Eaton`s Catalogue, 1949.) He`s got it all painted up in Christmas colours and will have it under the tree. As I was leaving, he asked me, “What kind of walkers do the kids have today?”
    “None, they`ve been banned, kids were falling down the stairs with them” I replied.
    With his wrinkled face and blue eyes he looked at me, frowned and said, “Christ, that`s sad!”
    That it is.

    I want to ask if I should like this idea or not. Talking about saving the environment turns me off, but the point about resources not growing exponentially may be legitimate, or irrelevant. Whenever I hear complaining about debt, I think, “so don’t go into debt! And plug up the doomed loans.” But sums of money created and injected by banks for whatever purpose may be harmful to me.
    Any analysis I should read?

    I truly appreciated the song “Whatever Happened to Christmas?” Thanks EBD.
    Today I visited an 85 year old man who is restoring a circa 1950 children`s walker that is made of metal and hardwood. It was bought from Eaton`s catalogue in 1949 for ten bucks. It can be converted to a scooter and it has a handle to tow the kid around.
    He is a farmer mechanic, he has it all painted up and shining in Xmas colours, he`ll have it under the tree. As I was leaving his shop, he asks me, “What kind of walkers are the kids using these days?”
    I informed him that walkers on caster wheels are now outlawed because kids fall down stairs with them. (I learned many lessons from falling.)
    With his blue eyes and wrinked face he looked at me and frowned. “Christ, that`s sad!” he exclaimed.
    That it is!!

Fox News has plastered the killer’s face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer’s identity? None that I’ve seen yet. Because they don’t sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you’ve just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next.
    You can help by forgetting you ever read this man’s name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news.”

  15. My answer to those libtards who think more gun control is the answer:
    It’s a senseless tragedy, the killing must be stopped. Every day almost 90 people die because someone misused one of these killing machines. They should all be registered, and people should have a license to use one. That would stop almost all the killing for sure. But that’s not enough. Ban the high performance models. It’s common knowledge that even normal people can become crazed killers when they use one of those. Anyone could snap at any instant, the risk to public safety is too great. After all who really needs a car that can go faster than the speed limit, and limit them to four cylinders or less. And ban high capacity fuel tanks, that’s too much explosive for anyone to be carrying with them wherever they go, it just allows them to speed longer before they have to stop and fill up. Too much inconvenience? Is your ‘convenience’ really worth it if we can save the life of even one child? This is just the start to eventually banning all cars. It will save tens of thousands of innocent lives every year, it will stop pollution, global warming, and climate change. Every day will be the perfect temperature, and it can rain overnight. Don’t worry about guns, they kill less than a third of the number that vehicles kill, and banning guns won’t stop global warming. We have to get our priorities straight on this issue. Don’t be selfish, do it for the children, stop the senseless killing.

  21. Here’s an interesting analysis of the strange reluctance of Obama to reform tax codes.
    The GOP suggestion is to reform the tax code to eliminate loophole deductions but to keep the rates low. This would increase tax revenue via ending those deductions but would not harm the small businesses who file as individuals but whom Obama defines as ‘the rich’ because their business gross is over $200,000 per year.
    Obama doesn’t want to reform the tax code. Why, why, why not? Why is he harming the small business community?

    Briefly, in the US, you can deduct your state and local taxes, as well as property taxes and more from your federal taxes. The states with high state and local taxes are primarily Democratic.
    In 2010, the deductions for state and local taxes was about 249 billion and one state, California, claimed 51 billion in deductions.
    These deductions therefore go to the benefit of the wealthy in states with those high taxes. But, they still receive the benefits of the federal government. For example, in California a heavily Democratic state, with its massive use of federal benefits in food stamps and welfare. But, they don’t pay for those federal benefits.

    RE: The school shooting in Newtown, Ct.
    I`m not an expert on human behaviour, but I am considerably older than most people who contribute to this site. When something like this happens, we lash out in anger, trying to find an answer to the insanity. I know–I,m a guy–I do that all the time.
    The guns didn`t kill those kids, an insane person pulled the trigger. He could have just as well driven a car through a crowd of children and killed as many or even more. Are we going to ban cars because one person lost his marbles??
    I think the world needs to down shift a couple of gears and start thinking for a moment.
    Why is no one talking about drugs such as crack that may have warped the kid`s brain?? Naw, it can`t be. Hell, if we`d legalize it, the problem would go away.
    Why is no one talking about alcoholism. I`ve worked as volunteer in a rehab centre. I`ve handled 12 year old kids who were caught driving at 70 MPH when they were drunk. Ah come on guys, we gotta lower the drinking age.
    Why is this kid sitting at home going to school on a computer. What ever happned to social interaction?? Ah come on guys, the teacher was on his case because he showed up late for school every day.
    Well guess what?? On the morning of Feb. 14, 2012, Mr. Homeschooling was a tad late but he did make it to school. Guess its a bit too late now isn`t it. But there is hope for those that are still out there sitting at home playing Grand Theft Auto IV when they should be playing in the school yard at recess.

  30. I’ve tried to post this but it gets caught in the filter. There’s an analysis at the Wall Street Journal on why Obama is refusing to reform the tax code.
    After all, it seems logical to reform the code to reduce the loophole deductions. Instead Obama wants to increase the tax rate on the people he defines as ‘unseemly wealthy’; that is anyone making over, gross, $200,000 a year.
    The problem is that most of these people are not making that amount from salaries (and most of those who DO would be government employees). Most of them run small businesses and this amount refers to their business income; most of these people file as individuals. Rather than as corporations.
    If Obama increases his take and reduces their profits this means they have no capital to invest in updating equipment, expanding the business, hiring another employee. So why is Obama refusing to reform the tax code?
    The analysis is that in the US, you can deduct, along with many other deductions such as mortgage interest, you can deduct the taxes you pay to your state and municipality. You do this to reduce your gross income to its lowest net. Then, you calculate your federal tax on this reduced income.
    In Canada we don’t do that. We calculate our gross income and then, based on that single calculation, we figure out BOTH our federal and provincial taxes. Again, in the US, you FIRST take off both your state and your municipal taxes before you calculate your federal tax.
    So? Well, the states with the highest state and municipal taxes are primarily Democrat. The taxpayers benefit greatly by this tactic of reducing their income. California, for example, got out of 51 billion in federal taxes in 2010. Just by that tactic.
    Even though California is one of the biggest users of federal money in its food stamps and welfare. Paid by people in other states, some of which don’t even have state taxes to use to reduce your income.
    With Obama, it’s all about politics. And the destruction of the economic freedom and strength of the US.
