TV Show: “You will be assimilated. Resistance is futile.”
Obamaland, 2012: “There is no such thing as a self-made man. Every businessman has used the vast American infrastructure, which the taxpayers paid for, to make his money. He did not make his money alone. He used taxpayer infrastructure. He got rich on what other taxpayers had paid for: the banking system, the Federal Reserve, the Treasury and Commerce Departments, and the judicial system, where nine-tenths of cases involve corporate law. These taxpayer investments support companies and wealthy investors. There are no self-made men! The wealthy have gotten rich using what previous taxpayers have paid for. They owe the taxpayers of this country a great deal and should be paying it back.”

Most businesses FAIL on the first couple go-rounds. Using Nobamalogic then, the taxpayers who are responsible for the successful businesses must be equally responsible for the failed businesses. I smell class-action lawsuit ….
I think it goes without saying that infrastructure contributes to the success of any business. Do the taxes these companies pay not contribute to the maintenance and building of more infrastructure? I’ve listened repeatedly to these speeches by the left, and they are not able to understand this simple concept.
So, why isn’t everyone rich? The same services are available to everyone.
Stop losing hope. There will be change come November.
The Obama campaign is now scrambling with its overreach.

A bait and switch here. That businesses rely on social infrastructure for their success no one questions. But how does this justify massive taxes to support a sprawling welfare state?
If someone shovels my driveway, I owe them a twenty, not a lifelong annuity.
Well that explains BamBam’s success.
Government Affirmative action got him into elite schools, got him the top job over other better qualified candidates at the Harvard Law Review and convinced the Loonies in Norway to award him the Nobel Peace Prize for things he hadn’t yet done.
With a life like that, no wonder he likes big government.
….. Obama didn’t write his speeches…Someone else did that for him.
….. Obama didn’t write a book…Someone else did that for him.
Obama is repeating propaganda that was first used in public by Elizabeth Warren … which was taken by HER from commie radical George Lakoff from Berkeley university.
Although it is probably a good idea to keep reminding people about this garbage from Obama you ought to … by now … have grasped the fact that the POTUS failed to even articulate the full context of that propaganda. Like a child he repeats what he has heard others say without fully comprehending any of the context and usually getting the words wrong as well.
IOW … he doesn’t even know or understand what he has been coached to say.
Obama = commie tool = useful idiot.
What needs to be done is to make it very clear what a complete disgrace that man is.
“There are no self-made men! The wealthy have gotten rich using what previous taxpayers have paid for.”
Bullsh*t,Barack!Pure and utter bovine manure! There are loads of self-made “rich” men and women out there, you just haven’t met them because you don’t travel in their circle.
You are used to hobnobbing with wealthy Democrats, most of whom DID inherit or marry their money, but in the real world, thousands and thousands made themselves rich the hard way.
I could introduce you to a dozen men who are millionaires due to hard work in logging and construction, and they did it without any help from government.
Bloody communist.
I’ll go further than what Obama said: There is no Free Will at all.
Free Will simply doesn’t exist. We human are physical machine that work entirely within the context of our environment. Our genes, our biology, the brain, all that work within the law of physics. Free Will (choice) simply doesn’t exist within the law of physics.
Jonathan Kay has a very good piece about that this week: http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/07/26/were-all-schitzophrenics-now-jonathan-kay-on-james-holmes-sam-harris-and-the-morally-terrifying-case-against-free-will/
1929 – Joseph Stalin:
{1} The characteristic feature in the work of our Party during the past year is that we, as a Party, as the Soviet power:
a) have developed an offensive along the whole front against the capitalist elements in the countryside;
b) that this offensive, as you know, has yielded and continues to yield very appreciable, positive results.
{2} What does this mean? It means that we have passed from the policy of restricting the exploiting tendencies of the kulaks to the policy of eliminating the kulaks as a class. It means that we have carried out, and are continuing to carry out, one of the decisive turns in our whole policy.
It has been done before by the same ilk that control Obama.
Unbelievable. Here we see the denial of the individual as having any causal activity in building, generating, inventing, thinking, testing, analyzing…The individual no longer exists and is embodied within the collective, an ant-person within the collective.
Obama and Elizabeth Warren both rejected individual effort and relied instead on their group identity- Warren as 1/34th or whatever Cherokee and Obama as ‘black’.
As for George Lakoff, he’s a postmodernist, a nominalist (focused around words) who insists that our interaction with the objective world is determined by the words and metaphors we use. To Lakoff, people live within, are embodied within, their language and cultural beliefs. This of course fits in with identity politics, class politics, ethnocentrism, etc.
Translate further that belief of ’embodied within a collective’ to the economic realm and we have the Obama-Warren-Lakoff and progressive socialist view that the individual as part of a collective must acknowledge this by submitting to government. I can only repeat Krauthammer who warned:
“To say all individuals are embedded in and the product of society is banal. Obama rises above banality by means of fallacy: equating society with government, the collectivity with the state. Of course we are shaped by our milieu. But the most formative, most important influence on the individual is not government. It is civil society, those elements of the collectivity that lie outside government: family, neighborhood, church, Rotary club, PTA, the voluntary associations that Tocqueville understood to be the genius of America and source of its energy and freedom.”
What these ’embodiment’ followers ignore is that the collective does not, is unable to, THINK. It cannot question, dissent, analyze, debate or even act. All that the collective is, is a set of normative habits of belief and behaviour. And we are not passive followers of these normative habits; we have the right and duty to debate them.
To conclude from this, as does Obama, Warren, Lakoff etc, that these normative habits DETERMINE the thoughts and actions of the individual betrays a deep ignorance of cognition. And history.
Throughout history all who hold to this determinist view that the individual is embodied within the collective, have had to use authoritarian force to maintain this in reality. Whether it be the totalitarian forces of communism or fascism, of cults, of Obama’s endless lawsuits against the various States of the USA – the individual is forcefully repressed.
If this disappearance of individual freedom and choice were natural, no force of repression would be needed.
And notice what the excerpt is missing; what is missing are the actions of the individual: invention, investment, and production. All this excerpt refers to is: money. But money is just a symbol – of invention, investment and production. Yet not a word is said of these individual activities.
@ Quebecois NDP
There is no Free Will at all.
So the criminals behind bars (rapists, murderers) should be allowed to go free?
Do these numb-skulls ever stop to ask the question “But where did the government get its money to build ?”. What bugs me is the complete backwardness of their logic.
Quick thought experiment for all left wingers out there: if the private sector simply stopped working tomorrow where would you do-gooders get your money? And no we don’t accept ‘print it’ as an answer (if we need to explain why you’re too stupid to understand)
quebecois – kindly provide some evidence that Free Will, in the form of either chance or individualism, does not exist.
Are you declaring that your rejection of Catholicism and choice of atheism was not an act of free will but was instead, ah, predetermined? By some Higher Power?
Are you aware that there is a deep difference between the potential and the actual, and that the latter does not mirror the former? No?
In a free market society, the state gets its money from only one source … profitable businesses and their employees.
Is it any wonder Marxist thought would like the eventuality of controlling all means of production and aims to destroy the merchant class?
Quebecois NDP: If there is no free will, how can Quebec ever gain independence? Right now, Quebec is totally dependent of the free will of the ROC sending money your way.
The ROC also has the free will of cutting you off. I just wish the politicians would put that plan into action.
from blogger “red steel”
“Funny how all the information on James Holmes was so available in less than a day, but no information on the person named Obama after 4 + years.”
Media Today: “Wait, Romney expressed some concern over the Olympic preparations (something he has some experience with) in London! That’s an unforgivable gaffe! Stop paying attention to Obama’s radicalism! Look over heeeeeere! What a total MAROON! You don’t want a maroon as president, do you?”
To someone whom has never created anything of value in their lives, the presence of those who do so can be a constant reminder of their own relative uselessness.
So, to soothe their feelings of inferiority, the only defence mechanism The Truly Useless really have is to launch an attack on The Really Useful.
Trudeau used the same tactics with our military. They were a constant reminder of his own failure to confront the evils of Nazism – so he attacked them at very opportunity.
There is an excellent Wall Street Journal article explaining this in better detail.
Google: Four Little Words by Kimberley A. Strassel
This could be a game winner if the Republicans stick with it.

That would be the same article that was drawn attention to two hours ago, fifth post from the top.

Obama didn’t fail by himself; he had help — from other democrats! Obama’s Administration didn’t fail by itself, it had help from socialist ideology.
I could go on, but you get the idea…
quebecois – kindly provide some evidence that Free Will, in the form of either chance or individualism, does not exist.
=====
The laws of physics cannot explain Free Will. The burden of the proof is on your side. Show me some evidence that Free Will exist? You can’t
We human have Free Will in the same sense that a computer playing chess has Free Will. The computer can chose to move a piece here or there. But this is because he was programmed to do so, that’s all.
We human are biological computer programmed by millions of years of Darwin evolution. We are constrained by ours genes, environment, biology. The brain is a biological computer.
Obama, America – you didn’t build that, the people did.

Yes,indeed. It would be similar to telling Pabst that if he didn’t increase poverty there would not be such a huge market for Colt 45.
Obama doesn’t understand the risk involved in running a business. For him, everything has a safety net.
Obama doesn’t understand the risk involved in running a business. For him, everything has a safety net. He’s the “training wheels” president.
dipperboy said: “The laws of physics cannot explain Free Will.”
Oh, groan. The laws of physics can’t explain the electron either, just observe it being there, unexplainable.
I realize that this is what you believe too. Its what makes you so willing to run other people’s lives for them. There is no free will, there is only mechanism and calculation, blah blah blah.
How about consciousness? Does that exist or is it just an illusion created by robotic stimulus-response? Creativity? Nobody ever thought up a new thing? Einstein was a fancy algorithm running on a kosher meat-CPU?
You’re a doctrinaire socialist, you’ve never had an original thought in your life, or indeed any thoughts at all that weren’t force fed to you through a university course. Maybe if you pulled your head out of your nether regions for ONE SECOND you’d learn something interesting.
Like that this whole Skinnerian pile of crap was busted thirty years ago. Get out there and read something, you lazy POS.
Quebecois gives a prime example of reason without faith and that viewpoint inevitably leads to the consquences of its extreme followers.
Darwinism led to the politicization of ‘survival of the fittest’ in the 20th century, where those who declared themselves fittest believed they were justified in eliminating those who they declared unfit or as unevolved as they were.
The demonstrated result was the death toll of nearly 100 million innocent human beings.
Now that’s real progress, correct QNS? Got rid of the unfit by perfecting society and that’s a good thing, isn’t it?
What is your final solution, Quebecois?
My father actually met Skinner’s daughter on a number of occasions. Apparently she was quite… weird.
As for this Obama chap, well, quite honestly I’m beginning to get a bad feeling about him.
BM,B.F. Skinner?
Never mind.
Oh and by the way. The proper answer to to “Resistance is futile” has always been “Fire photon torpedoes!”
Death before slavery. Always.
I think it paramount and more important that an American President proves he actually is an American at heart than prove he was born there and have no affitity for American values.
That imposter in the White House is NOT an American.
Don’t reply to the Queerbec troll, people. Then let it see if the laws of physics can explain to him why we don’t,seeing as it isn’t free will.Must be that we find him a leech on society?
BTW,it believes in cAGW also, which defies all known laws of physics, especially the 2nd of thermodynamics, soooooo.
To the Zero’s way of thinking,HE is the gubermint, and he certainly did not achieve that on his own,so maybe it is reasonable to think he actually believes the same one’s in charge of him,are in charge of everything?
OMMAG @ 3:31, that was the attempt at making the New Soviet Man. It did not work then and contrary to the present hopes by some, it will not work this time.
syf, “What is your final solution, Quebecois?” I expect it is the same as Stalin and Hitler’s.
Free will wants and works for freedom, not slavery.
“You didn’t build that” also has a corresponding argument attached to it which lays the entirety of the current economic malaise on Obama’s lap does it not? If businesses can’t succeed without government help than Obama is doing a terrible job even by their own standards.
From the comments at the link worth repeating here.
“He didn’t invent iron ore and blast furnaces, did he?”
“Who?”
“Rearden. He didn’t invent smelting and chemistry and air compression. He couldn’t have invented his Metal but for thousands and thousands of other people. His Metal! Why does he think it’s his? Why does he think it’s his invention? Everybody uses the work of everybody else. Nobody ever invents anything.”
She said, puzzled, “But the iron ore and all those other things were there all the time. Why didn’t anybody else make that Metal, but Mr. Rearden did?”

No corporations, no entrepreneurs and no small business, equals no bloody first world country!
“There is no such thing as a self-made man…..” – Obamba
I guess not coming from an Affirmative Action Marxist loser who has had his whole life handed to him on a silver platter because of the color of his skin, and not the content of his character.
The guy who invented the Borg for the show Must have been from San Francisco
quebecois – you haven’t replied to my question of your ‘choosing’ atheism. Are you saying it was predetermined and you, a hapless piece of matter, had no free choice?
And it’s up to you to provide evidence that there is no free will; it’s your assertion. Not mine.
You know zilch about physics or biology for that matter. A human being is not an atom nor even a collection of atoms. Ever heard of complex adaptive systems? They aren’t reducible to ‘bits’. A complex system is not equivalent to a mechanical system; you, in your ignorance, equate the two. Unbelievable.
Darwinian evolution doesn’t produce automons because that would reduce adaptive capacities in the world. Evolution produces more complex entities that are capable of analytic thought (do you know what ‘analytic thought’ means?). No robotic or mechanical system can do that.
Think. Don’t just react like a machine.
QuebeciosNDP…theBORG…hhhmmm…
In human society government is at the top of the economic food chain – not the bottom as the author implies.
Without people and without business there is no government. Not the other way around. Thus those who favour a large and larger government have to justify that to the governments benefactors – citizens and business. Clearly the authors to e is quite the opposite – that the gratitude should flow from business to govt. he posits an enormously ignorant argument.

I wonder why it stopped? You’re still quoting Aristotle from 2300 years ago.
In Obama’s simplistic and naive child-like view of the world, he just expresses how he understands the world to be. People give you things, that how you come to have them. That’s all he knows. He’s been a puppet for somebody else his entire life, never having actually done anything for himself. He’s an artificial construct from the day he was born. Without that which has been given to him, he’d be less than a nobody. He can’t identify as a self-made man, be cause he’s been constructed entirely by the hands of others. A virtual cyborg.
Obama…You didn’t build you…
Gee folks you have let the troll turn this from a thread on Progressive collectivism into a debate on free will with Religion.
Thats what trolls do. Redirect debate onto the the irrelevant.
But revnant dream – progressive collectivism, by its nature, rejects free will. It rejects the capacity of the individual to think, to reason, to dissent, to create.
