“I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not in the hands of criminals; that they belong on the battlefield of war”
Freudian slip, anyone?
Maybe Bam-Bam was saying that only Russian soldiers, or soldiers whose governments buy Russian arms, should have guns.
Maybe he’s going to extend his gun control initiative to the US armed forces…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIv_RrgCfWs
preferred weapon of the enemy- Gunny Highway
Did he say ‘in the hands of soldiers’ (a general statement) or ‘in the hands of OUR soldiers’ (a specific statement?
Either way he’s wrong. Why is Obama afraid of an armed population? What’s his hidden agenda that he needs people disarmed?
Couldn’t agree more.
He should then be asked why his administration conspired to place AK-47s in the hands of Mexican druglords to kill civilians and US border guards.
It is always hilarious to listen to the loonies who think a prohibition and war on drugs is a stupid idea that just makes criminal rich spout off that a prohibition and war on guns would be successful.
We don’t even ban handguns in Canada, we just make so ridiculously bureaucratic to acquire one that there is a booming business in making hand guns easily available at an inflated price.
Call it the Kinsella Conundrum.
Ak-47 – the single most widely manufactured firearm of the 20th century. The Russkies gave them to everybody who would mouth the right platitudes, as did the Chinese.
Africa? Any “child soldiers” toting AK’s?
Colorado? Not so much.
A ‘lot’ of gun owners.
20?
21?
Well that’s a ‘lot’!
I mean, you even get the odd Liberal dickhead gun owner (or at least he says he’s a gun owner)on some Canadian hunting or firearms forums saying stupid things like, “far as I’m concerned, no one needs a handgun.” And if you added all these pathetic turds up it would be a ‘lot’…but probably less than 1% of gun owners.
What an idiot, everybody knows the AK47 belongs in the hands of our “Corpse Men”
It is okay to arm Al-Qaeda rebels in Syria with A-K’s to slaughter civilians though isn’t it Mr. Prez. Or even Mexcican drug lords for that matter.
Wasn’t an AK-47 that was used in the Aurora massacre. That is like saying Cadillac Escalates are used in drive by shootings, not that Mayor Ford has to explain why he has one.
2ND Amendment
A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.
The right of the people, not soldiers…*PEOPLE*, to keep and bear arms, not hunting tools…*ARMS* just like Armies use, shall not be infringed.
In a legal context, an infringement refers to the violation of a law or a right.
And they say Obama is a Constitutional scholar, but here he is urging legislative violation of the LAW of the land protecting a RIGHT of the people.
Let me guess the Obama-Nation(tm) is going to import the AK47s from buddy Vladimir Putin…

At least it won’t be one of those cheap Chinese knock-offs.
I’m sure the American arms industry will be delighted the the Commander in Chief of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA will be buying RUSSIAN supplies.
Hey maybe the Germans can sell their Leopard 2 tanks to the US as well. They can then have an invasion worthy of the name “D-Day”. Hollywood could make a new movie version of “Enemy at the White House Gates”.
The LSM will dub it “Panzer-gate”.
Thanks for the laughs, I’m off to swim with the fishes for a while…
Cheers
Hans Rupprecht, Commander in Chief
1st Saint Nicolaas Army
Army Group “True North”
What do Kenyan troops carry?
Texas_Canuck, the reports I’ve heard about the Aurora murders was an AR-15 was used. It resembles the American M-16 or the Canadian version C-7. A little trivia for you, the M-16 was invented by a Canadian who tried to sell it to the Canadian Gov’t but was turned down. Received the right to sell it elsewhere and the Americans bought the design in a heartbeat. Then seeing it in use, the Canadian Gov’t purchased the firearms from the Americans with the modification of a spent round deflector and called it a C-7. We could have been MAKING these firearms and SELLING them instead of BUYING them.
I hate to get technical and spoil all the presidents humor but they aren’t AK-47’s. They are a civilian version not capable of Automatic fire. They are the same gun in Canader. And they are only good up close because they are not really that accurate; not like an M-16.
I don’t think the Russians are making the AK 47 anymore, and isn’t the US military using the M4 now?
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2012/07/25/colorado-guns-canada.html
If SDA’ers can get over the shock and horror, the same guns as used in the Colorado Incident are legally available in CANADA!
I doubt President Obambam, who was a fighter pilot in the same National Guard squadron as George W. Bush, unless I’m mistaken, could tell an AK-47 from a Henry repeater.
The remark was indicative of where his thoughts stray, to commie-land,always. Next he’ll threaten to “send a squadron of MIGS to Syria.
Eugene Stoner(the designer of the AR-10/AR-15/M-16 for the ArmaLite Corporation subdivision of the Fairchild Engine and Airplane Corporation) attended high school in Long Beach and afterwards worked for the Vega Aircraft Company installing armament. During World War II, he enlisted for Aviation Ordnance in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in the South Pacific and northern China.
Other inventor who collaborated with Eugene Stoner at ArmaLite on the AR-15, L. James Sullivan, also an American.
Bah … all you gun experts out there who want to quibble about what an AK47 is ….. Cheap AK knockoffs are showing up all over the place and have been for the last decade. Gang bangin bros from the hood in every US urban shithole love them. Prices as low as $200 for these weapons mean that gangstas can get as many as 5 or 6 for the price of a more stylish or sophisticated weapon.
Why is Obama talking about AKs? Because that’s what he’s heard the the idiots in his social circles talk about. Who prepares Obama’s material?
Whether this is just another case of him going off the prompter …. or failing to actually read what is in front of him … or if this is actually what the handlers prepped him to say … there are two real problems… his utter ignorance and the true intent behind the words.
To my ears this just another case of some clown repeating the words of activist propagandists from the left.
Big problem for all of us is that close to half of the US voters are either too stupid to realize what is going on or actually believe this shit.
Thanks for the correction Oz, when I carried a C-7 (many years and fewer pounds ago) we were told it was one of our own that invented it.
Moosemilk, you are sort of right, but not quite. The M16 was designed by Eugene Stoner, who was an American. The M1 Garand, however, which was used by the US through WW11 and Korea, and then morphed into the M14 and the mini 14, and M1A was designed by John Garand who was born Canadian. He was however, educated in the US and did all his work in the US.
As oz says, the purpose of the 2nd amendment is to allow the arming of a militia. They should be armed with the best military quality firearms they can by.
In our past, the unincorporated militia was expected to muster periodically and provide their own military quality weapons. Now, governments don’t even trust us with hunting rifles.
Moosemilk.. C7 or M16 was designed by Stoner. Garand M1 was designed by a Canadian born John Garand AK47 is a rip-off of Hugo Shmeisser’s G44. Kalishnikov invented nothing.
(by the way, OZ is a loon)
Witch friken one is it guys?
Was or was he not a Canadian who invented the m16 ?
Well, I may as well throw in my less than two cents worth….
Russian Federation forces (with the exeception of the highly specialized Spetsnaz units) have been issued the AK74, not the AK47, since, well, 1974.
The former fires a 5.45 X 39 MM round, a small but nasty little vixen that produces a more devastating wound channel than the 5.56 X 45 MM round as used by our forces’ M16/M4s.
Cheap knockoffs of the AK47 abound but I believe the Russians still manufacture them, principally to sell to Third World insurgents whose underlying combat philosophy is “spray and pray.”
BTW, the C-7 is (was) made in Kitchener. Both Denmark and the Netherlands buy them from us. Demianco (SP), now Colt Canada took the M-16A2 and improved it. I once put 22 magazines through one in about 2 min; smoke was pouring out of it; Not one stoppage. Very impressive. Obama is an idiot. There should be some sort of service pre-requsite for the nations highest office. ( but then, look at Paul Hellyer )
AR15/M16/M4/C7 vastly same parts – different doo-dads – same toy
AK47/AK74 Same toy different round
Back when I played there were those who thought a FNFAL and a C2 were somehow different – not.
Every household in Afghanistan is allowed to keep one AK47, for personal defense. I’m assuming that means the full auto version. I wonder if the commander in chief was aware of that?
Maybe he can explain then, why him and Eric With-Holder sent a couple of dump truck loads of them down to Mexico to arm the drug cartels…
The former fires a 5.45 X 39 MM round, a small but nasty little vixen that produces a more devastating wound channel MG42
The more devastating wound channel is the result of the Soviets/Russians loading the cartridge with a hollow-tipped bullet, which shifts the COG of the round and increases its propensity to tumble after striking flesh, over a non-hollow round.
The problem is that the Soviets signed a treaty which promised not to use hollow-tipped rounds, because of their devastating target effect. Old Soviet MO, sign treaties you know your adversary will honor, and which you intend to flout to gain advantage.
So Obama agrees that arming Mexican criminals with AK’s was terribly wrong.
So when will he request a Federal judge appoint a special independent prosecutor to investigate Eric Holder’s AK-47 gun-running operation to Mexico?
I’m not holding my breath.
Bet the Syrian people wished they had a few personal firearms at the moment.
As “grok” and others have said – What is he afraid of? American civilians elected him and pay his bills.
Most American’s are good enough to get up every morning and earn trillions of dollars in tax money for Obamba to blow on the losers and murderers of American society, but the American backbone can’t be trusted to own a firearm?
Seems like a bit of a Master/ Slave complex to me.
Great comment by “Oz” @ 5:26pm.
Small c conservative: The Hague Convention on Expanding Bullets was signed in 1899. The Soviet Union did not exist. http://www.icrc.org/eng/assets/files/other/irrc_849_coupland_et_loye.pdf
BDFT – Russia did; they initiated the concept of banning explosive and expanding small arms rounds in the St. Petersburg Declaration of 1868.
If the entire world agreed to ban them, shouldn’t the Soviets, as well?
If the Soviets refused to honor something as inocuous as this treaty, it says something about the brutality of that criminal regime.
The US took this so seriously, that even US snipers used strictly solid projectiles until 1985, when the Advocate General of the Armed Forces issued an opinion that terrorists, as illegal combatants, were not afforded the same protection as uniformed soldiers of national armies.
Scar
C2 had the “happy switch.”
…when it ran. 😉
A few points on these comments, in juxtaposition with those those of Mitt Romney on the London Olympics:
1. Mr. Romney’s comments strike me as well-informed and somewhat sympathetic, given that he’s involved in a presidential election campaign in another country at the moment (he commented on the threatened transit strike and the near-run failure of the security situation — which the British media have let everybody know about in spades over the past few weeks. He made nothing more than the reasonable point, as I took it, that an undertaking the size of the Olympic Games carries with it a degree of uncertainty in execution. As an aside, there is no greater supporter of the UK than me, but sometimes even I have to shake my head at the degree to which real life emulates British comedy.
2. Mr. Obama’s comments strike me as typically superficial and ill-informed: apart from the comments above, battlefields are pretty generally associated with war, so I don’t understand the redundancy, but maybe this is just an oratorical flourish from the best-est orator ever… And why is that the left’s Pavlovian response to gun violence is to call for a ban on this or that type of weapon? (My sister likes to remind me whenever this comes out of the mouth of a central Canadian liberal, “Don’t you remember the signs at the border in Sarnia and Windsor: ‘Hand guns are illegal in Canada’?”) Besides which, where’s the political judgement in opening the can of worms about the effectiveness of these weapons bans on criminal behaviour? Obama’s comments are also yet again divisively opportunistic (coming on the heals of Aurora, I’d say he never really seems to miss an opportunity to make things worse — “hey, here’s a bad situation; let’s see if we can take political advantage of it!”; I don’t think he can help himself, actually).
3. Of course, Mr. Obama will not have to worry about issuing a “clarification”, retraction or apology — the only place you’re likely to see his comments reported are at sites like SDA. On the other hand, it was pretty hard to miss Mr. Romney’s alleged “gaffe” (earplugs and blindfolds would have been required).
4. Pierre Bourque asks, “Who invited Mitt Romney to Olympic London?”, as if he had no business being there in the first place: so, it’s okay for Mr. and Mrs. Obama go to Europe for fundraising purposes (virtually unreported), but it’s not okay for Mr. Romney to do the same?
Mitt Romney was the head of the Salt Lake City committee for the Winter Olympics in 2002. The years 1999-2002 are when he was on leave from his position as CEO of Bain Capital.
mauser98, I have read, I think it was at forgottenweapons, that Hugo Schmeisser was captured by the Russians in 1945. He and other German designers were transported to Russia and put to work adapting the Stg44 for Russian manufacturing techniques, creating what eventually became the AK-47. The Russians would never give their German slaves any credit of course, that went to Kalashnikov.
Bear in mind that since ’09 this administration has purchased 750,000,000 (750 million) rounds of ammo. Almost all in .40 caliber, almost all hollow point.
Non-NATO, non-military. For use against the civilian population. AND for those interested in new toys…. they had these made too… .40 cal.

Hello to all, how is the whole thing, I think
every one is getting more from this site, and your
views are pleasant designed for new viewers.
Weapons in the hands of soldiers probably would have been helpful on Fort Hood in November 2009.
The strictest gun laws in America are on military bases. Q.E.D.
And someone please tell me…Why is Major Nidal Hasan still breathing my air?
I was in the JAG Corps for four years, and I don’t recall murder trials taking this long, especially when the evidence is so irrefutable.
We need some Giuseppe Zangara justice.

Message to Mikhail Kalashnikov: You didn’t invent the AK-47, someone else made that happen.
As the first commenter said; Freudian slip.
and one that says a lot about Obama…
He has done a few of those “freudian slips ” , Did he not once say he was a muslim and that stephanopoulos guy at ABC had to “correct” him?
How many people do you know/have you known ( friends, family, co-workers, neighbours etc…) – who are not Muslims; hundreds or thousands right?
and how many of those say they are Muslim ” by mistake” ?
Yeah zero is the answer for me too.
The more we get to know Obama the less we can trust him
I doubt President Obambam, was a fighter pilot in the same National Guard squadron as George W. Bush. I find this more dubious than his birth certificate. please reference your source dmorris.
