If Canadian opinion writers knew anything about Canadian diplomacy during the cold war, they wouldn’t write tripe like these articles.
Make no mistake, the Iranian embassy was a message to the only power in the region that really is a threat to the west. If you believe that PM Harper’s visit to Russia and closing the embassy in Iran are coincidences you need to read and think more.
Go-betweens and middle powers have no real skin in the game, but if you’re acting as a proxy and you’re called, you have to show you aren’t bluffing.
The left is up in arms, calling for soft-diplomacy and a return to Pearsonian diplomacy. The left doesn’t even know what that means. This is soft-diplomacy. Canada isn’t going to unilaterally declare war, no one with a brain thinks that.
But Canada as a message-boy and proxy for other powers is perfectly situated.

peterj, there was a big car bomb explosion in Kirkuk this morning, and 40 some people killed and over 200 hundred injured. These, mostly men I presume, were lined up applying for oil related jobs in that region of Iraq.
Ultimately history will be the judge, but in my opinion PM Harper is approaching statesman status. Sometimes we wish he would do more to roll back the penetration of Marxism in Canada, but he has to walk a fine line to satisfy the progressives, the social liberals, as well as the fiscal conservatives and the libertarian wings. It can’t be easy.

We both know that once the USA slams the till shut and leaves them to sort out their own problems, it will get ugly in a hurry. Sadam was a piece of work but he was the stability. He hated the kurds too, but he could have been bought off to leave them alone. The only reason there is still a semblance of uneasy peace is the billions the USA is still shoveling into that bottomless pit of a so called government. The Shia will not stop until both the Suuni and the Kurds are gone for good.
Next, we shut down the Saudi-sponsored mosques and Mohammedan charities, and confiscate their funds …
