To protect ethanol, Obama seeks to inflate meat prices
President Obama announced yet another government spending program — this time designed to inflate meat prices in Midwest swing states. “Today the Department of Agriculture announced that it will buy up to $100 million worth of pork products, $50 million worth of chicken, and $20 million worth of lamb and farm-raised catfish,” Obama explained to reporters in front of a drought-stricken cornfield.
“Prices are low, farmers and ranchers need help, so it makes sense,” Obama explained. “It makes sense for farmers who get to sell more of their product, and it makes sense for taxpayers who will save money because we’re getting food we would have bought anyway at a better price.”

Just another of those government “investments..”
The very fact that Obama came up with such a dumb campaign promise is proof, PROOF that he is feeling the heat of burning food.
Ethanol mandate – the sub prime of agriculture.
I sure hope no one in the U S of A gets curious and asks where the money comes from to buy all this meat.
Sadly, this is all just silly nonsense that probably will work in Obama’s favour.
A chicken in every pot?
Excuse me, is this article about the Liberal Party/Governing group? Their practice of seeking out special groups to buy off runs somewhere around $30,000,000.00 per Ontario Legislature seat. Cheers,
Perhaps we can suggest he set up a USA Wheat Board?

To recap, government is driving up the cost of food, animal feed and gasoline, and Obama’s solution is to drive up meat prices as well. Obama could eliminate the entire problem overnight and reduce carbon emissions were he to waive the ethanol mandate in a time of drought. Instead, he is creating a new spending program to mollify livestock producers…

I don’t know why she swallowed a fly,
Perhaps she’ll die…
There was an old woman who swallowed a spider,
That wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her,
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly,
I don’t know why she swallowed the fly,
Perhaps she’ll die…
I just can’t help but think that a drought should be pointing to higher food prices as opposed to lower food prices. A purely political ploy by Obama.
How about “Is there ANYTHING obama can’t do?” He already does enough nothing. I think we should appreciate obama doing nothing. Every time he does something or anything, we get wcrewed.
Next thing you know Obama will be trying to part the waters and wine out of water.
Every day that B. Hussien spends golfing, is another day that he isn’t dreaming nonsense like this into being.
… please, more golf. The man needs a rest.
We’ll know gubment is going to suspend the Ethanol Mandate just by watching if Harry Reid and Nancy Polosi short corn futures to screw over farmers.

God help me, I actually agree with something that comes from Lizzie May. I’d schedule myself for an MRI to check for a brain tumor but I’m certain there’s a lengthy wait.
Lifestock prices are sky high because of the cost of corn due to the drought in the US. The simplest fix would be to temporarily stop burning corn for gas by suspending the ethanol mandate.
The government buying up a product only increases demand for the resource inputs (corn) making the product even more expensive for consumers. It solves nothing and hurts the economy as a whole.
Gideon7, yeah it says all that in the linked article. Did you read it?
Have you got anything to add?
I swear the more I read of the news headlines these days the more I am convinced I am just a character in an Ayn Rand novel.
That is the great thing about government- always another tit to offer and a parasite willing to take it.
And as Obama inflates all the prices to “help out” various industries, his government will simultaneously be publishing “lower than expected inflation numbers.”
Favourite piece of pretzel logic:
“Prices are low, farmers and ranchers need help, so it makes sense,” Obama explained. “It makes sense for farmers who get to sell more of their product, and it makes sense for taxpayers who will save money because we’re getting food we would have bought anyway at a better price.”
Well, it makes sense to a 3rd grader, but not a reasonably clever one.
Makes sense to someone who needs to use taxpayer money to buy another election.
Is There Nothing That Obama Can’t Do?
Not since last January.
Let me get this straight,Obamas going to help farmers by buying meat before the prices go up.Would he not help them more if he waited till the price HAD gone up ?
Excellent article from AT regarding the unexpectedly unintended consequences of burning food

Phil! Phil! A ‘real’ farm subsidy issue, Phil!
Why hast thou forsaken us in our hour of need??

He, hee, heeeeeeeeeee…
Told you, Glengarrian.
Poor Phil…he gets his agriculture knowledge from Farmville.
Obama is no smarter than a sixth grader. The bright side is, this proves we are all qualified to be President of the USA.
Bailouter-in-Chief won’t be honouring those disaster relief promises in 2012…and the EPA won’t be cutting back on ethanol…somebody better find something to feed the cows in the meantime.
