    He did indicate that the mere presence of his gun once seen by the killer appeared to cause the killer to cease and desist. I wonder now how the Liberal left will try to convict him for stopping the rampage; maybe just charge him with manslaughter for causing the murderer to commit suicide by showing he was armed?

    The mall shooter stopped shooting because he saw Meli with his pistol and then shot himself. The media is ignoring the fact that a fellow with a conceal carry permit stopped the shooter simply by pulling his pistol.
    The rat has it right about the quality of some comments, and as well the personal invective by a few.

    The murderer is dead. It is said that he killed himself after Mr. Meli confronted him, and by extension it appears he didn’t kill any more innocents after that. So, all his victims were killed before Mr. Meli made his possibly incorrect but certainly reasoned decision that he ought not to shoot. How is it then Mr. Meli’s fault that the dead murderer “got away with it”?

  20. The MSM media Holy War on civilian firearms is on again big time. Now with sensationalistic exploitation of a madman’s carnage, without even a a respectful pause for parents to bury their children.
    The CBC chimes in with CNN like they were a branch plant operation, as ideologically they are. They take their cue from the anti-American branch of the U.S. media.
    In an attempt to paint some guns as bad and some as good, they use quotes from “hunters”. While ignoring the fact, that unlike the so called “assault” rifle or semi-automatic .223 calibre rifle, the larger calibre, far more powerful, big game hunting rifles and shotguns, had those been used the fatality rate in shootings would be higher.
    As for magazine capacity, that has no relevance, when no one is shooting back.
    Never reflecting on what sensationalizing coverage of suicides(or murder/suicides) does to increase copycat crimes, the media remains… or as Socrates would put it “The unexamined life is not worth living.”

Well if the left is going to open the gun control (read confiscation) debate again, I don’t think we should give an inch until the gun grabbers admit that our most innocent civilians (kids) are completely open to these terror attacks because there is no protection for anyone in a “gun free zone” one civilian designated as fast response security or a cop in every plave kids are concenttated would stop this in a hurry.
    After a few goblins get dusted trying to make a name for themselves as a mass shooter, they will look for easier targets or just start by shooting themselves.

    Where does Meli say he aimed at the guy and that lead to something happening other than him keeping him in sight? I’m sure the deranged killer must have saw the handgun and Meli hiding behind a pillar (in the TV story), or in a store (in the story) and thought “Oh, poo! Time to off myself. There’s a person I can’t see aiming a gun at me.”

    I don’t think this is solely a gun nut problem, it’s a lot of things, and Hollywood certainly shares part of the blame for creating the gun fetish.

    They are in the schools all day long as a matter of school board policy

  32. Good call not to discharge when the innocent were potentially in the line of fire. Still though, it would be nice to see more law abiding citizens carrying since that would allow for far more better and safer angles at any one time.
    What is obvious is that not only are law abiding gun owners not trigger happy, but the police are rarely on the scene when you absolutely need them( no fault of their own).

  36. The point of this video was that the average gun owner is still human, and taking another human beings life is not an easy decision. They are not trigger happy Yosemite Sam types that will fire first and ask questions later. They understand that guns are tools but can be very dangerous when not used responsibly, this man demonstrated a cool head and was correct in his thinking that he could have just as easily killed another innocent bystander.

My point which you so obtusely ignore is that you, have no idea as to the range, the possible collateral damage or any other of the circumstances of the situation.   39. Bang on confused. What the keyboard Rambos don’t understand is it is one thing to shoot at a target at the range and another to do so accurately in a state of high arousal. During hunting season we used to call it “buck fever”, where a hunter forgets all his precision shooting knowledge and blasts away hitting nothing.
    In stopping the mall shooter, Meli acted with proper restraint.

    No, he didn’t freeze. He did exactly what I trained dozens of soldiers deploying to operations in N.Ireland to do if confronted with an armed terrorist: Notice if there are innocent civilians downrange who could be hurt if you miss or shoot through the target, and hold your fire until you get a clear opportunity.
    Police, and soldiers operating amongst civilian populations, are taught that it is more important to not shoot the innocent than to shoot the guilty. Mr. Meli got it right.

  42. Meli is a very cool customer. Didn’t panic and stayed calm.Best part though, is the shooter stopped and Meli doesn’t have to go through the grinder the LIBERAL MSM would certainly have had waiting for him, if he’d fired.
    All in all, a very good day for him.

  46. If the left were at all concerned about saving kids, they’d be advocating for armed guards at schools. They have no problem spending on public salaries for diversity consultants or every kind of imaginable bureaucrat, but paying armed guards is not an option? There’s no preventing nutcases from getting their hands on one of 270 million guns, or gasoline, or a truck, or anything else that acts as a force multiplier for homicidal urges. And good luck trying to disarm the Americans.

  48. Meli should have taken the course in defensive combat shooting at Jeff Cooper’s Gunsight ranch – if he had there would probably have been less fatalities. If you are hesitant to shoot a living target, you should not carry a gun for defense.
