Khadr is one of the luckiest terrorists in the world. Fighting with the Taliban against a UN/NATO force supported by over 80 countries, he threw the grenade killing a US medic, a non-combatant soldier. Still the Americans saved his life even rendering world class opthalmic surgery.
This after several appeals to surender.
Suppose he had been captured by regular Afghan army forces, or a group like his own? He would have been dispatched on the spot.
If you are going to play as a terrorist in a 3rd world hell hole, you cannot demand a trial in Canada once caught. This is what Khadr and his apologists seem to want. Even with the 10 years or so in captivity he is still fortunate, much more so than Sgt. Chris Speer.
I think the average, normal person would say that due process will be a good idea when certain people stop flying civilian airplanes into buildings, blowing up train stations, killing girls on their way to school, and destroying cultural treasures. In other words, not very soon.
I also think the average, normal person will find the attitudes of Canadian elitists to be odious and beneath contempt. How’s that for a lack of nuance, sparky? (and call me a yokel one more time, I will ram a pitchfork up your over-used ass).

Just found out this w/e about another so called Canadian family, born in Pakistan, lived here long enough for the whole family to get their citizenship, and have returned to live a wealthy life in Pakistan. And it’s obvious that Omar was in Afghanistan as a tourist just trying to discover himself in travel and just got caught up by accident in a war that came out of nowhere almost a year after 9/11 (the first one not the Libya one) on July 27, 2002.

Khadr should have been shot on the battlefield and we’d have none of this crap from islamofascist adoring lawyers. While the US messed up shooting this POS on the battlefield, I’m sure that there must be at least one patriotic Millhaven inmate who ensures that Khadr accidentally trips and falls in the showers and smashes his head on a cement wall a few dozen times.
LAS, for murder in Canada “minors” are usually charged in adult court so lets not have any of this “he was a minor” BS. Also, the whole concept of “young offenders” works on the illogical assumption that kids don’t know better. Back when I grew up one was deemed not to be capable of criminal intent under the age of 12. A few kids I knew when growing up made sure they did all their B&E’s before they turned 12 as they knew damn well they couldn’t be charged criminally.
The picture that would have accurately described poor little Omar that should have been on the front page of an honest newspaper would have been the one were he is holding up the 2 severed hands! Loki: some fair points but I’m still uncomfortable. You can try a youth as an adult OR try an adult in a military ‘justice system’, but both is abuse.
We have different sentences for the young for a very good reason, basically the same reason we have them for the mentally infirm. We have chosen 18 as the cutoff for adult responsibility. And more importantly, the Canadian state is morally and legally obligated to advocate for respect of Khadr’s due process rights.

If he’s not happy here, he’s more than welcome to go back to Gitmo. He plead guilty. If there is any whining about innocence, send him back to Gitmo for a perjury trial. Whether he was guilty of a particular murder, being armed on and willing to kill is enough. The normal charge for aiding in a murder is murder.
Good point Scar. Personally I was in the militia humping an FN-C1 across Petawawa at 17, so 18 seems a pretty arbitrary number.
Of course in Khader had blown up a paramedic at Young and Bloor when he was 15 he’d most likely be out now.

The silver lining is that they will most probably nest in or around Canada’s loony home base of Liberalism. Therefore the LAS Vegas odds are good that any future “victims” of violent Khader associated crimes will be those that asked for it. Maybe even LAS himself if we’re lucky enough.
LAS you’re way off on this one. Minors are tried in adult court all the time. In some juristictions, their sentences may be mitigated, but not always, so being a minor doesn’t qualify for special treatment for Khadr.
Secondly, he doesn’t fit the definition of a child soldier, which is intended for children under age 15 being pressed into a military.
Third, though we could cut some 15 year olds slack who were kidnapped, abused and pressed into military service, Khadr doesn’t qualify, IMO. He was indoctrinated from day one into his AQ life, right or wrong, and no doubt today believes in what he did, which if true makes him a clear and present danger to Canadian, and any civilized society.
Fourth, I know of no court decision that has overturned his conviction on any basis, let alone that he was coerced into a confession and subsequent plea bargain. Perhaps I’m wrong so please correct me on this if I’m in error.
Fifth, perhaps Khadr could be dealt with as a POW, but the Geneva Convention does not apply to him and anyway, the POWs go home when the war ends, which is when in this case? Anyway, he has pled guilty to being an illegal combatant, which makes this matter academic at best.
Reduction and omission are required to make any case this guy is in any way innocent and not entitled to his present predicament. Why should anyone care what happens to this scumbag in the first place? He is a political symbol for the left and more evidence of the left’s irrational and paradoxical political partishanship with Islamism.
