  1. 13. Bakku-shan (Japanese)
The experience of seeing a woman who appears pretty from behind but not from the front.
But there is! That would be butterface. Which is a corruption of “everything looks good but her face”. Used in a sentence:
    She’s a real butterface.
I beat the internet! What do I win?

  2. 13. It’s little wonder the Japanese invented this word because it applies so often to Japanese (and Chinese) women.
    14. We use the term “Thousand Yard Stare” from the post-Vietnam War experience. But having seen many Kurosawa films, “Boketto” has a unique connection to Japan. It’s like the shock of reliving every pain in every reincarnation of your soul back to Adam.

  3. I dispute that. With a Butterface, the woman is acceptable seen from any angle. The face is the only bit that’s sub-par.
Oh, and consider yourself denounced. How dare you objectify women and such.

  4. Oh, and the Japanese expression applies to the experience of seeing the woman; not to the woman herself. No internets for you sir.

  5. Cotisuelto
That word that means “damn it’s hot and I’m allowing for airflow.
    OR
“I’m exercising my 2nd Amendment Right.”

  6. A list compiled by maroons, mostly. Other words that are more pertinent would include the Afrikaans “lekker”, actually used in S.A. English;
Weltschmerz, Weltanschauung, Weltfremd, Ansatz; half of Yiddish; and of course that essential word, “Schadenfreude” (Schadenfreude ist die beste Freude”).

  7. John Lewis – you beat me to it. “Schadenfreude” is by far the best. The English word that has the same rank to other languages, I’ve heard, is “bafflegab”: terminology used to confuse or obfuscate the meaning of a word or phrase.

  8. In my experience, it seems all languages/groups use “borrow words” despite the efforts of the elites/experts.
The French are champions at this. In an effort to prevent adoption of “jumbo” (regarding the Jumbo jets) the term “Grand Porteur” was coined that failed much like the US attempt to christen the North American P51…”apache”….then gave up in futility after the Brits successfully termed it “Mustang”.
The Brits adopted the word “DEKO”(look at this, look out, pay attention)from Hindi, because it worked so well. Mysteriously it never made it in North American…..Only south asians and Brits understand it……odd we have no such handy equivilant….It is however useful to spook a whack of New Candians….
BTW…according to LaRouse(official french dictionary) bulldozer in french is “le bulldozer”….hee hee…

  9. In the end all words are english words. 800000 them mostly borrowed for ever. Next closest language is czech. With 400000

  10. “Luftmensch (Yiddish) There are several Yiddish words to describe social misfits. This one is for an impractical dreamer with no business sense. Literally, air person.”
That would describe any member of a left wing party.
Socialist, Marxist, Fascist, NDP, Liberal, Democrat, Labor, Labour, Liberal Democrats, and lately, Alberta conservatives.
